MK Cars-Themed Attractions at Magic Kingdom

For any NBA fans - Dallas trading a 25 year old Luka Doncic = Disney getting rid of the entire ROA.

IMO, just porting the Wreck-It redo of Space Ranger Spin from Tokyo feels like the easier win on that front. I still stand by making TRON into Aquatopia (or basically the same thing) with some light 20k Leagues theming references in the water to partially restore the original transition and compensate for losing a lot of water by adding some back elsewhere. An accompanying retheme of Cosmic Ray's would also be most welcome, preferably with edible food.

Easier. Definitely not better than a fully fleshed out Sugar Rush version of RSR.

As a sympathetic Disneylander I guess I can now selfishly say that a silver lining for me is that an MK with a more of a unique identity that sets it apart from Disneyland will be waiting for me at WDW one day. Not that the entire ROA had to go to accomplish this or that I would have ever green lit this project for this reason. I think that could have been better accomplished by keeping half of the ROA, building Villains land, and building a Sugar Rush Wreck it Ralph ride (instead of the off brand Cars adventure) at the TL Speedway. Not to mention the potential Moana ride in Adventureland. Thematically a Wreck it Ralph / Sugar Rush ride would feel right between Fantasyland and TL unlike Cars in Frontierland and on top of the corpse of the ROA. The Sugar Rush ride, Villains and Moana to go along with the likes of Tron/ 7DMT would be great for MK. All while keeping an integral part of the park alive.

I am not a Disneylander but do still feel like more important to keep more of the original elements there vs Florida. Obviously changes can still (and have) happened but I would be much more upset about the rivers of America being removed than at MK

With the amount of merch that Cars has sold, it makes sense that a major attraction would eventually come to WDW. If they hadn’t acquired Lucasfilm, there would probably be a Cars Land where Galaxy’s Edge sits today

I am arguing that people are probably more mad than they would be with another ip in the “replacing the river” situation,

if we had to lose the River, period, I would prefer a coco boat ride e ticket over the cars ride. The cars ride does not seem particularly interesting to me - but maybe it will work better than I’m imagining.

Don't be sorry for us. I've got faith that when its all said and done this will be good for Magic Kingdom. The worst Frontierland in the world has been in dire need of attention and upgrading for my entire lifetime. It, like most things in Magic Kingdom, is a downgraded version of what is done better in other castle parks around the world. It's not as beautiful as Paris', it's not as energetic and lively as Anaheim's and Tokyo's, and it's not as unique as Shanghai's and Hong Kong's. It's not the worst thing in the world to look at, but it lacks and has always lacked in comparison to the other examples around the world.

MK is the most visited park in the world, and I've long been tooting the horn that it needs to actually set itself apart from the other castle parks in ways that aren't just having the inferior versions of attractions but on a larger scale. It needs things that are unique to it, and the idea of going in and changing the lands to do that is not a poor one. The concept of a National Park interpretation of Frontierland is a smart one, and if executed correctly (and yes, I admit that's a big if), then it could instantly bump up from the bottom to near the top. MK needs to stop trying to do what the other parks are doing and just do MK. A completely unique interpretation of Frontierland that's not trapped in this frozen state it's been in since the 80s is the perfect opportunity for that.

I'm not completely sold on the IP attached to it yet but if what they build actually resembles that concept art and we actually get a truly unique, energetic, and nice looking National Park spin on the land, then MK's Frontierland may finally become an interesting place to be.

Eh. Seven dwarfs mine train had beautiful water features.... When it first opened. They've been shut off for a long time now. For as much rain as Walt Disney World gets, they sure do seem to struggle to keep their water features going and to keep water as a feature.

Not necessarily - Tom Sawyer island at MK is quite charming with the AA’s in the fort, the swinging bridge, the mills you can go inside.

I’ve always liked how splash and big thunder were so close together - 2 amazing e-tickets right next door to each other.

The real issues with Frontierland are budget cuts over the years. Aunt Polly’s, Horseshoe, the cowboy band (banjo brothers and bob) keel boats….

I never saw the original fort wilderness at Disneyland - it had long been neglected and closed. I think I visited Tom Sawyer island before they cut it back, but I’m not entirely sure. Seems like I would have.

The current island at Disneyland is nice enough. A few trails and caves. Some props from the pirate movie. Kinda fun to walk along the Fantasmic stage.

This is just so shortsighted. Cars racing past the Haunted Mansion. Cars racing past the runaway mine train. Cars racing past the Country Bear Musical Jamboree.

The amount of "settling" I see in this thread is somewhat disheartening. It's because they think people won't care that they make these dumb decisions. I suppose it's not surprising that the podcasters on here are in favor, but I've yet to find one that's critical without being somewhat crazy. Maybe I need to start my own. I have a hunch there are many more "Disgruntled Walts" out there than just me.

I find it funny in terms of clones people complain for Disneyland and Disney World however Universal makes sure each resort each coast has a form of the same land and nobody is complaining with them!

honestly going to say that just as the Magic Kingdom is not Disneyland (and vice versa), Disney is not Universal, and building mostly nearly 1:1 clones of the same attraction - especially in the same country - borders on being every bit as "Universal" as their repeated, and repeatedly scattershot, attempts to come up with the next "Potter swatter".

I'm not completely against and can actually get behind building a popular attraction more than once, but IMO it's equally as important, if not more, that each park (even the Disneyland-style ones) maintains some sort of distinct identity, and that means claiming a few unique attractions to themselves

A few new small dark rides that wouldn’t convince many to book a trip is very much what Magic Kingdom needs more than anything. That’s how you actually add capacity without negating its impact with new demand.

besides refreshing the facades of the existing attractions so that the whole land gels better, these low-key are what New Fantasyland really could've benefitted from, arguably more than what did get built. with Mermaid, they pretty much sold the public on a groundbreaking E-ticket and wound up underdelivering with what could be called, at best, a high C/low D (and not a very well-executed high C/low D, either).

imagine how things could've gone if they had put in two or three C/D-tickets that are actually designed to help fill out a guest's day - or to put it another way, do what so many defend the Mermaid that was built for doing - while simultaneously putting in a new, true E to anchor the project
