Worst Cast Member Experience

And then there's the bad guest experience I inadvertently gave a CM. Leaving MK after the light show, wife wants another set of pics. Stop on Main at a photog. "Thank ya sir!" to which they reply, "It's ma'am and you're welcome." Wife punched me. In my defense it wasn't intentional, and I apologized. But I imagine I had the same expression of stunned confusion Gene Hackman in the Birdcage when he found out Robin Williams and Nathan Lane where a gay couple.
Due to the hundreds of genders we have in 2021 (not scientifically), I just avoid mentioning any sir/mam, he/she, Mr/Ms on any informal settings to be safe.

How about "Thank you, Carbon Life Form!" No way to alter that chemistry unless, of course, the person is a science doubter then are they really worth worrying about. In the words of Ron White... "You can't fix stupid". ;) :)

How do these conversations always arrive here.. 🙄
I suspect because it starts out as a negative thread. The title being "Worst-cast member experience". How can it help but go whatever this location is that you are making reference too. It comes armed with all the status it needs to become a train wreak. I after 43 trips have never had a negative experience with any CM that wasn't involved with them doing their jobs and trying to protect me from being injured while my head was away wrapped in fantasy. The thread although seemingly interesting is at the expense of others and all we are getting is one side of the story. It's like going to the Daytona 500 because you want to see people hurt, injured or killed in a spectacular speeding crash and not caring even a little about who was going to win.

Through the years here we have heard about the "bad attitude" of CM because they might have had to say no to something. Not unlike the volumes of complaints about scooters running into them when In probably 150+ days in the parks over 38 years I have yet to be even close to being run into probably because I always looked around before I changed direction or stopped dead in my tracks. Or reading about all the comments about people using them as being fat and lazy and trying to cut the line. Just the example of human kindness right there. Just a warning though karma is a tough teacher.

How about a thread about how admirable it is that CM can deal with "Karens" all day long and not actually kill someone themselves. At least that is a positive about their self control and dedication. It sure as hell ain't about the money is it?

How nice for you! Some of us have, hence this thread's existence.
Missed the point completely. I never said that nothing ever happened. It's just that since these things only tell one side. It seems like there isn't a way that the poster will not come out looking like a mistreated and abused victim. I can be pretty nasty too, but I will only do that when I am attacked in one form of the other. None of us are qualified to cast the first stone.

Let me ask a question. If you have been treated badly it appears that you need to let others know. My question is... have you ever been treated nicely? If so have you opened up a thread entitled "Best - Cast member experience"?

Ah. I see your point now.

Yes! CMs usually treat me and my family quite nicely. And it's a good reminder to say so, I wasn't even aware that that thread existed. I guess it just wouldn't occur to me because it's kind of their job to be nice, but I suppose any CMs reading it would appreciate it :)

I’ve encountered two really bad CM’s. One was at the check-in desk at Ohana, back in normal times we used to put our name on a waiting list at like 4:30 and head to MK to do some rides. By the time we’d come back, there was always a party that didn’t show up or they would squeeze us in. We had done it several times before this incident, and several times after. This woman was so rude and unaccommodating, I don’t remember specifics but it was so bad that the manager of the restaurant (her name was Whitney I remember) came out to us and apologized. She even gave us Fastpasses (paper form so it was awhile ago lol) for the inconvenience. Another time we were at Hollywood Studios waiting for a bus back to GF. It was pouring rain and the line for the Contemporary/Polynesian/Grand Floridian line was astronomically long. This woman was literally screaming at guests when there really wasn’t anything wrong or disorderly about what was going on. Finally this guy had enough and spoke back to her firmly saying he didn’t expect to be screamed at like a child when he was paying top dollar to stay on the monorail. He had a point!! She changed her tone of voice quickly. I’ve encountered lackluster CM’s but nothing sticks out in my head more than these two incidents.

I wouldn't worry about slipping up. A man is a man and a woman is a woman. A married woman is a Mrs. It's not complicated. I would rather be called Mrs. that "It". LOL
I would submit, Mrs., that although slip-ups happen and both parties should be gracious about that, once you know how someone wants to be addressed, being kind to them by addressing them in a manner consistent with who they are -- as defined by them and not anyone else -- isn't all that complicated either.

Regardless, thank you for sharing your preferred pronouns (Mrs. / That / It) with us. 😉

The only time was a waiter querying his tip which just was just not something I expected. The bill came and I figured that I'd tip him 17.5% even though he'd made next to no conversation and we'd had to ask a different server to refill our drinks two or three times as he kept chatting to another staff member and seemed disinterested. Anyway I put the cash on the leather booklet thing, rounded up so it was dollar bills. As it was near the end of the trip my wife added a load of quarters she had in her purse just to get rid of them.

When he walked over and saw the quarters, I can only assume that he thought I'd only put the exact amount on the bill down as he pulled a face and said "Was there a problem with the service guys"? I was actually taken aback as I found him wrongly assuming we'd not tipped him and then querying it rather rude and kind of looked at him shocked. When he picked up the money he realised the tip was in fact included and was over 17.5% but just shrugged, said a cursory "Thanks" and walked off.

I know many will say it was nothing, he was busy or that he was having a bad day, but it kind of ruined the nice feeling of the evening and seemed so unnecessary and un Disney like. Even though his service (or lack of) had been terrible, it was a real insult to then have him query a regular tip based on an incorrect assumption.

I guess it's a blessing that the "worst CM experience" we ever had doesn't approach the level of some on here, but...

...in February 2020 we had a surly, rude server ("George") at Jungle Navigation Skipper Canteen. My daughter, who was 11 at the time, had asked for a copy of the children's menu when we were seated. Her intention was to see if they had mac-and-cheese, so she could ask about ordering an adult portion of it. When George came to take our order, before anyone could even utter a word, he cleared his throat and half-shouted at my daughter in an angry and accusing tone that seemed intended to draw the attention of everyone in the dining room: "Now, I can SEE that you're over age 9, so if you even TRY to order something off of THAT menu, you should know RIGHT NOW that I'll be charging you ADULT prices for it!"

His apparent pre-supposition that we were going to try and pass off our daughter as a child was insulting enough, but the worst part was that as he was yelling that he could "SEE" that our daughter was over age 9, he was raking her up and down with his eyes, as if to point out the fact that she was visibly developed (which she was). In hindsight, I wish I had said something to the manager, but at the time we were so utterly taken aback that we were momentarily speechless. Beyond that, we were more focused on reassuring our humiliated daughter that she'd done nothing wrong and that George was the one out of line, so we didn't want to belabor the incident any further or draw any more attention to it by making a complaint.

Many years ago I had a strange thing at the Sci-Fi Dine-In Theater Restaurant at DHS. I was on a solo trip and was seated at one of the tables with a large party of about 6 people occupying the tables in front of me. Anyway it took about a half an hour before the waitress even acknowledged my presence. The plus side was I had plenty of time to figure out what I wanted and was able to order right away. She then went to the tables in front of me and took their order.

Close to 45 minutes went by and we were all served at approximately the same time. I finished eating and waited another 15 minutes to get her attention to give me the check. She handed it to me and quickly disappeared. I looked at the bill and practically fainted it was for over $200 dollars. I know that is not unusual for WDW but, for a cheeseburger and coke it seemed a little excessive. It took another 15 minutes to get her attention again and asked her what all this was and she said it is for you and those people in front of you. Gasp! Why would you think that I was with them. She said well I saw them hand the ketchup to you so I figured you were with them. I said, OK, but the only reason why I got ketchup from them was because you never brought me any so I asked them if they were done with it so I could have some. Oh, she said. Then I said assuming that I did know them what made you think I was paying for everyone when they were all together and I was sitting by myself? Finally she said Sorry, I can't explain it, for some reason I just thought that was what was happening. She took back the check and corrected it quickly and I no longer wanted be occupied by this when I had a theme park to explore. I did leave a minimum tip, because frankly I don't think her errors were due to lack of concern, it was more like lack of working brain cells. I have occasionally wondered how long the young lady lasted there.

I'm no spring chicken myself so no offence, but do you think she thought you were the head of the family? :)

Or perhaps you looked so sharp and distinguished that she thought you were the family member with the most money? (Let's go with that)

I'm sat here laughing imagining you sitting there thinking "What the ...." :D
