News 'Disney Enchantment' coming to Magic Kingdom October 1 2021

I’m flabbergasted by the fact that Disney would hire a 3rd party vendor to develop something with Disney IP and not negotiate perpetual rights to the finished product as part of the agreement and fee schedule.

They work very, very closely with this vendor. 90% of their prominent work is for DPEP. It surprises me a little but doesn't shock me.

What's happened with Enchantment reminds me of when Cinderellabration came to MK.

It was another show tied to an anniversary celebration (another 50th) that ran for less than two years because it was never as popular as hoped. Maybe if it had been the full Tokyo show? IDK, I thought it was fine at the time, but can see why it wasn't a "must see" for many.

But the WDW 50th anniversary fireworks underperforming is definitely a more egregious failure, given Disney's track record with night time shows.

I missed it...why are they doing two shows right now? I saw the 11 PM show a couple of nights ago and it was pretty nice. It was not crowded and I walked up about 10 minutes before and found a great spot. Most people were actually still sitting through the show. It was really nice. I much prefer HEA but it seems to me they have really been stepping up the fireworks quality of this show recently. It was really pretty great on that day for some reason and I was actually feeling wow-ed by the end.

It’s presumed to be due to the late decision to have parties this year and the need to use the shells they already ordered. Also, it’s presumed that Enchanted is leaving Spring 2023.

Why go through such lengths to replace a show with such high scores with an inexperienced in house team? I really am perplexed.

In house made a good name for themselves - I want to say with Epcots 30th tag and the first SWAGS - and were thus given bigger projects

Completely agree. Personally, I'd love a classic castle show like Wishes or Fantasy. But if we're going to have projections (and they seem committed), I'd at least rather them done right.

We’ve been watching a lot of Momentous recently. We feel the projections work better since they’re much more uncluttered. One, maybe two areas of interest that draws the eye with the majority of the rest being relatively static decoration. None of the overkill of HEA.

I felt like Momentous also used the shape of the castle well - which I think HEA did better than Enchantment (but this was even better) ... Take advantage of the shape rather than just try to make it a screen for random images

I agree but Enchantment leaves a lot to be desired and still feels like a step backwards. Though my issues with Enchantment are actually not the projections or even the pyro but the storyline and score.

I do think if they had more time, they could produce a show as good as (if not better than) HEA. There are some really impressive moments in DE but there is so much evidence of being rushed beyond those moments. Which is why I'd like to see HEA return temporarily while they give it another go.

Right which makes me wonder if, despite the scores, DE has enough runway to get them to the next show (which AFAIK isn't even being planned yet). Feels like an awfully long time to run a fairly unpopular show at their most visited park.

I dare say it does. Or at least to its replacement. Guest gets fireworks. Guest is happy with that. Just don’t ask them about it.

Haha I mean technically that would be consistent with the last bit of info that I was given (re: it's not good enough but we're not spending more money). I just figured that meant they'd bring back the fan favorite for a limited time. They do have a unique opportunity/out here and can explain it away with the 50th celebration ending.

I am apparently in a significant minority, but I thought the projections actually detracted from HEA in places. Not because they weren't well done, but because you can't really watch the projections and also watch the fireworks at the same time. It's not an issue if the projections are basically just background, but in HEA they often had actual characters moment etc. happening via projections while fireworks were also going off.

I'd have preferred projections interspersed with fireworks instead of having everything happening all at once. For locals who see the show regularly it doesn't really matter, but most Disney guests aren't going to see the show more than once or twice over several years.

I actually think Disney Enchantment actually does this well in a lot of scenes. But there are too many sloppy/rushed scenes (and those scenes often don't match the design style of the rest of the show). I do think the in house team has what it takes but they just needed more time on all accounts.

Has this been confirmed? I actually hadn't thought to ask about this. I assumed it was a test in preparation for new operations procedure when two shows will be performed during MNSSHP.
