We have no indication they’ve even finalized plans for a Muppets replacement, let alone are ready to start construction. There PR is not indicating the project is ready to begin installation. We have very reliable insiders, and they have said nothing about the project. Unless I misremember, this project was not even mentioned at D23.

I also wonder how long some folks have been following WDW. Shuttering attractions (and stores and restaurants) to save operating costs is standard practice for the resort and has been for years. Uni does it as well, of course. This isn’t an unprecedented situation.

There is a clear history of Disney closing stuff just to save costs. There’s also a clear history of new projects being announced and actually being built. Both exist in history. So while it’s possible everything they announced gets canceled and very little gets built it’s also possible they do build all the new stuff. Reality will probably fall in the middle. When backlot tour and streets of America closed they announced Toy Story and Star Wars replacing that and it happened. When Great Movie Ride closed and they announced a Mickey replacement it actually happened. It’s not like every time they announce new projects they always get cancelled.

I personally hope the Villains coaster has about as much storytelling as Big Thunder. We see this villain's vignette, then that one's, etc. There is too much "explicit narrative" in attractions lately. In my childhood I used to pretend that Space Mountain was a Star Wars ride and it was cool. Now it's great that there are lot of literal Star Wars rides now, but my imagination doesn't have to flex anymore.

I am not opposed to to a coaster in general. For example, I actually think the door coaster is a great concept for Monsters. I just wish Villians would have more of a fantasyland feel to it. A coaster could exist like Mine Train now in FL but not be the main attraction for the whole land. If you consider FL has Small World, Pan, Pooh and LM plus Philharmagic as well I’d love to see the Villians land feature multiple dark rides plus maybe some flat rides like Dumbo, a few shows or walkthroughs and some unique dining and shops in addition to the coaster. I fear we end up with an E ticket coaster plus a C ticket ride and some filler similar to Pandora. Villians deserves more. Monsters is perfectly fine having 1 main ride plus a show and dining/shops since it’s a mini-land. Villians should be more substantial IMHO.

I hope not. I like Disney coasters in general. I love Hagrids which I imagine is more likely the style they would build (launches vs large lift hills) but I’d prefer Villians to be slower moving dark rides. Just my opinion.

I hope the main Villian attraction is a B&M invert like Nemesis at Alton Towers. I feel Villains land should be the opposite of Fantasyland. You have Fantasyland for the kids and families. Make Villians land dark, scary with attractions that fit that theme.

There are definitely trolls on this cite. I don't think @Casper Gutman is one. He sometimes states his opinion more harshly than I would like, but he definitely is well thought-out in his opinions and isn't just trying to antagonize.

Planned or not it still happened. Regrets or not it still happened.

Disney has announced the plan to replace MV3D with a brand new theater show. People here seem to want to ignore that and assume that nothing will replace MV3D but it was announced, Disney has not been completely quiet about the Monsters theater show. Disney has now also announced a closing date for MV3D in June 2025 with the entire Muppets area behind construction walls at that time. That’s what we know for sure, the rest is speculation. Disney has not announced a plan to open Monsters in phases with the rest of the land open before Door Coaster - just a possibility. They also have not announced a plan to close Muppets now to save on operating costs with a plan to just let the area sit vacant for years. Both possibilities are pure speculation.

I think we can all agree that at Disney’s historic pace of construction that if the plan is to open Monsters in phases, even the front half without the Door Coaster would take at least a year to build out so nothing before Summer 2026. There’s still plenty of time to release more details about the show in the next 18 months. Nobody should expect the Monsters show to be open by the holidays.

The majority of the projects planned for EPCOT were cancelled completely with the ones that did get built being budget cut. That's been just in the last five years. Villains is definitely the thing least likely to happen from this last batch of announcements

I think outside of the Epcot set of announcements (which includes Main Street Theater) you don't have many examples of things outright cut. Certainly nothing as major as Villains Land. And we all know that Covid was a factor with Epcot... and most people grant a massive economic event like that may lead to cancellations. But you can't make your predictions based on that, because otherwise that would always be the case.

Budget cuts/value engineering, sure. But cancellation is what people are predicting/worried about here.

For me, the door warehouse chase was “The Scene” of the movie for me, so basing the new ride on it works for me. Especially since there are two dark rides for Monsters Inc already.

Not lying I wore out the VHS of Monsters as a kid just watching and rewatching the door chase sequence. The fact they didn't jump on this chance when the movie came out still confuses me

Covid was a factor sure, but I never believed we would see that festival building even before covid. If something looks too good to be true I think it's a good rule of thumb at this point to believe it is. Maybe this cycle of announcements will prove that wrong, but there's a lot of precedent to back up the skeptics.

The EPCOT projects really weren't that long ago, and they weren't what established the precedent of Disney canceling projects. It becomes kind of a boy who cried wolf type of situation, if the company keeps telling you they're gonna do something and then they don't do it, it's natural to expect them to not do the next thing they tell you they're gonna do. Maybe this announcement cycle will break that precedent, but as of now there's little reason to have faith in the projects they've already shared little about.

Ah, my mistake. I still don't see any example of something on the scale of Villains Land being cancelled outside of Epcot, and even that was just massive cuts.

If this happens, then maybe. But I'm not entirely sure where you are getting these economic predictions. Some of my peers in construction believe it will either decrease or the rate of increase will slow. We shall see.
