As I stroll through the streets of the magic kingdom time and time again, I always notice the carnivores gnawing on Disney's famous turkey legs and wonder if they are good or not. I have never tried one, but always have wanted to. They look so darn delicious! Are they or aren't they? Are they worth the hype or are they just a heart attack waiting to happen?:p

Some things in this world do not require a lot of analysis or consideration of impact on health, environment, or economy. A turkey leg is one of those things.

There are only a few things that are a "must do" for me when I go to WDW... and one of them is eat a turkey leg! They taste even better than they look and are completely worth it! Although I will say I hope you are hungry because it is a lot of food. Usually I will just eat it as my lunch. :)

Think for yourselfer
They are more then worth it. They are delicious. Best quick serve food in the world. Also, turkey is good for you. Don't worry about how its cooked or how much is dark fattier meat. Turkey = Healthy. It's science.

They taste great -- how can you go wrong with Turkey? And for those of us on high-protein, low carb diets, it's one of the few pleasures in the park...

But a word of warning -- they are a MESS....I bring pocket packets of those moist towlettes in my backpack -- they are gross to hold and eat, and they get grease all over the place....strategy = DONT walk around and eat them. Sit down, eat it, then go order a soda. You can't manage both at the same time. If you try, you get grease all over the soda cups.

You've got to try it at least once! You should enjoy it. They have WDW Turkey leg t-shirts now too so I'm probably going to end up getting one when I'm down there.

Turkey legs = deliciousness. LOVE them. But it is a lot of food, my boyfriend and I usually split one for lunch. Taste good alone or dipped in some honey mustard (we usually get ours at Toluca Turkey Leg at DHS...the food place next to it, Fairfax fare, which has condiments outside). But yes we LOVE them, we always get one each trip. Only 24 days until our next turkey leg!:slurp:

And as far as healthy goes...calories don't count in Disney. That's what I tell myself each trip. Plus, it's vacation...best place to splurge!

Most grocery stores sell smoked turkey legs. Buy one, heat it up, and try it. The ones at WDW are much better, but have the same sort of taste.

Having said they they are huge, uber-salty, and a royal mess.

It is not something I do every time I go, but I do enjoy one every once in a while.

I've always been tempted to try one but I don't like fat and grissle, I would be picking at it for ages trying to find the meat. I don't eat any meat on the bone.:hurl:

They're delicious and that's all you need to know. Health aspects do not come into it.

Who doesn't love a forearm sized leg from a 50 pound turkey. Don't worry about the 1100+ calories, 57 grams of fat, and enough sodium for 2 days, those are equivilant numbers to your friendly big Mac and large fries.

Go for it.

I must be the only one who does not like the turkey legs. Like you I thought the same thing that I saw everyone eating them and wondered are they any good. So i decided to buy one and took two bites and threw it away. I just did not like the flavor and there seemed to be alot of cartilage on it.

I agree with you. I have not tried one at Disney but I did at the Taste of Chicago. They would be very similar to Disneys. Nothing but tendons which quickly became gross.

Hmm I thought I read somewhere that certain areas have it inside as a CS option..comes with a drink etc.

Can anyone confirm that?

I got one last month for the first time in DHS as part of a CS meal. It came with a drink and a piece of cake. I was excited to try one finally after hearing so much about them. I'm afraid I must say that I was disappointed. It wasn't awful, but it wasn't anything special either, and I certainly wouldn't get another one. I do get one every year at the upstate NY Renaissance Festival, and those are amazingly juicy and delicious. For once, Disney didn't compare. But that's one of the very rare unfavorable comments I have about Disney, so that's not too bad!

I can only confirm that Toluca Turkey Leg Co. at DHS uses a turkey leg, bag of chips and a drink as a CS meal. Think it cost around 12 bucks. Don't know about the ones in MK. For some reason we always eat them at DHS.

I've never had one but they don't look very good. I do feel bad for the CM's that have to work those carts though. I don't want to imagine what it's like to smell that turkey stench all day long, especially in the humid Florida summers.
