Would Spectro Magic ever be able to live up to the Electrical Parade?

The `new` MSEP is nice, but Spectro plays a story out so well for a parade. Wait for the new Spectro....

There again, TDLs Dreamlights wipes MSEP. As does Fantillusion.

Ditto. Besides the 80s music, MSEP, to me was just a bunch of lit floats. Nothing connected them. The last float really seemed tossed in. Spectro feels like Disney. it has the magic, the wonder, the awe, all of it. MSEP is just okay. Don't assume everyone loves MSEP. It's probably a good 55/45 split(favoring spectro hee hee)
THIS !!!:sohappy:

floats with lights on them. thats what both parades boil down to. and both are great parades but it's the music that sets them apart for each person. It's nostalgia. If you remember the first MSEPand fell in love with the music then you're happy to see it return. But if you love the music of Spectro then you're more into Spectro.

It's all personal preference. One parade isn't better than the other in any way except for perception of the individual. I personally enjoy Spectro due to the music and lyrics vs. the MSEP score. I like both but prefer Spectro.

I enjoy SpectroMagic and MSEP for two different reasons. MSEP is fun. SpectroMagic is elegant.

The version of MSEP that plays at the MK right now is NOTHING like the original MK MSEP....the soundtrack, while updated, still lacks the some of the groovy nostalgia factor of the 70s, there are some floats missing from the parade, and since the MSEP is going to be at the MK for a while....they really can't take time to change the drum and say "MAIN STREET ELECTRICAL PARADE" vs Disney's electrical parade?

I would like to see Spectro return with some new floats. As for MSEP, yeah it's still fun, but since we're borrowing Disneyland's floats and the parade isn't even in it's full form...they can have it back whenever they want, I'm growing tired of it.

it's not that they didn't have the time to change the text on the drum, since the parade is on loan from California, they needed their OK to Change it. considering there is no plan right now to bring it back to California i'm very surprised they didn't get permission to make the change.

I enjoy Spectro they have so much excitement such as the villain float and so many adorable moments like the Chip and Dale piano.

I agree with the poster who said that it all boils down to floats with lights, what seperates them is the music, and spectro wins for it's elegant music, hands down!

MSEP'S music is corny, dated, and too repetitive. Spectro's music is timeless, enchanting and elegant.

My vote goes for spectro, the floats were better, the music was better, it had a better story. Spectro wins in my book.

Im not gonna lie, Spectro Magic is my favorite. I do think the Electrical Parade in a way could beat it in popularity and it seems a little more organized but Spectro magic for me is an old memory that grows each time I see it. Its great to see something new come around the bend and I watched it as much as I could knowing I might not see it for another 10 years but I am going to miss Spectro Magic after a while. I am really going to miss the Alice in Wonderland floats, my sister loves that bee LOL. Really I think Spectro Magic is much better, I am more worried that the Electrical Parade fan base is going to kill Spectro Magic. The Spectro Magic finale is pretty much the Electrical Parade crammed together.

Spectro rules, MSEP drools. Specto a +10, MSEP a -10.

What other opinion would you expect from someone who can't even spell pioneer?

...Funny, having seen both parades multitudes of times....I have never recalled seeing such excitement by the average guest for Spectro as I have witness for MSEP....so I am not sure if your Drools" comment works for me.

Here we go again...my favorite debate. Ha ha ha! To the OP, I have to disagree that the "new" music is no way better than the original, but the parade is still much better than Spectro.

Will Spectro live up to the magic of MSEP? To some, sure, they will always think it's better. But to the average park guest? Maybe. In my experience, the crowd ALWAYS claps along and cheers as the MSEP goes by, something I've never seen with Spectro. I mean, people are RAVENOUS about MSEP in a way that I've never seen with SpectroMagic. (I'm one of those Ravenous MSEP :))

Musically, it's like comparing apples and oranges. There will be those that prefer the grand, symphonic score of Spectro, and there will be those that prefer the bouncy, classic and bright synthemagnetic musical score of MSEP. So neither parade "wins" in that category.

So....Visually speaking, MSEP is far better looking than SpectroMagic was when it left last summer. I don't think this can really be debated. THe lights just look FANTASTIC. If and when Spectro does return (and I hope it does at some point), I'd hope they would completely refurb. the floats for Spectro for the grand return that so many feel it deserves.

This poster is on the mark.

Then why is it that nearly everyone I know who loves it has been a fan of it for two decades or more?

I spoke to several guests on my trip in August who were visiting primarily to see MSEP's return. It wasn't new to them.

Yep, my family went to see it on the official opening night... old favorite for me from all the way back to the 70s....was new for my wife and children.... all stated they liked MSEP better than Spectro....even though we also like Spectro....

I didn't know Spectromagic wasn't as good as MSEP..

This is big news to me.

Well now you cannot say that, no?

MSEP'S music is corny, dated, and too repetitive. Spectro's music is timeless, enchanting and elegant.

I am glad to hear all the positive comments about Spectro Magic. I was getting a bit scared fir a while reading all the posts supporting the Electrical Parade. I do think that the Electrical parade has is better in its own ways. It is the original parade but then an original parade should be at the original theme park. I do like the fact that both parks don't have an identical parades, then disney would feel more like a busyness then a masterpiece. I do hope the Electrical Parade is back in California on time for my first visit there ever.

I'm partial to Spectro Magic, because I've seen it everytime in my last four visits to Disney and have enjoyed it everytime. But I've have also seen the MSEP only on YouTube and was like, "Really they are bringing this thing back?" I know it may not be the best comparison, but between Live and watching things on YouTube, I can still easily tell if I'm going like something or not. It my POV I just feel MSEP lacks alot of excitement Spectro Magic can evoke.

After seeing the Electrical Parade Spectro Magic looks like a joke to me. Now I like the both the same and Spectro has more of a special place in my heart but out of live I want the best for it. Yeah it has great memories for me and I have seen it many more times but the Electrical Parade is way better. The music is great and the new version has an amazing full sound which the old version lacked. I know I sound like an Eisner enthusiast but I really like the new music. It's a memories but Disney has my blessings, I got tired of Spectro Magic from over watching it 3 years ago. All I ask is that they keep the same music and my 2 favorite floats.

See I'm the exact opposite. Even to this day i LOVE Spectro Magic and the music which accompanies it. I honestly don't see how anyone can enjoy the MSEP soundtrack over Spectro...but that's just my opinion

like what? msep's music is like small world's music.. its just the same notes over and over again.. spectro is classy its elegant, its a little more complex... some people get so offended if anyone disagrees with their love for msep. MSEP was supposed to be here for summer nighttastic, summer has been over for 7 months now,its time to kick it out and bring back spectro

done to death

This debate kills me every time. So fun to read everyone's opinions, many of them posted as fact.

Anyway, I saw MSEP in June, was very excited to see it, as I had never seen it before, even went opening weekend. Disliked it immensely. I couldn't have been more bored or disappointed. I despised the music, thought the floats were unimpressive and just generally didn't connect with the theme of the parade. My wife was equally unimpressed. My opinion of MSEP is that it could be packed up tomorrow and I wouldn't give a hoot if it ever came back. Opinion only mind you.

I was never so happy that the holiday parade was in its place when we went in November.

Always enjoyed Spectro. Always went to see it. Count me in the Spectro camp.

BTW debating between the two is like debating between any two pieces of art. It just isn't debatable because there is no "facts" to substantiate arguments. Size of floats? Number of lights? Nope that's like saying a bigger brighter painting is better than a smaller one based solely on size and colours alone. You might believe it true for yourself, but it isn't fact.

It may be true that if a study were done popular opinion would place one parade in front of another as far as which parade is more popular but to the best of my knowledge that poll doesn't exist. BTW the representation of a disney forum would be skewed heavily and would not necessarily be representative of "regular" guests. Simply put we here have more history and greater expectation than most people. We care about things like continuity and tradition when average guests are gleefully unaware of such things. Perhaps if I hadn't fallen in love with Spectro, MSEP wouldn't have disappointed me so much, and perhaps if I weren't so excited to see MSEP my expectations would have been lower and I would have enjoyed it more, but alas, I can't change who I am and the makeup of my experiences.

I like them both. You don't have to choose one to the exclusion of the other. They are both great night parades.

Fantasy in the Sky was a great fireworks show. Wishes is a great fireworks show and very different. Liking one doesn't mean you have to dislike the other, unless you are just wired that way.

There are elements of both parades that are very memorable and would be awesome to preserve if a new and different parade is announced in the future.

As for the music making you bop along . . . well only one is by definition a hoedown!

I do not get offended! :) I do disagree with your point that the music is the same notes over and over again...it is more like the EPCOT Entrance music in that it has different tunes connected by a common tune in between each.... I find the MSEP music enjoyable..... and while I do enjoy the music from Specto, I do prefer the MSEP music.....

It has always been interesting to me that WDW cannot accomodate more than one night parade..... One parade could run at DHS or something.
