I had a choice of either going this year on a low budget, or next year on our normal budget. I've chose to go next year.
That's where I'm at...we're taking ALL extra money and paying off our car a few years early, so we could go on a low budget, ooooor, wait for 2014 and go on our normal one.

*sigh* I suppose y'all are going to have to satisfy my Disney cravings for the next 18-20 months!

I'd stay at a value. I actually really like the Pop. I like staying at Mods or a Deluxe too but with the amount of time we actually spend at a resort the Pop suits us just fine.

I guess I'd wait.

But, honestly, I'd go offsite and get more for less money. If money is ever a consideration, offsite is the way to go, IMO.

I do totally get people wanting to stay in WDW hotels, though. I'm not slamming that! I was like that, too, once upon a time. :) If you'd rather save up or do a cheaper WDW vacation and stay in the WDW hotels, good for you. :)

i gotta admit, i probably would be waiting a lot longer until my trip in jan if i didn't have the benefits of military priced admission and a insanely good rate to stay at shades of green. and that would have probably ended up me staying at a value resort or off site at a later date. you could always go less expensive on the hotel and splurge else where on your trip. while its not necessarily going crazy spending, i got a few ADRs that'll have me spending a few bucks. i'm more of a ride junkie and wanting to see everything. so i sort of graze smaller food spots and eat one sit down meal a day at the parks. i'm not huge on souvenirs, i usually find one thing that i love and get it. so my expenses aren't quite like most ppl, especially with kids that i imagine want more souvenirs bc they're everywhere!

i know going with my step son for his first trip will be pricey. it'll probably be a week-10 days long (to get universal in there) and we'll do photopass+ and he'll want mouse ears and everything else a lil kid could want when we go. it'll worth it, but it'll be pricey and i want to do it right so we'll save.

on a sidenote, while i know they are suites for the themed rooms at AoA (non-little mermaid), i wouldn't call the rates 'value' necessarily. i don't know if anyone thought the same on that.

Boyfriend and I are doing a really short notice trip (we decided at the end of September we'd be going the first week of December) so we're staying at Pop Century. Last time I was in Disney I stayed at Old Key West (I was with a friend) and last time my boyfriend and I stayed anywhere it was a huge gorgeous hotel, so I don't know how this will compare. In all reality, we won't be spending much time in our room so to us it doesn't really matter. Most of our time will be spent in the parks so why worry about spending a ton of money we don't have on a room we won't be spending much time in?

Well, I know it's not an option, but I'd stay at a moderate resort and not buy many souvenirs, and eat mainly at QS locations (one or two sit-down restaurants for a week). Of course, this is what I do all the time, but it works and it makes me happy!

Answering your question with one of the choices given, I'd go with the Value resort. I need my Disney fix. I'm dying after seven months of no Disney. I couldn't wait another year and a half.

For us it's cheaper to do a MOD than a value ( 2 rooms verses 1 at PORS). That said.. Id rather stay at a value..and go more often in that scenario.

Personally I would save my money and still stay at a value resort. Your going to be spending most of your time at the parks and it will give an extra 50-125 dollars more a day in spending money. Would you rather stay at a nicer hotel to sleep or eat at a nice sit down restaurant in Epcot each night? It's all personal preference so what ever you do make sure it's whatever fits your wants and needs.

Staying at a value is NOT a tight budget for some people..And I happen to go in 2013 thank you...As I sacrificed this year as I knew nothing was to happen this year.

Go to WDW on a super tight budget, staying in a Value resort, to be there a year earlier (2013)? Or save up that money and stay in a Mod/Deluxe, but wait an extra year.....(2014)?
value. I have young kids, and I don't want to skip a year, because each year they are totally different kids! But, if I did not have the kids, it would probably be deluxe and wait a year!

Have you ever stayed at a value before? I would probably lean towards taking the value trip then, just so you can say you did. You might even like it! Unless you had some absolute worst case scenario, I don't think it would ruin your trip; you would just know you were a mod/deluxe family for the future.

For me personally, I love the values. Well, I love Pop and would probably love AoA, too. I always entertain the idea of a mod or deluxe trip, but when you look at the actual amount of extra money it takes... I just can't do it! I'd rather spend the money making the rest of my trip more awesome or going more frequently.

Right now, if I was stuck on a budget, I'd go for mod/deluxe in 2014, and try to use a glass half full appraoch in the sense that for the next year, I'll have my Disney trip to look forward to. If I went now, then I'll have a blast but then I'll have nothing to look forward to. Plus, going in 2014 I'll have the benefit of a mod/deluxe, plus the opening of all of the New Fantasyland, rather than just half of it!

i would go value and go twice. Like others have said a bed is a bed. I spend all my time at parks so to me it doesn't matter. I want to be there. I once drove 22 hours each way with 3 kids to DL for a 2 day opportunity. We spent more time in the car then the parks. My son was going that way for a convention and the car was going so why not? We always stay value or off site. It enables us to do more trips and do more in the parks.

Most of the All Star rooms are in rough shape as in being very dated, but their clean, safe, and your on Disney property so IMO you can't go wrong if the price is right.

Please don't go expecting a huge gorgeous hotel, at least not room wise. It is a pitifully small room, with absolutely no furniture other then a bed, no chair, no table and you have to step outside to change your mind. I asked for a frig. ($10.00 per day at the time), the only place they could put it was right at the entrance. The door to the room would only open about 3/4 of the way and the Frig. hardly held anything. I have never been to a moderate or a just leave your wallet with us, we'll take care of it, type resort. I have stayed off-site with rooms twice the size, tables, chairs, easy chair, microwave and frig. at a cost of half the price of a value (at the time). Oh, and besides that, the TV got around 50 channels instead of the 12 or so that Disney decided to authorize. Sorry, but I am not a big, on-site promoter. I know that many love it and wouldn't go any other way. I have a sister and a daughter that have that particular affliction, but what I have said is fact. My liking it better off site, I realize is my opinion.:)

I definitely don't expect it to be a fancy hotel or anything, my point was simply that I've never been to the value resort before but even if it is small it's not a big deal because we won't be spending all that much time in the room anyways. I personally would rather stay on site simply for the convenience of everything being right there, and Disney goes above and beyond to make you happy if you have any issues. We have a mini fridge and microwave in our room, wifi, TV, and then some, so I'm not too worried about it.
