I’m still wondering how many people saw the movie as kids. I took a survey of all my Disney loving friends (we’re in our late 60’s) and neither they nor their kids had actually seen the movie.

Valid question, outside of us super fans many have probably never seen it, or saw it years ago and only have a very vague memory of it.
It’s never been an issue for me, he’s always looked about 20 to me and her about 16, definitely a bit taboo but not like he’s 40 and she’s 12. If they state their ages in the movie I’ve forgotten.
ETA… I was curious so I googled it and according to "The Art of Walt Disney" Prince Florian was written to be 18 and Snow White 14, I overestimated both their ages. A bit taboo but unless people bother to Google it how would they ever know?

The more I think about it the more I believe Disney lost its ever-lovin’ mind making a current live-action version of this subject matter.

Watching Snow White in a theater is my first movie memory (not its original release
). My kids have watched it many times. I’ve never taken a survey but I would be shocked if the majority of people I know hadn’t seen it. I imagine the availability of cable, home movies, and now streaming would make that more common in younger generations though.

My niece is 14 and she has watched the movie ever since she was a little girl, and it's one of her favorite movies. Bambi is another one that she loves.

I can't speak for everyone but those of us that grew up in the 70s and 80s have more than likely seen it at least once. It was rereleased to theaters a few times during that period, not to mention it being released to video in the 90s.
So its not hard to believe that many people have seen it even if they don't remember it or haven't seen it since.

No but they have been confirmed separately to be 14 and 18 respectively I don’t know why they made that decision. They couldn’t have lowered it to 17 really?

Where have they been confirmed? If it's just supplement material made by people years after the movie was released then it doesn't count.

Snow has just gone through puberty, which is somewhat the conceit of the story. You could worry and say she’s even 12 or 13 with that information. She has no real discernible independence.
The Prince is presented as emancipated and older. 18 is generous as other sources place him 19-21.

The 14 is the weird part, really. The age of consent was pretty firmly 16 in the Western world when this movie came out.
For the era that it's fantasizing upon, though? That's right within the norms.

As I said I have no issue with it, it’s essentially a high school senior dating a high school freshman, likely happening countless times all over the world, in 2025, as we speak about it.
I wouldn’t be thrilled if it was my daughter but it’s pretty common even by today’s standards.

Agree, it’s Snow White’s age that is the problem, particularly when moving over to live action.
She needs to be a bit more independent. Not for some token modern day reasoning, but so she literally doesn’t feel like a child.
Even Ariel feels a little young-ish. Though hers is the story of teenage defiance. But Eric still comes off at least as a peer. None of the other princesses (with romantic leanings) present themselves as too child like otherwise. A few immature, but more as a sheltered character trait.

There’s a bit more debate that he’s 19-21. I think 18 is putting the genie back in the bottle. Because, yes, 19+ is becoming illegal.
