I'm honestly at a loss to understand what you're saying here. My point was solely that the CM cannot by any reasonable stretch of the imagination, or indeed by any relevant legal standard, be accused of stealing the ring. As I've already indicated, I think he would have done better not to snatch it, so I'm not defending his actions. The only thing I am disputing is the hyperbolic and unsubstantiated claim that he is "technically" guilty of theft. The worst he can be accused of is an overzealous response.

For the life of me, I cannot understand why some are trying to excuse/justify one or the other. Arguing just to argue? If someone says white, must you always say black? 🤦‍♂️
I think some (most?) people just disagree with you on this issue. We're not doing it for kicks!

I know we're going around in circles, but I just find their attitude so childish and self-centred. Kind of feel the same way about the people online supporting them, if I'm honest.

It's pretty self-evident why you can't just climb onto a fenced-off stage in the middle of a theme park because you want to propose and why Disney can't just let people do that so they can have their special moment. Well, on the latter point, it seems like Disneyland Paris is saying you can, so 🤷‍♂️

Walk straight up to them and say, “Excuse me. I hate to break this up but you cannot be up here. This area is roped off and off limits to guests. For your safety let me escort you out this way, please.”

There. An uncomplicated alternative that is more polite and doesn’t involve snatching personal possessions. Geeeeezzz.
More likely, he would have said, "Pardon. Je déteste rompre ça mais tu ne peux pas être ici. Cette zone est délimitée et interdite aux invités. Pour votre sécurité, laissez-moi vous escorter jusqu'ici, s'il vous plaît."

It’s a horrible response. And Disney agrees. Basic customer service. If he can’t handle that situation better, there is a problem. If your snap judgment is to grab someone’s stuff, you need to be retrained. Learn from mistakes. No need for anyone to excuse them.
Plus the fact that no one is mentioning is that you can see another CM in the same shirt standing at the bottom of the platform, not looking all that concerned, probably VERY surprised that CM#1 took the ring out of the guests hand

Disney “apologizes” for optics all the time. Some apologies are sincere, some aren’t.

Managers will “apologize” to guests, then laugh about them and call them dumb and stupid with the other CMs all the time.
That’s not just Disney…managers do it all the time. I can show you permanent scars where I had to bite my tongue in 30+ years in retail management
