That must have been a wonderful feeling.:)
Hopefully things are starting to get back to normal for you.
It was wierd. I've become accustomed to different beds now:( Plus, I am the only one with a bedroom in the house that is liveable, so I was all alone in an empty house with NO noise. You may think that every house is quiet at night, but that isn't true. Refrigerators, Computers, etc. add some sound.

I know that silence.

When Florida got hit with the 'canes back in '04, we didn't have power for two weeks. The silence was almost unbearable. It's hard to explain to people who haven't experienced it before. I didn't like it. No fun.

Being a lone in a de-electrified house at night would scare me to death.

It is quite maddening; however, it has no effect on me because we all know that I am quite mad anyway.:lookaroun

Have you tried some expanding foam ear plugs?

I've sometimes used them when an alarm is going for hours at night. If they can sort a shop siren then they should also stop a fridge.
