Disney (and others) at the Box Office - Current State of Affairs

But you’re also talking about it. You’re just framing it differently from @Casper Gutman (I happen to agree with his framing).
Except I'm not, at least not to the level or depths that Casper wants to discuss it. I'm trying to avoid this thread getting purged and shutdown by the Mods, Casper and it seems now you seem not to care. That is why I suggested to take the conversation to its own thread so it can be discussed and whatever happens happens. I'm not sure why that is such an issue to either of you, if you want to discuss it please be my guest but do it in another thread, and maybe if I feel the need to weigh in I'll go and post in that thread. I just don't want to clog this thread up more than it already is with other topics, especially those that are political that will get purged.

I agree I am interested in the conversation but I’m fearful of participating lest I get my comments deleted

Well if you're interested in that topic, then maybe take the initiative and create a new thread for it, and invite Casper and any others that want to talk about it over to that thread. :)

I don’t want to discuss the issue. I’m just pointing out that you, too, have offered your thoughts on the topic:
As I said elsewhere, I would wait and see what actually changes if anything.

But in general its not hard to believe they would put a "pause" on such initiatives until a time when it can be received more friendly. This is common in business.

And while I appreciate your input, as I said I'm not discussing it on the level and depths that Casper wants to so I'm remaining as surface level as possible. If some have an issue with that, well I'm sorry I'm trying to keep it within the rules as I explained in my previous posts and keep under the radar and ire of the Mods. Which is why there is now a thread to have this discussion if anyone want to have it, @Agent H has graciously created it for all to partake if they wish -

Unlike Casper, I don't think this topic needs to underpin every other discussion on this side of the forums.

B- CinemaScore, lowest of the MCU releases. Second weekend should be something else.

I haven’t seen it, nor am I terribly excited for it… but that’s a twist.

Based on RT I was more curious if we were getting an A- than a B-…

I retract my smooth sailing commentary. If that’s valid I expect the weekend (sat and sun) to show more declines than the original projections.

So again I don't know what you expect here.

Nothing.

We (at least in my age group) are used to this.

Most people outside our community are fine if we make progress, fine if we go backwards.

They may even be a little uncomfortable with us being in certain Disney and other films.

They are entertained by Will & Grace-esque banter and antics.

But they’ll trade our marriages for a (real or imagined) tax cut.

Fair weather friends.

Meanwhile, we are being scrubbed from government websites, canceled from the Kennedy Center, bullied out of movies, TV, and department stores, and our marriages are already being challenged via SCOTUS.

This is absolutely part of the discussion about box office trends. It’s just bizarrely, arbitrarily not welcome on this one particular site, which didn’t even allow us to mention Gay Days until a short time ago. Perhaps that will end up back in the closet soon enough.

You could have stayed on the right side of forum rules and skirted the issue while exuding a little less indifference, had that been your intent.

I expect nothing.

I'm sorry that I appear to have touched a nerve here. I think I've been fairly clear about my intent here, and what side I fall on regard this and similar topics. So I'm not sure why you're coming at me, since this is 100% clearly not about me.

Also we now have a dedicated thread for this topic, which is all I really was trying to have happen. Instead of it clogging up this thread with a topic that is very likely to be purged because these topics tend to get very heated by all sides and the Mods have to come clean it up, as shown by your very clearly heated post to me. So forgive me for trying to suggest having a dedicated thread while leaving this one in place. Also while this topic does deal with the box office, its SOOOOOOOOO much larger than that which is also why I suggested a dedicated thread. So again forgive me for suggesting to give you and all the others that want to discuss it a specific thread to have that discussion.

Five years of MCU’s wobbly and declining popularity and they’re just gonna right the ship with an Avengers movies next year featuring the characters from the films responsible for the wobbly and diminishing popularity? I’m having a hard time seeing it, and that’s apart from the budget and social factors around moviegoing.

There’s no entry point for general audiences. These things are increasingly playing to people in the 30s-50s age demo. My hunch is they’re destined to become more like Star Trek as time goes on.

The MCU is like a TV show that jumped the shark after its third season. Sometimes there'll be a decent episode, but the overall quality is just not there.

Unfortunately, my brother wants to go to Captain America and forcing me to go with him and I just don't care at all at this point. I was never a fan of Captain America's films.

The last 2 years suggest audiences are getting more selective about what MCU titles they'll support.

There was hype for Deadpool and Wolverine because both characters were still popular and there was a novelty in having them paired together. Guardians 3, like Black Panther 2, benefitted from the appeal of those particular characters/stories.

Ant Man 3, The Marvels and this? People aren't going to show up and like everything anymore. Giving Marvel the benefit of the doubt has been eroded by titles like these and all the Sony stuff.

I still expect Fantastic Four to do well, as they haven't had a movie in a while, but Thunderbolts may not. Especially since it's the next release after Captain America 4 and doesn't have any of the major, popular characters.

My gut tells me they’ll go 0-3 this year…so we’ll see

I don’t…fantastic four just doesn’t draw eyes

They could go 0-3 this year

And this new avengers movie they have cooking really seems like the worst idea ever
