I photograph preschool kids and its just amazing how many kids dont know the fab 5 like older generations do.. kids today only recognize mickey and the gand from mickey mouse clubhouse.. am I the only one who thinks disney should do more to make those characters relevant again, besides some cheap cg playhouse disney show?.. I actually have a friend who has a baby thats 3 years old and shes never had a mickey plush.. what kind of kid wouldnt have a mickey plush.. isnt that like the first toy someone gets in their life? lol... any thoughts?

I totally agree. I wish Disney would make more of an effort to return to the classics. And I don't mean this computer generated crap either. Compare the classic 1930s and 1940s era shorts to this modern Mickey's Clubhouse crap and you can see a world of difference in the animation.

So the first step they need to take is to make WDW more focused on the classic 5 and less focused on crap like the Incredibles, Monsters INC, etc. And the second step is to make the classic 5 more like the old school classic 5 and not the modern day Mickey's Clubhouse stuff.

Perhaps the Disney Channel should consider bringing back the 'Silly Symphonies' that were so prevalent during the channel's inception!

Personally, I'd prefer the regular shorts, but at least the silly symphonies would be a start. Myself, I don't like those cartoons that are all singing and music all the way through. But at this point, I would settle for that...at least it would be something classic and not this crap that they make nowdays.

I totally agree that they should bring back the Mickey Mouse club!!

The only kid I'm ever around is my 4 year old nephew, and he knows Disney better than any kid because I shove it in his face. He currently thinks that the castle is my second home. I will be sad when he grows up & calls me a liar. :)

lol well your beautiful enough to look like one of the princesses that live in the castle so thats where he might get that from lol...

I just wish they did more with them, I remember growing up watching the disney channel back when they didnt even have commercial breaks, and how in between shows they would show the old cartoons...

the simplest most effective way for disney to utilize these characters more, in a modern way, is to create cg shorts, not the crappy cg mickey mouse clubhouse has but the beautiful cg pixar is able to create...

it can be the simplest and most effective way to help mickey and gang step into the 21st century and be relevant, make the shorts just like they used to only in cg and play them on the disney channel the way they used to.. disney wake up!

Yeah because the target audience of Mickey mouse Clubhouse really cares about the the animation quality. I think it's fine. That's our 4 yr old's favorite show. We record them during the week and then on Saturday mornings we all get in bed and watch a few together. He knows these characters better than any other character.

I didnt say kids cared about the quality, kids will be fine with just some entertaining colors, but what about all the rest of the grown up disney fans?, we grew up with disney having the highest quality in all their animation endeavors, its almost just excpected they can make the cg character look amazing, I mean they do own pixar now.. mickey mouse clubhouse just looks like low budget cg to me, all I was saying is that in the quality of the animation alone, disney can make a world of a difference

I absolutely hate seeing Mickey and the gang in CG. I plan on taking my niece and nephew to WDW some day, but before I do, I plan on making them watch all of the good old hand drawn movies that they have yet to see. They dont really know any of the classic movies and I want to make it relevant to them before I take them on rides and see puzzled looks on their faces. I personally believe that all cartoons on TV now are crap Disney or not, I want to get all the good cartoons from my childhood on DVD, so when I have kids they can watch good quality cartoons.

I agree.
And I also believe that kids should be exposed to WDW! (Or your local Disney park :))
I was exposed at a very young age and that sparked my interest in the fab 5 and all other characters and attractions.

A return to classic Mickey cartoons would be awesome. Mickey Mouse Clubhouse is okay, but there is one thing about it that is pretty creepy. Have you ever noticed how when Mickey turns his head, his ears always remain facing forward. Minnie too. It's like the head swivels but the ears don't move. :lookaroun

Well, sorry but my two year old, woke me up this morning ( at 5:30) saying, "time to watch Mickey clubhouse Mommy" (thank God for a DVR). I would say with the younger set love for the fab 5 is alive and well. You have to remember Disney has to reach each generation with the media that is relevant to them. For my kids Mickey Mouse Clubhouse does the trick. Now, I do get them videos from our library with all the old cartoons and they love those too, but MMCH is a daily staple in our house.

My two daughters (5 and 22 months) both love the fab 5. Alot of it does have to do with "Mickey Mouse Clubhouse" on the disney channel, but almost everything new they see is computer generated. When we were at WDW last year we spent time in the baby care center. They were often showing old Mickey cartoons. My five year old feel in love with them. We ended up buying a DVD while still on vacation and now they both just love the older shows. All that being said, and I am a Disney nut, I hate it. I much prefer the Mickey Mouse Clubhouse on the Disney channel. I love the music and it is educational. There is too much violence with the older cartoons. I still let them watch them, but try and limit it. Oh and they both have a Mickey Plus and Pooh plus.

I agree with the classics being replayed and shown more frequently. We are going in two weeks and our baby is due in August. The nursery is classic Pooh and we have so many ideas for classic animals and gifts we want for our baby. Our child will know the classic five and much more!!!

With the politically correct climate of our day, I regret to say that we'll probably never see those shorts on TV again...not unless they're gonna play those silly Leonard Maltin spiels in front of them like they do on the Disney Treasures DVDs...you know...those little intros where he talks about how enlightened we are today compared to the knuckle dragging unenlightened cavemen that were the original audience of those shorts way back when.:brick:
