It's all a matter of personal preference - there are people who wouldn't want to go if they couldn't stay Deluxe, and there are people who'd sleep anywhere they could just to be there. I fall into the second category, because for me, it's all about being at the parks. The resort is a place for me to sleep and occasionally swim. I enjoy visiting the Deluxe resorts, exploring and having dinner there, etc. I totally understand that there are people who want that Deluxe experience and want to spend a lot of time enjoying the resort, and I also understand that what works for one family may not work for another.

We actually just decided to switch the time we had planned for the Boardwalk in January to AoA, because we realized that with all the money we would save, we could literally do ANOTHER trip to WDW. So we switched, and we booked the bonus trip, and I couldn't be happier. If we happen to have extra $$ when the original trip gets closer, maybe I'll surprise my DH with a night or two at The Boardwalk, but if not, I'm totally happy just being there.

Happy planning whatever you decide! After last time, you deserve the most magical vacation possible! :)

Britt, I was in that position in 2010. Money was a bit tighter than usual, so I stayed at a value and made it a shorter trip. I did not enjoy that trip very much. I'm sure the value resorts are fine for most, but Pop didn't suit me at all. Personally, I would rather skip a year than stay at a value.

Yep I agree...Id look at the discount season and wait...Id also look at renting points from DVC..you can get some great last minute deals at $8.00 a point if you have the ability to be flexible

...being "fexible" being a key word there.

i would go ahead and go now before Dec. 21, because the world is gonna end. ;) But in all seriousness, do you really spend that much time at the resort? I say go 2013.

Please don't go expecting a huge gorgeous hotel, at least not room wise. It is a pitifully small room, with absolutely no furniture other then a bed, no chair, no table and you have to step outside to change your mind. I asked for a frig. ($10.00 per day at the time), the only place they could put it was right at the entrance. The door to the room would only open about 3/4 of the way and the Frig. hardly held anything. I have never been to a moderate or a just leave your wallet with us, we'll take care of it, type resort. I have stayed off-site with rooms twice the size, tables, chairs, easy chair, microwave and frig. at a cost of half the price of a value (at the time). Oh, and besides that, the TV got around 50 channels instead of the 12 or so that Disney decided to authorize. Sorry, but I am not a big, on-site promoter. I know that many love it and wouldn't go any other way. I have a sister and a daughter that have that particular affliction, but what I have said is fact. My liking it better off site, I realize is my opinion.:)

Are you talking about the Pop? If you do, you should know that a lot of your informations are either plain wrong or heavily outdated.
Pop rooms are equipped with two chairs and a table, the TV set features about 40 TV channels (not counting the WDW resort channels).
A refrigerator was standard in all our pop rooms during our last three stays without additional costs and it's located in the chest of drawers in front of the bed.

Personally, I would rather wait until I could take a trip I would enjoy, rather than rush in and take a trip I would possibly have regrets about or feel like I had to count every penny in my pocket the whole time I was there. I've taken a few trips like that, and although I had fun (hey, it's Disney!), looking back in retrospect, saving up and waiting a little longer for a "better" vacation would have been a wiser choice for me. I would personally love to go to Disney several times a year, but my budget only allows me to go once every few years. It's so hard to wait between trips, but the waiting makes the trips so much more enjoyable when the time finally comes. Good luck with whatever you ultimately decide.

Not when I stayed there in 2009. Won't ever go back so I will take your word for it. They would have to be foolish to not upgrade things there...it was the most uncomfortable stay I have ever had in all my trips to Florida. And yes it was POP. I never put in a complaint because, well, it was what it was. They never promised me a rose garden.

Maybe it's the way I was raised, but the hotels for me were always more of a place to sleep. When I'm at the World I usually spend Park Open to Park Close at the parks... rarely do we use the pools and additional services provided at the resorts (actually probably moreso now than when I was growing up!). So I'm partial to going value and getting to enjoy your vaca sooner :p

Since this is exactly what we did this year, cancelled our June trip to BC because money was tight. My husband enjoys staying in walking distance to Epcot & HS. Ok what I really mean is he hates going to Disney but will only go if he can stay close so he can walk to Epcot & HS. Sometimes it's hard being married to someone who doesn't like WDW.

Frankly, I see no need for that person to even continue to exist! Just kidding, I'm sure he has many redeeming qualities. :D

That figures. Our first stay at the Pop was in 2010 and when we checked in the CMs at check-in told us that we get a room in the seventies (Not a preferred room, although they offered us a free upgrade, we like it quiet) area which was refurbished only a short time ago. The stay was so good, before we changed to the Poly for the last 5 days, that the Pop became or favorite value. Actually in some topics it was (back in 2010) superior to the Poly, the AC was quiet compared to the rather annoying loud AC in our Poly room (Fiji if any one wants to know). AC noise level is important to us so we returned to the Pop in 2010, but not the Poly, although we loved everything in the Poly except the rooms.

I just went through this. I had the same choices. I ended up going to a value and went within a year of my last visit. I really like staying at POFQ, but all we really do is sleep there. However, that being said, if I had the money I would stay there instead of a value resort. But I am like most people and have to save between trips.

To sum it up: I will save for my next trip and plan on staying at a value.

Yes the moderates are nice but really how much time is spent in the room. If you are intending to have time dedicated to "resort/non park" time then it's personal preference for atmosphere, room size, resort services, etc.

I'd stay moderate if given the choice. I would have this trip but upgraded to CSR due to the free meal plan that had been offered since I had already intended on paying for that option. Do the math with the various offers for the time of year that you are intending. I upgraded to moderate and added 2 more days to our stay and ended up getting $66.00 back loosing nothing.
