Future Windows? Are you referring to the destination choice windows?
Nah, the four future animatronic scenes of Nova Cite, Mesa Verde, Sea Castle, and Brava. I’m not sure if that were their official name, but that’s what I’ve heard them referred to in the past and it sorta stuck with me, especially with how the omnimover set you up to view the scenes.

I have said it before and I will say it again. The original rides could have been kept around mostly with a little bit of IP infusion. They could have added thrill rides to WS while keeping Future World about edutainment. The gotg ride couldexist without the marvel overlay or at least use marvel characters on that ride to educate about how we use energy. But alas, the future of Epcot will be about grabbing money and inspiring young minds
I was hoping for Guardians of Energy at least,,,it was a route they could have gone to have brought some purpose into it,,but nope full IP only and no content of learning anything per say.

Everything in Horizons was some late 70's, prototype technology from General Electric
No it wasn't.
Epcot sponsors had 15 year contracts, and when that ran out, they could renew the contract/pavilion or find a new sponsor
Most pavilions did not have 15 year contracts. Both Horizons and World of Motion were ten.
General Motors decided they wanted to turn World of Motion into something that focused more on automobiles and you got Test Track
Disney wanted a new attraction first and foremost, and when GM realized they couldn't renew for World of Motion, THEN they said they wanted an attraction more automobile-focused.
Kodak wanted The Imagination pavilion to be they mess it is now
Kodak was duped by Disney into thinking their then-current attraction was not popular, in part by a sabotage effort. Not to mention the concepts originally pitched to Kodak were wildly different than the ride we ended up getting.
GE didn't want to continue with Epcot, so they left...
GE didn't want to leave EPCOT, they wanted to reallocate their sponsorship dollars in EPCOT. Hence why they signed for Innoventions and dropped Horizons. Dropped Horizons and picked up IllumiNations.

The worst mistake in EC history was building a park that required constant updates. They didn’t learn from Tomorrowland. That is not a knock on the pre 1994 FW attractions. They were amazing! But they built something their organization couldn’t maintain.

In fairness to them, in the late 70's and early 80's thing were moving a lot slower. If there was much in the line of internet it was pretty small and consisted of AOL which took years just to sign in on. They didn't see what was coming and the speed that it was going to happen. That would have been Walt's concept downfall as well. At the planning point, all of it was possible because they envisioned Epcot as being the place that all those new things were going to be introduced. Once the internet took hold, that whole idea went screaming out the window.

And you needed to use your phone line to do that so if you were on AOL you couldn't make or receive any calls. There were no cell phones back then either.

They had to rebuild Tomorrowland in 1967 and it was outdated within 10-15 years again. A theme park attraction that closes within 10-15 years or less is usually regarded as a failure. Imagine if they built dark rides on the level of Horizons, JII and WoM in World Showcase. They wouldn’t need to be constantly updated and we would still have them.

Losing sight of what it could be. I know lots of people say you cant keep up with the original concept, but thats because it was left to fester for decades. It could have been possible to continuously update things by bringing in sponsors or small tech companies to show what was coming next (I dont mean charge them a ton for the opportunity to be there). GM wants to sponsor test track.. cool... and heres some space in innoventions to explain ev vehicles. Space X you want to sponsor space X... cool heres some space to talk about space x, tesla, the boring company. 3G is awesome... you want space to explain 4G? What is this "ipod" thing... heck show it to people. We arent done moving into the future, there are innoventions and evolution of daily life every day. Get kids excited about space, renewable energy, and technology. Work with STEM. Have science experiments going on live, hand out stickers to the kids, brochures to the parents.

The solution to it being outdated constantly is dont run it yourself. Let private industry run that section.

We still have tech shows, industry shows, and expos...(covid hurt them but they are returning)

At the very least they could have kept up the park better and kept it relevant. Instead they let it rot and it became festival central

Yes, but this is different. They simply were not aware at the time that there would be a technical advancement that materialized at warp speed. Because of the, it just plain was not possible for Disney to keep up with advances like the thought they were going to be able to do. What type of recognizable topic based on reality allows itself to remain relevant. Time waits for no one.

Yeah, they should have dealt with the futurism concepts by telling the story of the evolution of things like communication, transportation and the human experience. Oh wait, that's exactly what they did.

Moore’s Law is from 1965. Technological advancements will only continue to accelerate. They failed to realize how much things would change but at the same time they should have done away with the future concept altogether. Tomorrowland has always been a problem. Right from the very beginning. I don’t know why they thought FW would be any different.
