I am not skeptical Villians will happen. Any project which hasn’t started construction and is slated to open as much as 5 years out is always subject to macro economic challenges or individual TWDC financial issues. That being said if you assume no major economic issues I believe the land will happen. Where I’m a little skeptical is what the land will be. I feel like Villians could and should be a “dark fantasyland” with so many good stories to tell. I fear the coaster depicted in the concept art will be the main E ticket. While that may be a fun ride, a coaster doesn’t easily tell good stories. I’d prefer multiple dark ride type attractions and a more fleshed out land but it’s hard to assume anything from really basic concept art.
As far as Monsters and Rockin Muppet Coaster I see no reason these things won’t happen. Monsters is under way already. I am not in the camp that assumes the theater show won’t happen. I think it will. I have no idea whether it will be any good, but it’s very likely happening. Aerosmith was getting removed from RNRC either way. The Muppets need a place in the parks. Pretty simple and easy way to kill 2 birds with 1 stone. The Muppet story telling would have to be in the queue, pre-show and any post ride areas (small gift shop). The ride itself is very fast and over very quickly so not much chance to tell a story. RNRC is a fun ride now that doesn’t have a complex plot or take itself too seriously so it’s a good fit for the Muppets who can add some humor to it as well.
I personally hope the Villains coaster has about as much storytelling as Big Thunder. We see this villain's vignette, then that one's, etc. There is too much "explicit narrative" in attractions lately. In my childhood I used to pretend that Space Mountain was a Star Wars ride and it was cool. Now it's great that there are lot of literal Star Wars rides now, but my imagination doesn't have to flex anymore.
