Tomorrow Land Indy Speedway: What's the Deal?

Okay, the subject at hand is Tomorrow Land Indy Speedway. My question is this: What's the draw?
The cars are loud, slow, and smelly. You can't really race. You can't play bumper cars.
Why is this attraction popular? It even has Fast Passes.
I know it's a classic, but it just seems like a bad experience to me.
I don't mean to sound like a Negative Nathan, but someone please explain this to me.

The only draw, and it's a small one, is that little kids supposedly love it. The get to "drive" like grown ups.
In reality, the ride is a huge waste of space. It offers nothing that can't be found at numerous Six-Flags and local amusement parks around the country, and should be bulldozed to make way for one or two new attractions.

Ya know, we were there in November. I hadn't been on those for years and years. It was late during extra magic hours, the line was short, so the family said "why not"?

I'll say that it was one of the fun memories. Something fun and magical about poking around in these little cars outdoors in the Magic Kingdom at night. It was silly, charming fun.

Maybe it was the time, maybe the place, I don't know. Maybe just Disney magic pixie dust clouding objective assessment. But we had a great time and it has stuck with me.

But, yes, the cars smell. And you can factor in the fact that there was no wait as well.

That's my 2c, anyway.

Yeah, exactly it's all about the kids... they feel like adults driving the 6 mph cars (i think it's 6). I went on it for the first time when I was 20 and even though I wasn't a kid, it's fun as a one time deal. Now we skip it when we go to MK.

Yeah, my little brother loved it. I for one enjoyed it for what it was the one time I rode it but have no real interest in riding it again. Are they going to replace the gas engines with the electric cars like in Hong Kong?

It's a must do for our family. The girls love this attraction. Plus the 6 flags near us took out the cars ride. So MK is the only theme park we go to that still offers this type of attraction.

Much fun when you've got a friend in each lane going to slowest speed possible (no breaking!) much to the chagrin to the twenty cars behind you.

I feel that it is a terrible waste of some very valuable property. Just imagine the possibilities of what could be put there.

Keep the "children get to drive cars" structure, but new theme, cars, etc. Shorten the track, put the entrance and theme it to Toontown, it's not "tomorrowlandy" enough anymore.

OR, completely overhaul it and create a transportation attraction that could fit the Tomorrowland theme more appropriately. At least that's what I would propose if in the position. (Though I think Tomorrowland is showing it's age and could use a freshening up. I feel the theme is getting inconsistent.)

It's for the kids, leave it alone until demand dries up (not likely), there's plenty of room for other 'stuff' if they need/want it. For the one's that don't get-it; it's not always about 'you'. (No malice intended, however, I see alot of negative comments (all over the boards) because something isn't the way you like it.)

I just think that 2 new attractions (a dark ride of classic Disney characters and something else as a toontown/tomorrowland transition) would be better. PLUS, they pollute anawful lot. With everyone going green I'd be surprised if Disney hasn't looked into this. I wonder what they spend on gas every year.

If kids really want to be adult part of that ride should be refueling your car at the end and paying via allowance and calling a tow truck when it breaks down....now THAt would be cute! "Aw look at little Jimmy out on the track waiting on his tow...." yay for automobiles!!!:lookaroun

I really hope they do that, it would cut back on noise, save on gas costs, and go along nicely with a re-theming to a more futuristic look (jetsons? minority report?) So much they could do with the space if they put their minds to it.
