edit: even if you make it twice as steep and cut the length of the ramp in half, the combined up and down plus landing space is still longer than the linear distance between TBA and the island.

edit2: not to mention the width of the tunnel to accommodate two way traffic going up and down.

If you had to do it, the best way to conserve space would be an elevator shaft and switch back stairs. But that's not looking pretty in the middle of frontier land.

Might as well keep the rafts.

An elevator in Frontierland, excluding some specific required features at the access points, would not have to look like a sleek, contemporary elevator. Disney has a whole team of people who be able to make one not stand out. The easy thing would be to make it look like mining equipment, and that’s assuming it has to be visible.

The dock for guests is still there, and for maintenance I suggested having a river just wide enough for it between BTM and Cars, connecting to the current out point

Make it like Disneyland's and build their own Fowler's harbor somewhere alone the shortened route. Perhaps a short dead end spur into the dry dock just about where the bridge that connects the two halves of Tom Sawyer's Island is today.

You don’t have to make the elevator the only choice… And not to mention egress? That’s not something difficult to figure out and make work. It’s 0.2” clear width per person with a minimum 44” clear. Design it right and you wouldn’t need more than that minimum.

Eddie actually did serious design work for a tunnel connection at Disneyland which is he gave the island the name he did.

I’d rather the finite funds available for investment/maintenance be spent on something better than preserving a decapitated ROA. Of course it feels like I’m in the minority. However, my expectation is that more people will warm up to this project once things start to take shape. But we’ll see.

In any event, as Eddie mentioned, the case is closed. The river will be drained soon. In my opinion, it’s a waste of time to discuss “what ifs” at this point. Better to focus on what will be.

Given that Universal pushed forward to develop an entire new park in that same time period, Disney's flounderings with relatively miniscule projects and their outright failures (i.e. Galactic Starcruiser and Harmonious) seem even more ludicrous.

Universal "value engineered" EU (where's the 2nd Potter attraction, e.g.) and the new Kid Zone. Comcast is currently tight on cash on hand. The excitement for further additions to their 3 parks is in stark contrast to all the dead spots languishing without a replacement (Fear Factor, Sinbad, Poseidon) and their own outright failures (F&F). Which should be a sign that they're also "floundering" a bit.

Neither company has the cash to do what their fan base would like them to do. Both companies have to prioritize projects and prune dead weight. Both companies had plans changed due to the pandemic.

This is something I've always found interesting. In recent times, a lot of newer stuff by Universal imo have been kinda major flops (Minions, Fallon, F&F, Kong (seriously my god what a downgrade for Kong's prescence in the parks), Dreamworks land. Their US park is imo the worst of the major parks in Florida and IOA needs some desperate funding between the last time I was on Jurassic Park and the sorry state of Lost Continent. Yes, Hagrids + Velocicoaster are INCREDIBLE attractions but looking back at the last decade imo its clear Disney had the much much better decade imo but they're essentially remembered for their few flops while Universal got remembered for their few wins.

Yet, he can't tell the difference between test footage testing terrain and what the actual ride will look like? I can't believe the amount of people that see that footage and believe Disney are going to build a barren dirt track in the middle of Frontierland when that is obviously not what's going to happen

• What is the thickness of the ceiling of your tunnel going under a river? 2'? (I have no idea how thick the concrete is for ROA and or what utilities are under it if any)
• What is the height of the tunnel? 8'?

So to go from TBA and down below the tunnel we need to go maybe 16'? An ADA compliant ramp is a max of 30" rise per run. So we would need 6 runs where you are allowed 1 foot of elevation change per 12 foot of linear distance. A single 30" rise would need to be 30' long. In order to get down you would need 180' ramp not including landing space etc.

The distance between TBA area and the island is around 150' depending on where you measure.

So we just got down, but we didn't even get back up yet.

I guess we can build an elevator shaft with some switch back stairs that's 2-3 stories tall going straight down somewhere. I wouldn't want to have to design the drainage system for this tunnel.
