Cosmic Rewind also has great capacity and is very reliable, it has no need for the VQ, but it remains.

Yeah that’s ridiculous too. The operations of these parks post pandemic are quite questionable.
The one ride that arguably still needs to be on VQ, ROTR, isn’t.

Many speculate that Bob chappos created the VQ because if Galaxy edge were to open with less than 10 hour waits, it would have put a negative view on Disney. Due to his comments about 10 hours being a sign of failure and not a genuine sign of excitement... still one of the worst changes.
The fact you can pay admission and miss out on rides because you weren't using your phone is ludacris to me. I've never had a problem getting a VQ, but I don't think it's really a fair system. Anyone who is tech savvy enough to know how to operate thr WDW has a clear advantage to those who don't. Knowing specific drop times, using the refresh button and overall just having faster phones/technology. Even Disney's own wifi is sub par compared to 5g that is on property.
Since Splash did not have VQ before it closed, it's going to be a bit disappointing if they have a gargantuan queue like it always has, and not be able to have a normal standby wait. I guess anything to keep people about of lined and buy merch/concessions though. Definitely do miss when you could ride any new attraction and weren't bound to a digital ticket basically.

Everything you mentioned is why these attractions continue to open with VQs. Disney does not want 4 hour sprawling queues on opening day. yeah but taking away the freedom of guests is not good. If one wants to wait in a standby line they should be allowed to do so. Its all become too complicated.

There are things that should have VQs, and there are those that shouldn’t. A Splash Mountain retheme absolutely shouldn’t. Not by any stretch of the imagination. Not even if it was themed to Frozen or Lion King.

I think it's new. I've been watching the mill to see if they planned on adding some of the mossy details from the DL model. If that model is accurate to what they plan to do to WDW (and so far it has been), there's a lot more they still have left to do.

I think VQs are much better for locals/regular visitors than they are for the average Disney guest who may not be back for 5-10 years (if ever).
If the average guest really want to ride one of the VQ attractions but don't manage to get a spot, then that's it. They can't ride it unless they're willing to pay whatever the additional cost is to buy an ILL spot (assuming it also has ILL available). For locals/regular visitors, it's not a big deal because they'll have another opportunity soon. On top of that, the locals/regular visitors have a significant advantage in getting a VQ spot because they know the system.
It does look like the right side may have started being covered - I went back through my photos from yesterday and here's another look of that area.

Long lines AND virtual queues are both a failure born out of a lack of capacity at the parks as well as the damage that the Fastpass/MM+/Genie+ system has caused and continually makes worse and worse over time. Among other problems. And their solutions to fixing the lines has made things infinitely worse.
Sure was a lot of hoopla for a weather vane you can only see if you squint. I guess it's camouflaged along with the rest of the exterior. Speaking of, like the "Where's Wally/Waldo?" book series... I've been camped out here for days in a Ghillie suit and Disney hasn't found me yet!It does look like the right side may have started being covered - I went back through my photos from yesterday and here's another look of that area.

But you’re right, Disney should never discuss the small details they put into the attractions they build. Heck, no more small details should be installed ever again. No local artisans. Nada.
