Your feelings on flash photography

The rule is in place because it ruins the show for other guests. The effects on dark rides don't work well without darkness, hence the term "dark ride".

The worst place for flash pictures is The Great Movie Ride because it actually could be dangerous for our performers. When we are up at Anubus, that's a story up at least. A poorly timed flash picture could blind the tour guide, causing them to fall down the stairs. Nobody wants that to happen, so don't take flash pictures, especially on GMR!

Never been on the GMR actually, but I do plan on going in December! I honestly don't normally take flash photos on dark rides. This was the one time I did and obviously I shouldn't do it again, even if the ride is empty

Well, when you go if you see a really tall young man named Chris, request his show. I hear it's very good...

I hate it. It's incredibly rude, stupid and disruptive. Sadly, Disney CM's are just as much to blame since they don't have the guts to report these people. And believe me, they know who they are. There are more cameras on rides at Disney than at any casino in Las Vegas.

Totally alone with empty cars/boats for as far as needed both ways? Tempting.

Whilst a normal ride with other guests? Deserves flogging.

Agreed. Flash not only kills the magic, it is annoying and also mutes out all of the details in the attraction. Because flash kills details, I would wait until you get like 5 or 10 seconds of a ride vehicle being still and use a low light setting.

Just an aside real quick, I've never understood the obsessive need for tourists/guests to photograph EVERYTHING. I literally watched "Wishes" one time where a gentleman stood there with his point-n-shoot camera and took a photo every 10 seconds, staring endlessly though the digital viewfinder. I wanted to say to him, "Really buddy? Are you ever really going to go back and look at photos of fireworks?" I also don't understand why people think they that flash-lit photos of Main Street Electrical Parade/SpectroMagic will EVER come out...they don't look good! Go download some photos on the internet! And photos of the dark rides never look good either, folks need to learn that. They always look fake or cheap, never as good as real life. Especially in Pirates of the Caribbean, sheesh.

That having been said, I am whole-heartedly against flash pictures on dark rides. It does ruin the experience with an unnecessary eyesore and sometimes it exposes "hidden" parts of the attraction like wires or something. I can't stand it. Sure, take all the flash pictures you want on Small World, but put that camera away on the likes of Pirates, Tower of Terror and Haunted Mansion!

What bothers me the most about it is people breaking rules. The rules are laid out very clearly. NO FLASH PHOTOGRAPHY. So that means... NO FLASH PHOTOGRAPHY. End of story. Why some people think they are above the rules and should be able to do things other can't is beyond me. NO they are not guidelines. They are the rules. The people who ignore the rules need to stop thinking they are above them and that the rules don't APPLY to them. Whether you agree with them or not, they are stated on these rides for a reason!! I have ZERO tolerance for people who think they are better than everyone else.

I for one am totally not a fan and think it is inconsiderate of those that choose to take flashes. I know several people, myself included go and have gone to the parks more than once. I get that. And so for some, the experience may not be as new and fresh. But I know several people who do go for their first time and so it is a new experience to them. And I would hate to think that I would ruin the first time riders experience. My sister actually had someone ask her to stop taking pictures on Pirates and while she mumbled a bit, she gladly put it a way not realizing just how annoying it was.

Because they just don't care. Same thing as people walking through the parks smoking in undesignated areas.

The sad thing is, when you start telling these people they're not supposed to do it and it's distracting, they pretend they don't hear you and keep on doing it.

Better yet, laugh at those who take flash photos of fireworks, or through glass.

Almost as bad as a flash photo is the curse of the LCD screen. Perish the thought of someone videoing SSE with an iPad.

Ah yes the smokers who go wherever they want. Don't get me started. Sadly we invited my crazy grandma years ago who is a big smoker. We made it very clear to her about the smoking guidelines but she still said she wanted to go and she would follow the rules. NOT. She was busted several times. There were a handful of times we even found cigarette butts floating in the toilet. Needless to say she has not been invited back. ;)

I try my best to ignore the rule breakers, but not to quote Captain America or anything "I just don't like bully's."

I agree with flavious27. A flash photo ruins the scene, both for those on the ride and for those who look at the pictures later. It takes away all the magic - whether at Disney or at home in front of your Christmas tree!

However, I'm a scrapbooker and I "get" the desire to want to document everything. I wish Disney would sell a selection of interior ride photos, shot by a professional with proper lighting (and someone not on a moving ride vehicle!) Perhaps similar to the postcard "books" they sell?

Plus, not that the regular day guest knows this, but AAs aren't designed to be seen under a flood of light. Their makeup and paint is laid on to look correct under specific show lighting. Lit by flash they can look rather ill.

I don't like pictures of washed out deer in the headlights animatronics, so I don't understand why people want to do this in the first place. So no I don't like it, it's rude especially after being told not to. But I find people who text or use their phones for whatever reason on dark rides to be equally if not more irritating.

I have used the flash before on Haunted Mansion during the off season only after seeing no others near by Doom Buggy but have learned that it bothers others enjoyment. I was able to see more detail but will not be using it again . I am not defending using it just stating that some do not realize it bothers others enjoyment. I know there was no others near because it was only myself and 3 others in the stretching room , and since I was with the 3 others I thought it was ok

Too many people these days have cameras and have no idea how to use them. Like what's already been stated, there is nothing more idiotic than standing on Main Street taking flash pictures of fireworks. o_O

Flash in the rides is obnoxious and pointless. The ride scenes are lit a certain way for a reason. If you light them up with flash, your picture is going to look like crap. What do you need those pictures for anyway? Disney sells all kinds of pictorial books that have pictures of the ride scenes. You can't "re-live" the ride by looking at pictures of it. Why not just ride it while you're there instead of planting your face behind a camera?

Some of the things I see people taking pictures of really cracks me up, such as taking pictures of EVERY SINGLE animatronic animal on Jungle Cruise. Really?? You need 200 pictures of robot animals? I'm sure your family and friends are dying to check those out when you get back.

I feel like Disney should produce a guide for people, like the parks maps, that give people the basics. This would give them better photos, and prevent them from annoying others. I notice that Kilimanjaro drivers now mention to use sport mode.
