Just thought I'd let everyone know. Disney made some announcements about there future films today. All of this information comes from filmforce at ign.com and comingsoon.net.

1. They announced OFFICALLY that Johnny Depp will play the mad hatter in Tim Burtons new movie Alice in Wonderland. They also said the film is being shot in 3-D. Great news IMO.

2. Johnny Depp will also be playing a character in The Lone Ranger. There are conflicting reports that he will play either Lone Ranger himself or Tonto. Filmforce says he has both Cherokee and Navajo ancestry. The movie is being produced by Jerry Bruckhiemer and written by Ted Elliot and Terry Rossio(Pirates). The film is rumored to be directed by Pirates director Gore Verbinski, but that was not confirmed.

3. Speaking of Pirates, Disney also said that they want to make another Pirates film. No other info was revealed, and its thought that the movie wont be made for a while as the Pirates creative team is working on The Lone Ranger. As long as the story is good, I'm all for another Pirates film.

4. Lastly, Disney said they were developing a National Treasure 3. No other details were revealed. I saw National Treasure, but not the second one. I did like the first one though. And I like I said, if the have a good story, I'm all for it.

All in all, it looks like good times ahead for Walt Disney Pictures. So many big films coming. Narnia: Voyage of the Dawn Treader, Prince of Persia: Sands of Time, Princess and The Frog, Rapunzel, Toy Story 3, Alice in Wonderland, TR2N, newt, and the new Muppet movie. Take those and add these new projects.:D I think there are great things in store for Disney with these films.

I don't like Burton+Alice in Wonderland. There is a perfect 'Alice' flick (American McGee Alice) just sitting around collecting dust. I don't think Disney owns the rights to that, but they oddly own the rights to American McGee's Oz.

I knew 'Lone Ranger' would come around sooner or later. I can see it under the Bruckhiemer banner.

And indeed, another 'Pirates' would be nice. :drevil:

I'm all for another Pirates as long as they keep it simple. And no Will/Elizabeth. I'm tired of those two.

Internet speculation says that Will and Elizabeth wont be in the next Pirates movie. If I recall, I think Keira said that she wouldn't do anymore Pirates movies.

Ooh, exciting!

Alice in Wonderland should be interesting with Tim Burton at the helm, and Johnny Depp would make a perfect Mad Hatter.

I'm most excited about the Lone Ranger. That sounds awesome!

Can't wait for Pirates 4 and National Treasure 3 also.

While the future of the theme parks looks a little bleak, at least the films are looking like real winners.

Empireonline has a full report on the event yesterday.

Wow...Cage as The Sorcerer's Apprentice. :lookaroun

Anyway, a lot of exciting announcements! Hopefully we are as excited about the final products as we are the announcements. Seems to me like Jerry Bruckheimer, Nicolas Cage, Johnny Depp, and The Rock will be staples for Disney movies for years to come.

Glad to hear some postive news from the Bolt screenings!
