Jon & Kate Plus 8

Hi all

I wanted to start a thread about the new season of Jon & Kate Plus 8.

Very interesting show...especially for people who are interested in psychology and social work with a focus on marriage and family such as myself.
I've watched it in the past and now with all this tabloid attention, I'm even more drawn to it now, although I almost don't even want to watch anymore and here is why...

I am a very positive person, but I watched the season premier tonight and I couldn't help but think 'Wow, this is just sad'.
The parents almost can't even be in the same room, much less communicate properly, because there is just so much tension.
And for the kids - wow.
It's incredibly difficult to have parents who don't get along, but it reaches a whole other level of difficult when they're basically ignoring each other.
The kids seem oblivious for now though (or at least that's what they show after editing)
Then Kate starts crying in an interview - oy.

Sure they have happy and fun moments with the kids, but the tense moments out shine the happy ones.

If it's going to be tense and sad the whole season, I can't bare to watch.

What are other viewers thoughts?

Sorry i cant agree. they are nothing more than attention Wh@$%S
Waaaah the paparazzi are following me.I cant be me ,everybody knows me!!!!
I don't feel the least bit sorry for them. They put themselves in this position by accepting money and being on T.V.
I cant help but think she had the entire thing planned out. Yes including getting pregnant with so many kids in order to get a T.V. show.
If they really don't like all of the attention give back all the money cancel the show and forget about the public speaking and the book tours and go back to being just another family down the street.

It's funny how a scandal happens just before a season premiere, I was reading a magazine @ work on the cover was Jon Kate rumor, open the magazine up and an ad for the new season was in the middle. Just a way to create buzz about the show.

This whole situation is so sad.

I watched the episode where they renewed their vows last night. My heart broke when Kate told one of the kids that they were doing this because mommy and daddy love each other and will be together forever. Gah. It's so sad and I feel so bad for the kiddos.

Kate has changed. The way she dresses is different and she just doesn't seem the same. I'm thinkin' all this "celebrity" stuff has gone to her head. Jon complained about missing his twenties. Well, you were the one who got married so early and decided to have kids at 22. Sorry bud, you made those decisions, it's your fault.

I totally agree with the OP, however I also agree with everyone else...it seems like a really complicated situation.

I think that a large amount of their lives is orchestrated, but unless they are great actors the pain that they each showed seemed very real to me.

It just seems like an awful and horribly sad thing that is happening to their family.

That is a good point some posters make about the paparazzi and promoting the show what not.

But no matter what the paparazzi have done, their life style, the show, etc...despite all of that, they are still a family and something is very wrong with it which is sad.

Now if it were my family, I might think twice about airing our clean and dirty laundry on TV but that's just me.

They must feel differently I guess  They do get some nice perks after all...

I don't feel sorry for Jon or Kate they made the decision to sell their family to the highest bidder and continue to do so. I don't believe for one second that they don't want or like all of the press they are getting. Lets face it if the publicity goes away so does their T.V. show, book deals, speaking engagements, etc. And all the money that goes along with it. They cant afford their house, trips, food and other living expenses on a salary of an I.T. guy.

The ones i really feel sorry for are the kids. They are made to dance for the cameras. I can see it now "Mommy and Daddy want to make more money so you kids better act cute so the public and network still want us."
I have NO respect for either one of them i think they are using their kids for their own selfish greed!

Hi

Hi there, I watched myself last night and my sorrow goes out to Jon. Although I am unsure if this is just for ratings or what? I don't think I will be watching much longer if it means watching this family fall apart. Money ruins people and changes people. Kate was already a know it all. She treated her husband with so much disrespect I would love to see how she would feel if that was done to her by him. I think she needs a wake up call if you ask me. Her daughter Maddy is going down the same rode as her mother. It was very sad to watch Jon being interviewed knowing in my heart he didn't even want to be there.
Marriage is a give and take but I think Kate it the one taking taking taking. She was mean to her sister in law as well and brought her to tears. I hope Kate has many nights by herself crying and feeling what she has done to others. I am sorry if I seem mean, but from what I see from the actions and words used by her, Jon has be beat up enough.
Kate needs to realize money is not everything, love and honesty, respect are the most important in a marriage. Funny thing is she is so Catholic with her little bible notes etc she leaves around. Maybe she should re read that book she loves wrote notations around her house with.

I agree that the entire situation is just sad.
But, when you put yourself in the limelight, you have to be willing to air the good & the bad.
I believe that Jon & Kate began w/ good intentions w/ their focus on the kids.
But, it is clear that Kate has become all about the $ & her self gain.
She always says that everything is about the kids, but it seems that everything is about Kate.
She treats Jon like one of the kids most of the time.
His opinion rarely seems to matter.
The show has shifted to having Kate in the spotlight even more than the kids.
I saw the show last night & I felt more sorry for Jon & the kids than I did Kate.
I am usually a softie when it comes to someone crying, but I didn't feel that Kate's sadness was authentic.
I believe that she was sad that the show would never be the same, but not her marriage.
I wish the best for the kids & I hope that Jon can find some peace in his life.

I agree that the situation is sad and yes they did put themselves out in the public by being on T.V. but, they are also entitled to a little bit of privacy. The paparazzi hiding in the bushes to get pics of the kids birthday party is ridiculous and stalking these people in their own home (Jon even said the paparazzi is parked outside his house 24/7) is insane. If the paparazzi doesn't care about the parents then they should at least respect the kids privacy, celebrities or not everyone needs and deserves privacy! I think that Jon and Kate thought the show would be a good way to document their kids lives while helping the family finances, but I don't think they really knew what they were getting themselves into. It bascially spiraled out of control. The end of the show had such an akward moment when they were asked about their future, Kate said "I'm here" (meaning it was up to him to decide) and I think he did by saying "I'm here for my kids".

The show gives me a headache. I've tried watching it several times, and always have to cut it off because it stresses me out.

I feel sorry for the kids. Jon and Kate are both screwed up, in my opinion. Especially Kate.

If Kate thought that it would improve ratings and put more money in her pocket im sure she would talk him into it. Or better yet make it look as if he killed himself.

I remember at the end of last season when Jon wanted to get a normal life back and did not want to do another season, Kate did. It looks like Kate talked him into it and now he is miserable. What good does it do to have the world but loose your soul? Kate is trading her husband and the family they could all be, for fame and money. Truly a sad, sad thing.

I have only so much sympathy for them. They made the decisions they made and now is not the time to be saying "poor me". Kate seems like a control freak, which I guess is needed when running a household like theirs, but I think she forgot along the way that Jon is an adult and not another child to be managed. If their marriage is is shambles the fault lies on them both. When Kate started acting this way, Jon should have pushed back and demanded to be treated like an adult instead of just putting his head down and taking it. If they want to save their marriage, they need to stop the show, but that would mean giving up the money...

Kate does seem to rip him a new one in every show for something. My life is the same way just not being filmed for all the world and minus seven kids, i think. :lookaroun

When I was at the world last week...

There was an ENORMOUS about of women with the "KATE HAIRCUT". Mainly seen at the Magic Kingdom. In Fantasyland, I felt like I was in "Jon and Kate Land"
