The Viking Ship served a lot of purposes. It matched the theming of the area, looked great, and provided the only playground-like spot in Epcot for little kids. I remember the boys climbing all over it while we waited to be seated at Akershus. It was a nice diversion, and it's a shame it's gone.

I miss it, but as was said before, once they stopped using it as a play area, it really went downhill

It needed to be removed, before it fell apart. It would be nice if it was replaced with something more thematic though

I know it just sat there but it really added to the theming. And it was a nice photo for many people. It's really a shame. So is the reason they removed it because it was unsafe for children? Is this true?

That's a shame. Did the viking ship ever have a name? If not, maybe we at WDWmagic should give it a name. Maybe that's why it's gone. It's bad luck to have a ship with out a name. :ROFLOL:

I'm sad to see it go. It was a great place to take a break with kids. My son was very disappointed when it was no longer open for play--and so were his parents! Aside from the play factor, it was a great bit of theming in that area and well done. RIP
