working out for Disney

I used to live in Phoenix/Tempe, so I know how crazy hot it can get down there 🔥🔥. I used to hike around the mountains in the city and I'd always do things like tell a trusted friend which trail I was going to and what time to expect me back. I'd also bring a big bottle of water and turn around when half of it was left if it was really hot out. But if we do go hiking, we would start as the sun is rising. I have a really healthy respect for the heat down there.
That’s a good plan. What time to expect you back. There was a group that did an early morning hike , one of the hikers decided to walk off by herself then she did not return. She was found passed away from heat exhaustion on a trail when a search party found her.

I'm glad your appoints went well for you and it sounds like she explained things well to you. Hopefully your follow up appointment goes well. I like how you are making food that you like but your husband doesn't while he is gone. I do that too, although last week when my husband was out of town I made a dish that we both love just so I could have all of it to myself and not have to share. It was a chicken and pasta dish that was popular on tic-tock (not that I'm a tick tocker) awhile ago, it has roasted tomatoes & feta cheese. It is so yummy!

Are you talking about the "Marry Me Chicken"?

If you can't make it down by yourself, they will airlift you. They will charge you though. I'm sure it's quite expensive. There are signs along the trails warning you. This weekend, 3 kids in Scottsdale to be rescued and hospitalized because their parents took them hiking in July. I can't think of a worse place and time of year to bring your kids hiking. The youngest child was 12 months old!

Alaska in the middle of winter might rate up there but for different reasons.

I've been hiking but not in AZ. When we lose cell reception we are on our own but we did not venture off the trail ( with signage telling us that ) even though some did.

Totally. It's just the parents' judgment I question. A 4 month old baby died in Arizona this month because her parents took her out on a boat in 121F weather. Then a 10 year old boy died when his parents took him hiking in the desert. The National Weather Service posts "excessive heat warnings" that stress being outdoors can cause dehydration and heat stroke. People wouldn't dream of sending their kids outside to play in shorts and flip flops when it's dangerously cold outside. This is no different.

Good morning-

I did a chest and back workout. These are not my favorite parts to workout. I think it's because you're horizontal most of the time, so it's not a sweaty workout.

I have been up since 3 AM. Even though I have my phone on do not disturb, a text from my 11 yo nephew in England somehow breached that and woke me up. I am trying to figure out why this happened. It's never happened before. I had a hard time going back to sleep after that because I originally thought someone was in trouble, so I quickly looked at my phone. Then I saw it was my nephew talking about baking and I was all confused. lol So, extra coffee for me today.

Good morning-

I did a jump rope+full body strength training+core workout this AM. It was pretty good, it went by quickly.

I went for my fourth attempt to get my bloodwork done. It didn't happen. I have been trying to get this done since the end of May and it's August. The first attempt failed because my doc's office used the wrong lab code for my insurance, then I had covid and had to cancel. the third time time was the crowd strike issue that affected the check in, today was ridiculously slow. It was so crowded. I left after a 50 minutes of waiting. It was a fasted draw. I checked in through a link the lab texted to me, then I saw the first three letters of my first name and last name initial appear of the screen in the waiting room. After 40 minutes, they called my first name. I was the wrong person with the same name. So I went back to my seat and was reading stuff on my phone. I happened to look up and see my name is no longer on the wait screen. I tried to check in again, but I couldn't because the link was no longer active after I checked in the first time. I tried to get the receptionist to talk to me, but she just told me to wait until I was called. I was trying to explain what happened because you can't call a name that is no longer present on the screen and she said, "I SAID WAIT UNTIL YOU ARE CALLED." People looked over at me and I was apoplectic she spoke to me like that, because she wasn't even trying to listen to me. Nah, not accepting that tone, I just left. I think they erased my name when the other woman with the same name was called. I'm just getting angry, because I need lab results before my doctor will prescribe me a certain medication. I have another attempt at a different location in 2 weeks. The reason I have to wait so long for an appointment is the early appointments go early because people are getting fasted work done and people also want to get any testing done before going into work--those times go quickly. I am so done with companies cutting back on labor to save money.

I am just glad it's Friday and I am going to focus on that. :)

When my doctor orders labs he gives me a print out of the order . I then go online to make an early morning appt at Quest since I have to fast the night before and I am seen at the exact time. Have you tried going this route?

I made an appointment. I am not walking in. I would expect a somewhat lengthy wait if I was a walk in. I have to go to Lab Corp because of insurance. When I go to make an appointment, the early times are taken until 2 weeks out. I tried to make the first attempt at this blood work when I got home from my doctor’s appointment back in May. I can’t fast until 1:15 pm. I’ll feel too sick.

Not saying you should do this, but just a thought. Considering all the aggravation you've been through, what if you called a different lab and asked for billing. Perhaps they could quote the price of the lab tests you need, if paying out-of-pocket.

I completely realize you should have your insurance pay (at their specified lab only), but (sometimes only), if the price isn't much, it might be worth your sanity to go elsewhere. If it's too expensive for out-of-pocket payers, then you're probably stuck with the original lab. Sorry you're going through this mess.

Good morning-

I did a leg workout. It was brutal and I can't say it was enjoyable, but it's done. lol I look at some workouts like eating certain veggies. It might not be the most exciting food to eat, but it's good for you.

I went to my appointment yesterday. It was just a consult. The doctor basically told me she didn't feel like I needed anything done, but it was up to me. If I did say yes, she said she does it under general anesthesia in the hospital. She said the chances of this polyp being an issue was very low. So, I opted to wait and see. But, I do have a follow up appointment with her for something else, so I guess she is my doctor now. Anyway, I was so relieved not to have to have anything done. I know it was nerve-wrecking for me when the NP referred me to this doc, but I'd rather have a false positive over a false negative in this situation.

My husband is at work, so I am making myself dinners that are not his favorites. lol I am making Vietnamese-style coconut-caramel braised tofu tonight with veggies and rice. He does eat it when I make it, but I also notice he always has to go to CVS or the supermarket when I do. Then he comes back in with an empty McDonald's bag and tries to sneak it into the garbage can. :hilarious:
I'm so glad you didn't have to have anything done and that Callie is looking better. It's been a real WEEK here and I haven't gotten online at ALL, so I still have some catching up to do, but for now, I'm glad for good news!!

That's funny about your husband. My husband isn't a fan of veggie dishes. He says he doesn't mind them, but whenever we make them, he always tastes them and then says it needs meat, or would be better with meat, etc. So E and I usually save those for when he isn't home. We love our vegetables and DH can take them or leave them. He doesn't mind them, but it's not something he craves and if he's in charge of dinner, we know we won't get veggies. He just doesn't think about it. But he's a snacker. If he doesn't feel satisfied with his dinner, he'll just grab a bag of chips or some sausage and cheese and munch throughout the evening while he plays on his computer.

I'm curious....have you ever tried to call your husband's bluff by saying "Oh, great! I'll come with you because I need...."and seeing what his reaction is?

Last summer when we were in Disney, the temps were up around 113 every day for over a week. We seriously changed our plans. We spent a LOT of time at Epcot either in air conditioned shows in the pavilions or riding the land and soarin. Even the halloween party was over 100 degrees at almost 1 am. There were excessive heat warnings every day and it was really miserably hot. We didn't do NEARLY as much food and wine festival as we'd have liked to because it just wasn't safe to stand in lines that long for a bite to eat. There were a few things we tried and loved so much we wanted to go back, but didn't because it would have been a stupid move. We generally didn't go outside except to walk the few meters between one world showcase pavilion and the next. Same with MK....we did a LOT of CoP and we did Monster's Inc Laugh Floor even though it's not our favorite, just to be inside. Lot's of breaks, lots of indoor stuff....hall of presidents, philharmagic, nothing with a long wait time...we skipped a bunch because the lines were too long. I can't imagine going hiking in that heat. No thank you!!

Sorry...this will be long, and possibly rambling. I'm trying to catch up, but it seems like AGES since I've been on here. I was on vacation and we didn't have very good wifi in some places, and then we got back and I had to go back to work. There's a newish girl who was hired on for vacation and weekend work and she's a nightmare. She did an unpaid internship there a couple of years ago for her high school. She goes to the absolute lowest level of high school, where they don't do any classroom instruction...it's basically like a trade school, but for high school level. And they have to do internships in several fields to decide what they want to be trained in....or at least that's the way I understand it. So she did her internship and they said she was really good, very reliable, pretty quiet and shy, but after a few months she came out of her shell a bit. Her sister started an internship back in like...May or June, but she only lasted a few weeks before she quit. She was always calling in sick or asking to go home early, etc. And my boss and the other coworker who worked with both girls said it was amazing how different they were. They were happy to have Bissan back because she was so good. Well, she changed a LOT. She just doesn't show up, and when she finally gets there, she has a mouth on her and she doesn't do anything. So I came back from vacation and was scheduled to work on the Wednesday, which is when we get our delivery of new merch that we have to unpack. The boss had said she wanted Bissan to work the register so I could help Chantal with the freight. We got 5 pallets, which is quite a bit for us. But Bissan kept getting so backed up because she's really slow and she makes stupid mistakes that Chantal would have to go fix and we didn't quite get through all the freight. Chantal had asked Bissan to do the daily sweep of the women's and children's departments to put away stuff from the fitting rooms and pick stuff up off the floor and hang it, etc, but she wasn't doing it, so she sent me to do it and asked Bissan just to empty the fitting room rack where people hang the things they don't want, while she worked the last pallet by herself. I got through almost all of the Women's department and Bissan comes up to me and asks me if I'm good at the fitting room rack, because she isn't. I said no, I've only done it a couple of times. (Really, I'm not BAD at it, but Chantal asked HER to do it, and I know she was just trying to pawn it off on me because she didn't want to do it and I was almost done with my task, so she figured if she switched with me, she'd be done and I'd just do everything and I wasn't falling for that trick.) So she mumbled something like "Fine, I guess I'll do it." and walked away. Chantal only made it through half the pallet, and the boss had told Chantal if we didn't get everything done, we'd have to come back on our day off the next day. I was trying so hard, but it was definitely three people's worth and with one person who won't do their share, it's just not going to happen. So Chantal knows that it's because Bissan isn't pulling her weight and she asks her to come in the next day at noon, unless the boss wants her earlier. She agrees, and Chantal thought maybe that would solve the issue....knowing it was Bissan's fault we didn't finish and that she'd come in for 6 hours the next day to finish it should have been enough. Poor Chantal couldn't even take a break in peace because Bissan would call her out to fix something and I'd go to fix it and she'd say "No! We need to call Chantal!" and she'd call her and I'd have already fixed it so Chantal came out of her break for no reason. Then we count the tills and head to the back and Chantal looks at the Fitting room rack....the rack is empty, which we could see from the front of the store....what we COULDN'T see was that it was only empty because she had taken everything off of it and dumped it on the floor. She hadn't put anything away, she'd just dumped it. And it was already time to go home, so it had to wait until the next day. Chantal had warned us that the boss had told her she'd call us in if everything wasn't in shape, so I resigned myself to having to go in in the morning on my day off, thinking it would just be to get the rest of the stuff done....pick up the clothes she dumped and hang them up, sweep, and help Chantal with the last half pallet. Sure enough, I get a message saying how disappointed the boss is in how "we" left the store last night and how Chantal shouldn't have to do everything herself, and we have to come in to fix it. This was at about 8:45 am. When I ask for how long, and do I need a lunch, she says bring one just in case. To me, just in case means it probably won't take that long. I was already ticked that I was having to come in because of Bissan when it wasn't my fault and she KNEW it wasn't my fault, and she put the message in the group chat with all the employees, like I had something to do with it, with a picture of the pile of clothes on the floor. I get there, and guess who WASN'T there and wasn't answering her phone or the messages in the group chat. The boss keeps calling her and she's not picking up. Then she has the audacity to send a message that says "I'm starting at noon." By this time, I've already cleaned up her entire mess from the floor, swept the floor, vacuumed the mat by the door....all the things SHE was supposed to do the day before that is the reason I had to give up my day off. I told my boss that I didn't mind coming in extra when they needed me, but I felt it was unfair for her to call me out in the chat as though I had done it, and that I was being punished for something I didn't do. Now I've already cleaned up the mess, but instead of getting to go home, she kept me there until almost 4pm!! And why?? Because she needed me to help finish the stuff SHE didn't get done 2 days before. So when WE didn't get things done, we had to come in the next day. When SHE didn't get things done, she still got her day off and she just made ME come in and do it on my day off. I was so angry. She called Bissan and told her she needed to come NOW, and she was there at like 10:30 in the morning.

Sunday, I had to open and close for the first time....I really don't want to be responsible for the store, but I wasn't given a choice. It was Chantal's birthday and Manuela, Rana, and Ramona were all on vacation. That left me and Bissan. And Bissan isn't reliable. So I had to open and close. I was really hoping Bissan would show up because I didn't know what to do if she didn't. She was there on time, but kept trying to be the boss, telling ME what I should be doing. I kept apping the boss to ask how she wanted things done, then relaying it to Bissan, because it was not what Bissan wanted to do. So then she says to me "You're working tomorrow with Ramona, right? Will you send her a message that we're not going to get this done and you guys can finish it tomorrow?" I said no, I had spoken with the boss and she had told me we needed to finish hanging the freight, and I was going to stop putting the alarm labels on so I could help with the hanging and get it done. She says "You aren't a manager though, right" and I said "Today I am." and she says " Well today, sure, but not usually. And the boss is on vacation! She doesn't have a say!" I was like "she's the BOSS! Of COURSE she has a say. What SHE says is the most important thing!"

So now the boss is on vacation, and we had price change lists every day, so it was A LOT of work. Monday, Ramona and I were alone and that was the day with the biggest list. We didn't get it all done...it was way too much for 2 people, especially since I was mostly at the register and couldn't help her a lot. So that meant that Chantal would have to finish the next day while Bissan did cash register, and she would also have to do her price changes as well. Bissan didn't show up. Chantal called her and woke her up, so she didn't get there until 10:15. Apparently Bissan had also been asked to help out in another town while I was on vacation and didn't show up until after 3pm....the poor woman there was alone from 9 to 3:30 or something and couldn't take a break all that time because there was no one to cover her. And she hadn't shown up on the Saturday and Ramona had had to open by herself. Bissan called the boss at like 10 something and asked if she was supposed to start at 9 or noon. So she's consistently late. So Chantal told her on Wednesday, she'd better be there....she wasn't. They had to call her and wake her up again. And of course, Wednesday is freight day, so there's that PLUS the price change list, where we were way behind because Monday's didn't get finished, which meant Tuesday's didn't get done, which meant Tuesday's had to be done on Wednesday, and Wednesday's didn't get started until Thursday. I was scheduled again Thursday, as was Bissan. FINALLY she was there on time, and Chantal and I worked our TAILS off to get the price list done for Wednesday AND Thursday, and I had to once again do the clean up of the Women's and children's departments that Bissan had been asked to do as well as the Men's department that I was asked to do. So we did get everything caught up on Thursday because we busted our tails. The worst was that the BIG boss from Germany, like....from the head office, was there to evaluate our store. They show up with no warning once every year or 2 to evaluate and see how you are doing, and of COURSE he showed up when the boss was on vacation, when we had the MOST work to get done that we only have 4 times a year (each season), and when we have Bissan who is unreliable and lazy and makes the store look bad. So we're trying to get everything done while this guy is standing over our shoulders to make sure we follow protocol, etc. and Chantal kept having to tell Bissan to at least ACT like she's doing something because if he sees her just standing there, we'll lose points from our score. He was a really nice guy though, which Chantal said was a nice change, because the last time the guy was a real grouch. And they are German and don't speak Dutch, and none of us speak German, though a lot of words are similar, so you can mostly understand each other. We got an 89.44, so that's a pretty good score, really. We were so relieved it was done.

Anyway, so I've been really stressed at work, worrying if Bissan was going to show up, and having to fix her mistakes and come in on my days off etc. and I haven't had head space for much else. I've been watching Olympic gymnastics as soon as I get home and I just don't have the energy to get off the couch.

But Rana comes back from vacation this weekend, so Bissan isn't scheduled again after today until next weekend and I am off today, so I don't have to work with her for another week or so. Rana is way more reliable. And she doesn't complain the whole time about the tasks she's given, and she doesn't keep saying "F this person!" or question authority, etc. I guess Bissan made Ramona angry on Wednesday, bopping her pony tail, shaking her shoulders, just touching her constantly, and then she kept saying "F you!!" to her the whole day. And Thursday, when the head office guy was there, she kept saying "F him!" She's not going to make it through her trial period, but for now we need her because of people on vacation. Chantal and the boss have vacation this week, and Ramona has another week of vacation in a couple of weeks...we don't have enough people to cover all the hours without Bissan, so we need to make it through the vacations and then she's gone and hopefully we'll have someone new then.

You read my mind! 😊 I was actually thinking of doing that. I'm having six different tests done, so that might add up, but I thought if I paid oop at Quest for a few tests and do the rest at Lab Corp. I really want one test done ASAP, because the results of this test hinge on whether or not I can start a medication safely.

It doesn't bother me that he goes out, I think he actually does go to CVS or the supermarket, but I think he goes to McDonald's, too. He's a big meat eater and I am not, I try to use lean proteins when I cook, but he needs more to feel full I guess. I think he does like what I make, it's just not filling enough for him. I just make these meals when he's gone, which is basically every week. lol

I wonder what happened to her that her personality changed so drastically in such little time? She sounds like an absolute nightmare! Can she be fired? She sounds like a bad apple--saying F you at work, I mean, really. The non-stop complaining and acting like she is the manager would send me around the bend. I guess I am just surprised she is telling a coworker F you, putting her hands on another and shaking her--WTH? I hope you can hold tight the next few weeks. I understand where you're coming from. I had a store manager who was insanely abusive when I worked at Starbucks. She would throw the pitchers at Frappuccinos are made in at us, the box of Saran Wrap at us. I used to dread working with her. I felt like I was walking on eggshells working a shift with her. It was one of my first days out of training and someone ordered a Frappuccino and I was still memorizing the drink recipes. I accidentally put whipped cream on an order that didn't want whipped cream on it. She caught it and she asked me if I was f-ing r-word. All I had to do was take a spoon and spoon it off--crisis averted. I am sure I am not the first person to do that and not the last. I knew then and there I was going to leave after the holidays and I did.

Hello-

I did a very boring glute workout yesterday and went for a walk. I tried to go for a walk today, but it started raining about a quarter way through. TBH, my stomach didn't feel great today. I don't know if it's the heat, but I am not hungry and I felt like I was hungover when I woke up and I haven't had any alcohol in a couple of weeks. I have been drinking loads of water in case I am dehydrated. I am really struggling to stay hydrated this summer.

I changed hotels (again) for my husband's conference. We were booked at Delta Hotel by Marriott in Kissimmee/Celebration, but I'd been keeping an eye on the reviews in the Marriott app and there were a lot of complaints about dirty rooms. It looked like a decent hotel otherwise. So, I found a good deal at Sheraton Vistana Resort. It was the same price as the Delta, but this is a 1 bedroom villa with a full kitchen and a screened in balcony. I can make a nice breakfast for myself. There was a deal for Bonvoy members of a certain level to get double the points. I know it's a timeshare, but my husband is going to be at the conference from 9-5 and I am not sitting through a presentation. I have stayed here twice and it's pretty nice, but it's massive. lol
