I have 2 boys so I notice girl stuff because I usually have both my kids going "ewww pink, ewwww girls stuff...lets not go that way"..... and we have to make a wide birth around that area as to not cootie ourselves. :brick: Well, I have been wide birthing around the stores in DD and the parks alot more lately...

But I have been going to Disney for years and it just seems that within the last 5 years, everything is princess this and bibbidy bobbity boo that, whats the deal? Im guessing its a huge seller....but my oldest said on our last trip "Mom, Disney is turning into a girl place"

Well, for a while the Pirates have been providing a good foil for the Princesses. However, as that franchise looses a bit of steam, I wonder what will happen.

I was wondering what the next boy market will be myself. Pirates is going to lose steam I think. If Toy Story 3 is really happening it may be that.

My son is into Pirates now so the Pirate Adventure is right up his alley. I booked it today for 8/26. He is so excited. But yes, there needs to be more boy centered activities and meals.

I have a girl and even I get sick of princesses!

The princess stuff started out as something special and now we've been so overexposed, I think it has lost its magic. My daughter's already bored with them and she only knows who a few of them even are.

The princess thing is cute.............but.............there does need to be more boy stuff. I also noticed that girls that are borderlined too old to be wearing the outfits are walking around as well. Like 11-12??? I just think that's too old to be running around in the those tinkerbell outfits. Hey you don't see me cramping my fat thighs in to a cinderella dress! I would love more Pirate stuff for myself and the guys in my family!

Perhaps all the princess stuff is down to the exceptionaly high volume of old Queens at WDW

Oooh I see wut you did there :ROFLOL:

Also I really dont think the princess thing is all that bad, at least not as bad as two years ago. Girls are the ones to normally suffer in terms of marketing anyways. Most kids companies/TV station aim for the boys demographic. Disneys kinda tapping into an ignored sector which is why they milk it a little more than the boys Franchises

The Princess invasion was at its worst in the parks IMO during the Happiest Celebration with that horribly twee Cinderellabration show that took over the castle stage. Since then it's died down a little. Though granted the Merch still fills the parks. Theres plenty Pirates, Power Rangers, Disney Heroes ect. still. That said I dont think the girlyness will let off too soon; HSM is still riding the waves of popularity too, and Disneys just started promoting the Faries franchise more in Disneyland. Though in consolation; there should be plenty Prince Caspian and Wall-E stuff about soon.

We consider our boys a blessing. We love the fact that we don't have to worry about them wanting all that stuff. My friend fears going to WDW with her DD because she's so into the princesses she'd want everything. My oldest is very much into Pirates now too so we know we'll be spending some time in Adventureland, but I'll take that over desperately trying to meet all the princesses and getting all the costume materials. DS does know all the princesses and is happy when he sees them but we don't have to hunt them down like others have to.

My DS (6) is into the classics, the GOOD STUFF. He loves the old Disney cartoons featuring the fab 5, and Chip n Dale , huey dewy and louie of course. IMO Disney should go back to their roots, which is marketable to EVERYONE!!!! The ORIGINAL characters are what makes Disney, Disney. It was all started by a Mouse :animwink:
But that's just my opinion

The trouble IMHO is that everything IS generic character orientated and available at your local store for less.

Soooooooo boring.

Oh now let's not forget all the Hannah Montana junk....ooohhh and then there's the whole High School Musical thing.....

I dunno. I've got 2 boys ages 10 &12. One thing that has irked me since I was pregnant with them is that whenever you walk into ANY store that sells baby/childrens clothing you will see no less than 3/4 girl stuff and a little afterthought, obligatory corner of boy stuff. Ugh! I hate hate hate that! Then of course there's stores like Limited Too that's nothing but girl stuff (which thankfully I don't have to buy because that stuff is soooo expensive). There are no stores of just boy stuff. Girl stuff is always so cute, creative, and fun. Boy stuff, well, not so much.

I think a lot of the princess merchandise/marketing in the parks isn't just for the sake of the little girls, it's marketed at the parents. Every mom & dad who takes their little girl to WDW just looooves to see their little Princess be all decked out so it's cute and stuff. It's an emotional thing. I can imagine I'd be all into that, too, if I had a girl. I'll tell you right now my husband would plop down ANY amount of money if he had a girl to Princess-up. LOL! But think of the same parents with a boy. It's not as common for it to be one of mom & dad's fantasies to bring their little fella to the parks to see him all Pirated-out or Mickey'd up. Ya know? It's just not as common a mental picture to play at. The people who market stuff at Disney are smaaaart. No doubt.

We consider our boys a blessing. We love the fact that we don't have to worry about them wanting all that stuff.

Amen! Both times I was pregnant we hoped for girls. Obviously the Man upstairs knew what He was doing giving us boys. :animwink: I have nieces. I am sooooo grateful for boys. Plus, I get to be The Princess in my house which works just fine for me. :king:

That is absolutely true. I bought a Mickey Mouse shirt in target and I got so many compliments on it while I was in wdw....I also bought a really cute Tinkerbell shirt in one of those hoakey stores on International Drive, but it was nicer than anything they had at the parks.

Actually, I kinda agree, however with POTC and the pirates part of WWOD store, they kinda are picking up. i think they need a very masculine character meal, and a make over to become their fav. prince or pirate or power ranger, or whatever boys like these days
but i have to agree, they need more boys stuff

I will agree the Disney princesses have become a bit long in the tooth. It does seem to be a sea of pink all over the place. Not only can it be hard to find something cool for boys but also girls who want something other than princess stuff. I guess like everything else, Disney will ride this till the bitter end.

I feel the princess pain ... I was no princess as a child and I don't want to be one now.

As a woman (and hater of all things pink and perky) I'm at a loss when I go to the parks and see racks of girily clothing and items. Don't adults want outfits they can ware to work? I know I'd love a nice wrap shirt with a Disney print.

And what happend to Alice? What happend to Donald Duck? And for the love of all things what happend to Peter Pan! Seriously, on my last trip I found a good sizes plastic figure of Peter Pan with no Tinkerbell on it, everyone in the store watched me dance around in joy at the find. It's not that I hate Tink (maybe just a little), I've just really been sick of her for the last 5 years or so.
