Muppets is problematic now????

Well, unfortunately that gets thrown around. Here's what one of our resident muppet haters says

Dude...have you ever seen The Muppet Show? Let's see: misogyny, fat-shaming, stereotyping, puppets blowing each other up, beating each other up, mean-spiritedness...I can see why Disney stopped releasing more seasons of that show.

So for some, they'll find any reason to get rid of them.

If Muppet*Vision is going away, it would be an opportunity to produce a new Muppets attraction, that's all.

Based on what we've seen from Disney and the Muppets. What would your confidence level be that the end result would be better than muppet vision? On a scale of 1 - 10, I'm somewhere around a 2.

You spend the money to:

Have better thematic consistency of attractions to more accurately articulate the studios themes of the park into an immersive world kinda angle.

Remove a possibly problematic attraction that has been showing its age for a while

Remove an underperforming attraction and serve as a connection point to better loop the park

Add in 3-4 new attractions (Monsters Inc Laugh Floor + Monsters Door Coaster)
(2 rides for Zootopia) (Could even be another land for another ride or two if you use all backstage as you said)

Retheme one of Disneys weakest restaraunts into a bold new offering that thematically ties in with a bigger franchise and serves a food type not available at this park.

Give room to possibly finally build that Muppets Great Movie Ride

If you gave the park up to me, I would probably also rip out Indiana Jones or move it somewhere better. I wouldn't want to put the amazing actors out of a job but Indiana has a much better presence than even some more deserving properties and its a giant piece of land for 1 show.

I know that I phrased it poorly but I literally said I was going to move Muppet vision and give them their own land. Why would Muppetvision be the problematic one? I was referring to RnRC due to the Steven Tyler stuff and just the general unpredictableness of using a real band with currently living members.

The OP confirmed this, but I really read the reaction here as almost baiting. I thought it was pretty clear the OP was referring to RNRC as the potentially problematic attraction. I'm sure Disney has plans to change that when they have to, but right now they don't have to.

If Muppets are going away they have multiple venues that could be used to house a new Muppets show should they choose to do so. It has been said in this thread that swapping out shows would be a lateral move from a park capacity standpoint, but that's not necessarily the case. A new show or an overhaul of an existing attraction regularly draws more people into an area than what the predecessor did. Sure, Muppets taking over RNRC wouldn't be a major shift in touring, but if a Muppets show replaced Lightning McQueen's Racing Academy, Hall of Presidents or Vacation Fun it probably would shift touring a bit.

There's probably some validity there or at least Disney probably feels Aerosmith is not ideal (and certainly isn't their own IP for cross-marketing purposes) so changing the theme for RNR seems inevitable. Especially as they already changed Paris.

That being said, while I would personally actually enjoy seeing it as Electric Mayhem, the scuttlebutt seems to be that they are eyeing an Incredibles makeover for RNR.

True. I'll never sugarcoat my obvious bias for the Muppets. While I think Muppet vision is still a great show and holds up today, just update the Waldo CG. I'm not against a new attraction. I just have zero confidence that Disney could pull it off.

I think if they wanted to keep the Rock theme two other options could be:

Phineas & Ferb
or
Powerline

Now I could go into a whole thing if we were able to remake the park from the ground up about having a version of Toontown with MMRR and Powerline together but that isn't physically feasible :/

I still think it would be cool to have one of those properties and Muppets so we don't lose the musical connection in Rock N Rollercoaster (It could even keep the name)

Incredibles is still a worthy choice imo as well as it is very poorly represented in the parks overall but I feel like theres some other places it could go that need it more.

That's probably the bigger issue here. Our confidence level of Disney to execute things well is low.

As far as I can see, Hollywood Studios is probably the most landlocked park out of the current 4.
Theres a few places you can go but a lot of it is backstage that needs to be moved somewhere and thats not cheap either.

I completely agree with this.

Part of the issue here though is we are assuming that Disney is acting differently (i.e. replacing Muppet*Vision instead of Animation Courtyard). When big decisions are made in any capacity (life, theme parks, etc) there's a practical side and an emotional side.

The emotional side here is that we don't want to see Muppet*Vision go away. In this case, you could also argue that removing Muppet*Vision is also an impractical solution and it's why we are all saying that putting it in Animation Courtyard makes more sense.

With all that said, if the choice is Muppets going away, I firmly hope that there is another shoe to drop with Animation Courtyard that would further address the capacity issues.

An argument I see a bunch around here is, they need those other expansion pads for future use. As you said, and I have said, and many others have said. The resort needs capacity and using the empty space that just sits there, would be the answer. I see a road map where everything they announced, could be built as extra capacity not replacements. Once you have built out capacity to where it needs to be, then we can talk about replacing existing attractions.

I have tried to mark below areas that are specifically considered expansion pads (or backstage areas that can be moved). It's not even including the possibility of expanding into the current parking lots, which was considered in the past. A couple of these would likely only be used if they were replacing the adjacent structures (e.g. BatB theater, IJ stunt show theater) but the footprint is larger than just to thing being replaced. Suffice to say, there can be options to expand the park. Most of these I got from @marni1971 so he can comment if I am incorrect. See for example this post.

Isn't one of those literrally just the walkway to Fantasmic, idk what kind of ride can fit there. The Star Wars spot can pretty much exclusively be used for Star Wars stuff which imo the park could use but you get my point I'm sure. Then we have the area where they have a good portion of the Indiana Jones show so we would have to scrap the last part of the show. And the backstage stuff which I agree is a good expansion plot but like I said, rebuilding offices is expensive and not immediately financially "viable"

Wow that area back behind Disney Junior is pretty huge!!! That seems like it would make the most amount of sense for expansion now. Does anyone know what that area is with the beige-ish rooftops by Showbiz Blvd and Cypress Drive?? I wonder if those can be moved as well. Marie

Its big but demolishing 3 buildings (1 huge one) and a parking garage and just "moving them" is not necessarily an easy task. I'm not 100% sure whats in that building but I'm sure atleast something in there is pretty essential to Hollywood Studios as a whole. Moving the other buildings would even further complicate this as we're basically taking all of the backstage of Hollywood Studios and moving it... somewhere?? (Would most likely have to be less than 1 mile away) so really in Disney's terms 'a few feet away'


And people called me crazy for wanting them to move Muppetvision. This project would be insanely expensive and not have any real benefits to the guest for years as I'm sure they will have to build the new buildings first, then begin tearing down these and clearing the area, THEN they can start making it presentable
