Imagine looking at MK in 2019 and thinking Frontierland/Liberty Square is what needs fixing the most and not Tomorrowland.

It is part of the larger plan to access the Villains expansion plot and increase capacity. I think we all agree that Tomorrowland needs work and that there could even be a very quickly realized (albeit small) capacity boost within in the form of a Stitch replacement, but it's generally re-work that needs to be done over there, not new work. While Cars is obviously divisive conceptually, this is actually the more correct order of operations in that there is at least some added capacity on the horizon here that will potentially dull the sting of capacity loss in a hypothetical Tomorrowland fast follow.

Universal Studios is a classic, but yeah not my favorite, looks too much the same throughout. Why I kind of prefer Hollywood Studios better only because it has more color!

It's a classic but they're replaced most of their classic and good attractions to give us mediocrity. Hollywood Studios atleast has quite a few imo great/standout attractions with the not as good ones not being bad. UO has a list of imo straight out BAD attractions (made worse with the fact that the BAD ones are almost all very recent additions)

but off the soapbox because this is a Cars thread. IMO, Frontierland needed the change, not because of the older version being bad but more because the stories of Cowboys vs ""Indians"" just don't relate to modern audiences anymore. It's a weird time in history that's just not the same anymore. Liberty Square is kinda like this as well but it gets a pass for its historical significance showing the birthplace of our country.

Not to mention, Tomorrowland DID get some updates that imo make it LOOK a lot better. Now, it has to BE better with some better rides. I think the current "street" down can basically all be replaced as well as Tomorrowland Speedway but you can quickly see how this idea can essentially close almost all of Tomorrowland vs New Frontierland that only stops an attraction that the gen pub has not cared for in years. Country Bears is seemingly a little more popular after being closed for "relatively" a short time. Splash Mountain is... well Tiana's is good when its working but overall its redesign was more to usher in a new theme while getting rid of some unsavory elements. Splash was killed by the Internet community imo but not in the way people think. Everyone who kept talking about the "secret backstory of Splash" and how its from a banned movie just got too much to ignore.

They put up a wall in the middle of the land to justify ignoring half of it instead of continuing to improve more facades.

The Tangled restrooms replacing the Skyway chalet happened because they got rid of the restrooms across the street to expand PPF's queue.

I don’t think the concept at its core is all that bad. Sure, it sucks to lose ROA, but a grizzly peak-esque Pacific Northwest vibes area is, to me, the perfect replacement to ROA and could be great. Heck, the rally race idea sounds like it could be fun too! think people are just hung up that it’s CARS. While I’m not as staunchly opposed to it as some, it is kinda iffy to stick cars in MK, but I think it could still be fun. Just the IP has people hung up. I have an idea for an IP that could get people somewhat behind this attraction concept. Remember that old “country bear 500” attraction that was pitched for DL? Now use that theme, but put it in the current cars ride concept, racing around grizzly peak. Hear me out….

A few new small dark rides that wouldn’t convince many to book a trip is very much what Magic Kingdom needs more than anything. That’s how you actually add capacity without negating its impact with new demand.

As a sympathetic Disneylander I guess I can now selfishly say that a silver lining for me is that an MK with a more of a unique identity that sets it apart from Disneyland will be waiting for me at WDW one day. Not that the entire ROA had to go to accomplish this or that I would have ever green lit this project for this reason. I think that could have been better accomplished by keeping half of the ROA, building Villains land, and building a Sugar Rush Wreck it Ralph ride (instead of the off brand Cars adventure) at the TL Speedway. Not to mention the potential Moana ride in Adventureland. Thematically a Wreck it Ralph / Sugar Rush ride would feel right between Fantasyland and TL unlike Cars in Frontierland and on top of the corpse of the ROA. The Sugar Rush ride, Villains and Moana to go along with the likes of Tron/ 7DMT would be great for MK. All while keeping an integral part of the park alive.

Not at all. I’m not against Cars as an IP - the Cars Land is probably the most successful 1 IP land Disney has done. I enjoy it very much.

I’d take cars replacing the speedway for sure - would make lots of sense and could even blend fantasyland and Tomorrowland in a nice way.

What I’m hung up on is removing the riverboat, rivers of America, waterfront, etc. that’s what most people are upset with I think.

The permit doesn't really limit how much they can fill in the area, it just specifies the minimum elevation they're planning to bring RoA area to to satisfy stormwater drainage requirements. Right now, the existing perimeter of RoA and surrounding areas is anywhere between 98' and 100', and the basin of RoA is approx 93-95ish. The permit states they'll bring the entirety of RoA to a minimum of 98.75.

The actual construction civil drawings for Cars and Villains could include a ton of grading that provides lots of topology change to the final site design, but this permit at a minimum suggests they will bring all of RoA level with the rest of surrounding MK

Just going through some more stuff, as I look through this, and I'm not sure if this is anything. Almost everything around MK is in the limits of construction. Except this area that was carved out (It is listed as Existing Wetland):

It could simply mean that all the areas of consturction (laydowns, park area, other areas of water management require runoff or other water management and this part of the park doesn't need it. I dunno, just stood out to me.

Note 14 acres as the listed area. This may coincide with the construction bid we just saw. Note that this is NOT behind Haunted Mansion, but the river and the surround areas itself.

This is the area directly behind HM/IASM. I'm posting this only to mention it's 3.6 acres.

And those laydown yards?

If you look below, all the red areas will be cleared and filled with sand. The blue, the organic soil will remain. Not sure if that says anything or not about future construction that people are armchair imagineering.

The project includes the construction of five laydown areas, one to the west of Floridian Place and four to the
east of Floridian Place in low-lying areas between the roadway and the Magic Kingdom theme park. Three of

IMO, just porting the Wreck-It redo of Space Ranger Spin from Tokyo feels like the easier win on that front. I still stand by making Speedway into Aquatopia (or basically the same thing) with some light 20k Leagues theming references in the water to partially restore the original transition and compensate for losing a lot of water by adding some back elsewhere. An accompanying retheme of Cosmic Ray's would also be most welcome, preferably with edible food.

Maybe I should’ve worded it better: people would be angry about the river going regardless. I am arguing that people are probably more mad than they would be with another ip in the “replacing the river” situation, because cars is probably the ultimate “extra punch in the nuts” or “rubbing salt in the wound” choice of a property that would off fans the most.

I.E., it’s the worst case scenario for many.
