There is no ride quite like Astro Orbiter.
Simple, not that exciting particually but VERY VERY fun!
Honestly, it is the single best nighttime ride in Disney IMHO.
The BEST views of Tomorrowland. When you get off of it.. go ride the Wedway /TTA ,Another completely underrated ride.
You dont hear alot about these 2 unless you are a die hard Disney fan but i always advise these to future Disney attendees.

I remember as a kid all the way up to around 11 or 12 I used to be really scared of that ride.

I know sounds funny but for some reason when I would go all the way up I always thought I would fall out from the side since it didnt have seatbelts.

Yes I was lame.

at first my dad wouldn't let me "fly" it by myself.

He said I was to young, and would crash into the planets.

Then he told me to take the stick, and I feared eminent death.

Then I realized I was safe, they were just lying to me.

Than I realized I had candy in my dinosaur pack, and was at Disney world.

It was quickly forgiven.

I'm afraid of heights, so the AO gets to me a bit. Plus, the line moves really, really slowly. But, it's still a great view, though I'd go for one of the two mountains of the other side of the park for a great nighttime view.

I 100% agree with your comment on Wedway / TTA. I love this ride. It's a great way to relax and see the sights of Tomorrowland. Astro Orbiter is fun, but personally I wouldn't wait in a huge line for it.

my daughter and I were very lucky, the very first time we rode this wishes had started, so we were able to view the fireworks in the sky! I will never forget that night, poor wife was worried we were gonna miss the fireworks cause we had went to ride buzz, she didnt know we were up there enjoying them all along! haha

I too love the people mover. It seems that even people who get incredibly bored easy enjoy this ride.

I think if they added some cool special effects in the dark places and whatnot to spice it up, it could get more riders.

Maybe even some merchandise.

I love astro orbiter, especially at night. I rode it one night while Spectro Magic was going on. It was fabulous. I could ride the TTA for hours.

Funny story-the first time we rode it my DM and DH shared a rocket. Why, I don't know- but they were laughing so hard they could hardly get out at the end of the ride. Let's just say that my DM got a lot more familiar with her son in law than she had ever thought she would!

The Astro Orbiter was closed when I was there last Sept. but I'm definitely going to ride it during my upcoming Sept. trip. Can't wait!

Also, I somehow missed doing the People Mover / TTA.

By the way- what's the difference between the People Mover and the TTA? Is it the same thing?

In the countless times I hae been to WDW I have never been on that ride! How lame is that? The lines moves so slow....and I am afraid of heights. Does it have a joystick like Dumbo? Maybe if I could stay on the lower level, so to speak, I would be okay? I would really love to ride it one day.

The Peoplemover was in Disneyland. The WEDway Peoplemover was installed in WDW in 1975. It was rethemed (new paint job and audio) in 1994 and renamed the Tomorrowland Transit Authority Metroliner blue line, or TTA for short. The ride system is still a WEDway.

I went on the for Astro Orbiter for the first time ever in my life, when I was on my honeymoon last november. I loved the views, but the spinning made me a little loopy lol. The funniest part was my husband trying to get in it, he has long legs and couldnt figure out how to get in without hurting himself lol, and ended up managing to get himself stuck somehow. Even though he is quite slender, his long legs made for a tough ride for him, and a hilarious ride for me lol.

TTA is one of favs, always has been, always will be :)

Same here - scared to death of the thing. The Aladdin Carpets scare me, too. I've naturally ridden Aladdin...but Mission Space and Astro Orbiter are the two things in WDW that I haven't ridden. I want to ride Astro Orbiter so badly, too - just to check out the night view - and also I'd love to get pics during the daytime from there but I think I might die of fear. OH WELL. :o

The Astro Orbiter is great, but like others, I won't ride it if the ride is ridiculous... which it usually is.

The TTA, however, this happens a few times each trip to the MK:
"What do you want to do now?"
"I dunno... wanna go on the TTA?"
"Yes I do."

Then we stay on for a few rounds.

The Astro Orbitor scares the crap out of me. My DS and I were at the MK one night.....just the two of us....and he was BEGGING to ride it. He had been on it before, but I had not. I finally gave in, and it was a NIGHTMARE for me.

I'm deathly afraid of heights, but I don't think that is what got to me. I think it spins way too fast for me....when it came to a stop, I could not stand up! I felt drunk for about 10 seconds, then I was finally able to get out.

Never again!!!

I just recently experienced the joy that is the TTA- and only because people here on the boards had talked about it... I wouldn't have even known it was there! We were tired and hot, so it was FABULOUS! I could have ridden that thing over and over!

I have never been on Mission Space either, too chicken! I did brave Rock n Roll last year and thought I would die, I think I held my breath too long or the G forces at take off got to me and I was dizzy and crying , no kidding. I walked thru the gift shop after the ride and I was shaking and crying, people must have thought something tragic happened! My daughter who got me to ride by showing me the older lady in a wheelchair and the little kids in line in front of us, felt horrible. All she could say was "I'm sorry! Now you can say you have been on it and hated it!" "You never have to ride again! " :ROFLOL:

I have been on most of the rides in MK but not this one, mainly because the ridiculous queues generally discourage me and it is similar to several rides closer to home for me.

The WEDWAY however is a hidden gem, better yet I've only ever seen a queue for it once.(and that was short)
