Zootopia at Animal Kingdom?

Look I don't know who you are or who your sources are. I've been on the boards for a very long time and don't think you've ever been a trusted insider. Not saying you're wrong but I won't believe everything I read on the internet. Maybe zootopia is proposed for a DAK expansion but I don't have enough evidence at this point to say that it is actually being considered within WDI.

As for degrees of difference. It's a slippery slope and in this case more than just a few degrees. Look what a few degrees here and there has done for MK and Epcot. I would still argue that Zootopia at Animal kingdom is just as bad if not worse than frozen in Epcot.

Absolutely everyone needs to filter what they here ... no hard feelings.

What stage of development was that?

I am sure that with every hit movie that comes out that there are imagineers, execs, marketers, and everyone in a Disney office spit-balling rides, attractions, and whole lands for that IP. They're all looking for that next big thing and to utilize the big things that fall in their laps.

So, someone proposing Zootopialand for DAK? Sure. I 100% believed that happened. And I'm sure they had the same arguments here whether it belonged here or DHS or MK. And then they argued whether to move ahead with a formal proposal.

That doesn't mean at all that there "were plans" for a Zootopialand in DAK... unless someone says they saw the concept art or a preliminary layout of the land, or a spec sheet for the type of attractions. If it doesn't get to that point, I don't consider it as being considered.

There are hundreds and hundreds of blue-sky spit-balls thrown around. Can't count them all as "there were plans to do X"... unless it actual got to an action phase.

So... did the proposal for Zootopia in DAK that you heard about ever get to an action phase?

So the project scope was for Zootopia in DAK is as a long term proposal knowing they would need something in 10+ years. They are to my knowledge still on drawing up concepts of what the the land would contain. Not everything goes blue though. Who knows it may of been something put out to hunt for leaks. No hard feelings.

The underlying themes of Disney's Animal Kingdom are as follows:

  • The intrinsic and superior value of nature - this means that nature, above all else is at the forefront of the design. This leads to parts of the park being out of their true control (live animals, overgrown pathways, etc.).
  • Transformation through adventure - this idea is that adventure changes people when they experience something they've never experienced before.
  • Personal call to action - a sense of responsibility for the animals and the conservation message.
I'm not sure how Zootopia fits into those themes other than maybe the middle one.

What support do you have for those listed statements as being accurate descriptions of the 'underlying themes' of Animal Kingdom? All I find when searching for those exact words is this site which claims Joe Rohde said those words or something equivalent to those words and that they were "values for Disney's Animal Kingdom that led them through the design process and story telling in the park". That seems pretty similar to the idea of 'underlying themes' for the park. It doesn't seem to be clear to me if they are claiming the words are exact quotations however. :

And for the record the park has a mission statement and no it is not the same as the dedication.

What is this mission statement that you are referring to that is different from what is on the dedication sign? I've looked for a little while and nothing easily came up that was described as an official mission statement that I could read. The only things I found that are like a mission statement is the dedication sign and this ebay listing which apparently claims to have some sort of text that is a mission statement at least somehow related to Animal Kingdom:

Edit:
The font of the green lettering on the 'PAWS- -agram' shown on a piece of paper in the ebay listing seems reminiscent to me of the Zootopia's font for the movie's name. There's a similarity in the curve of the letter P and how the letter T has the upper line of it above the letters next to it.

Thank you for your help by linking that.

I realize you aren't the same person who originally posted the list of "The intrinsic and superior value of nature", "Transformation through adventure", and "Personal call to action"; but I wanted to comment here that Joe Rohde doesn't seem to at least explicitly mention "a sense of responsibility for the animals and the conservation message" as being related to the idea of "personal call to action' in this video.

Congratulations! You found my website.

Joe Rohde has stated those three themes for Disney's Animal Kingdom in various public appearances. Most recently he stated the three themes in Pandora videos, but he has definitely discussed the intrinsic value of nature well before Pandora.

There were no good quotes to fully explain what each of the three themes meant so I bolded the themes themselves and attempted to explain them on my site.

We're concerned about Zootopia violating the mission statement of Animal Kingdom when Dinoland USA exists?
Dinorama's a violation from being an entirely inauthentic way to do a roadside dinosaur attraction, but the rest of Dinoland is perfectly fine. I'm pretty sure making us think about mass extinction by having us directly confronting the most iconic one would quality under "Transformation through adventure".

That is a very good description and interpretation... The Chester and Hester area was merely an add on for capacity...not a standalone new area like Zootopia could be...That said, an animal-centric cityscape seems so completely wrong for the whole timbre of the park... I would rather see Moto Nui with creatures from the islands of the Pacific Rim, a beautiful reef and tidal shoals exhibit,Exhibits explaining animal migration through the Pacific Islands and then a E ticket Moana attraction... It would look beautiful and natural and a better all around fit for the Animal Kingdom than Zootopia...remember DAK is Nahtazoo!

Moana! So that's either AK or Adventureland. #Confirmed! :D
For lack of a better AK thread:

Joe Rohde just posted on Instagram about the importance of field research for designing the parks and then immediately followed with a second post that he is going to Bali.

Edit: Looks like he was in Orlando the past few days too.

I'm pretty sure Joe posted a while back about this trip being a vacation between project cycles.

In reference to Rohde being in Bali? What would Bali have to do with Moana?
I don't see the connection either. While Bali is by far the most beautiful place I've ever been (and I used to live on Kauai) I can't see how it relates to Moana. I could see a connection to a Indonesian/Thailand/Bali Pavilion at Epcot maybe.

Oh man.....that looks unbearable..... he's really going to be "roughing it" on this trip.. having experienced the horror of it myself, I feel bad for him.

I'm referring to the second pic of Spirit airplane.....
