Would a thrill ride 5th gate spell the end to Universal?

EXACTAMENTE! That is what we need. More and better major attractions in the existing parks. More attractions in DAK. Refurbished attractions in EPCOT-FW and more rides and new pavilions in WS. 2 or 3 new E-Tickets in MK and an Indiana-Jones-Adventure in DHS for a start. No new theme park especially not one that is so undisneyish as a pure thrill ride park. There are thrill rides like ToT and they function a lot better being immersed in the disney-experiences the existing parks offer.

If WDW can create rides like Everest, Tower of Terror and Mission: Space I can't even imagine what they can dream up for a thrill park. I think a 5th gate thrill park will be cool. But they should just add some more rides and lands to the 4 parks they already have. When you think about it DHS is kind of a small thrill park, maybe they should add more thrills to that park.
In the current climate, a 5th gate would be awful. The price for a great park would be far too much - remember each of the attractions listed above were $100m+. For example, DCA in total cost was $600m - and that was everything from ride vehicles to sewer pipes.

Why does everyone insist that Universal is strictly thrill parks? They have a few coasters, so what? Does that really mean that the park is all thrill rides? They also have Shrek, Jimmy Neutron, ET Adventure, T2, Twister, Disaster, Cat in the Hat, Storm Force, Pteranodon Flyers, Seuss Trolly Train Ride, 1 fish 2 fish, Simpsons, spiderman, & MIB. Most of which Disney has a similar attraction. Now tell me Universal is strictly a thrill park.
BTW. I would consider DHS, the park which caters to the thrill crowd, with TOT, and RNRC. They should just continue expanding that and DAK before a 5th gate opens.

It is kind of hard to argue that IoA is a thrill ride park...Dueling dragons, hulk, Dr. Doom...They have definitely put IoA in a different light than US

I don't think what Disney needs is another park anytime soon. Once they get all of their current parks up to Disneyland standard, then they can think about something else!

I dont think a 5th gate would have any big effect on universal. Like someone else said, people will just spend less time in the parks to make time for the new one. Personally I think a 5th gate, villain, thrill or anything else, is just a bad idea. The money is more than needed in the other parks for additions and refurbishments before anything else.

Lets put it this way. A fifth gate let alone a pure thrill park is something Disney would never do. Disney is meant to create joy to all ages not just one age group for example pleasure island is bye bye.

I still believe there is ONE reason and one reason alone that IOA is dead last.....marketing, or still lack of it. People know the Universal name and know that there is a studio park in Orlando. I'm living in Tampa right now and already have spoken to several people who had no idea what or where this Islands of Adventure park is or who owns it.
That is the only reason I think they are failing at attracting guests, their marketing campaing ever since the Universal Escape days has been nearly worthless.

Universal's marketing is not the greatest. But as soon as HP opens that'll change.

I agree with a few other posters that said that mgm and ak kinda are, esp. mgm, the thrill parks at wdw. I think mgm more than anything, with tot and rrcr, I think they should just add more to mgm and put more thrills in. But I also think it should be more than just that, I would like to see thrill e tickets and some family dark rides added to mgm, that would be real nice imo.

I am a big IoA fan. I think it's an underated park.
In terms of a purely thrill-ride 5th gate, i would love it. But i can't see it happening. I would be satisfied, with extra thrill rides being added to DHS and AK.

I'm a bit torn when it comes to US & IOA. I love thrill rides and these parks are a really nice change from Disney when you feel the need to scream your lungs out.
Personally, I go to IOA & US for the thrill rides. I don't really like or know many of the characters that they have there (I can't stand Spongebob!! and I'm not familiar with Jimmy Neutron and I've never read any comics!) so I don't go in for these kind of things. I was gutted when they changed the ride with Yogi Bear and the Jetsons to Jimmy Neutron! I loved Yogi and the Jetsons!
Back to the point, I would love Disney to have more thrill rides, even if they only had one that was anywhere close to the thrill of the Hulk.
And if a thrill rides only park is alienating an audience, wouldn't a villains park do the same? I imagine villain rides to be dark, eerie, creepy and not generally something little ones would like too much!

I don't know if an entire park of ANYTHING is the way to go. One of the great things about Disney Parks is that in any given park there is a variety of things to see and do to appeal to many different visitors.
A Villians-themed area in MK or DHS (probably DHS) would certainly be welcomed. It could add immensely to what is looking to be a rebirth of DHS from its post-90's obscurity in may areas.

Disney has a lot it could add in it's current parks before it should think about opening a fifth gate, no matter what the setup of it would be.
BTW i agree with everyone mentioning HP at universal being a huge get. That will make IOA much more popular than it is currently.

Is Universal too little too late with HP? I would have imagined they should have gotten it open while the new books were still being published for greatest effect. I really love the HP stuff, abnd think it will really increase IoA attendance, but I'm not sure they got the timing right on this one.
