Hello-

Checking in with the workout from hell 😭 and a pleasant afternoon walk.

Callie came in for breakfast and come over for some scratches. She rubbed her face against mine and not long after that, my face, nose and eyes were itchy. I had to wait to workout because my eyes would not stop itching. Then when I did workout, it felt very hard. I kept sneezing and clearing my throat. It just was not a fun workout. There were too many burpees and some were done off of the wall. No thank you. I'm not putting my feet through dry wall! 😂 But I had a really lovely walk in the sun and 67 F weather.

I ended up figuring out how to text bank. Once you set it up, it's so easy. There are different campaigns in different states you can select. I have been working on a campaign in VA to remind people to register. If they text back, I give them info about registering. I think I am going to do some post carding, too. :)

Hello-

Checking in with a leg workout. I walked to and from my hair appointment. I usually listen to music when I am walking, but I decided not to today. The birds seemed to be in good spirits and I could even hear woodpeckers 'drilling' on trees. The weather is beautiful, too.

I am hoping the cherry blossoms don't pop early because of this weather. :hilarious:

Daylight Savings time is doing a number on my energy to work out. The closest thing I've gotten to a workout in the last few days was staying on my feet for a few hours non-stop while hustling around the school concession stand. I need to snap out of it and get back into the swing of things. I keep going back and forth with the walking desk idea. I got distracted by photography gear. My parents are scheduled to fly here for the eclipse next month and after looking at solar filters, I started looking at lenses. I talked myself out of it. In fact, the online store I was browsing had an article that helped talk me out of it...at least for now. Our crazy travel ball schedule this summer was also a bit of a voice of reason.

Seeing @Sans Souci 's posts about Callie reminded me that we have a new cat "friend." We're not cat people and Voodoo is about as anti-cat as a dog could get, but our neighbor's cat has taken a liking to me as well as Kendall. I'm trying to encourage her to stay outside of our gate, but I think I'm losing that battle. Thankfully, she's a lot faster than Voo. 🤣 Her name is Sasha. She's white with patches of striped tabby style markings.

DST takes about a week to adjust to, for many people, so hang in there. Next week should be a bit easier. Congrats on Sasha -- I think she's found her "forever home"! :)

I can understand not prescribing antibiotics for viral infections, but it's kind of cruel to wait out a bacterial infection to see if your immune system can handle it, particularly children. I read doctors are no longer prescribing antibiotics for children's ear infections, willy nilly. You're supposed to treat the pain with Tylenol and ride it out. This is because so many antibiotics are no longer effective, which is scary. It's hard to watch though, when they are babies and they can't speak or understand why their ear hurts. I remember when my son would get earaches from ear infections and it was just unconsolable crying and ear tugging all night long.
That's the thing....they never tested me to see if it was viral or bacterial. A cold is just a virus, but if you get toxins that pack in your sinuses, it can be bacterial. That's why they tell you to come back if it doesn't go away. Because if it doesn't go away on its own, it may have mutated and become bacterial, and some of that won't ever go away on its own. I had my adenoids removed, finally, and haven't gotten the sinus infections/bronchitis since then. But obviously my body wasn't fighting off infection. And with things like whooping cough in a newborn baby, you don't mess around and wait to see if it kills the baby. You fight the infection.

Aw, you and Kendall are the chosen ones. Sasha sounds so cute! I have always been a cat magnet, even though I am allergic to them. When my dog was still alive, his vet had a cat who lived in the office named Howard. I always avoided him, because I would start with the itchy eyes and runny nose. He would come sit by me, then he would try to jump in my lap. This happened to me when I would go to my brother's house. His cats would make a beeline for me. It's like they choose the person who is not paying attention to them. :hilarious:

How is Sam's injury faring?

I have issues with sinuses, too. I get colds or an upper respiratory thing and it turns into an infection because the mucus is not draining and it's just incubating bacteria. Most days they bother me with headaches and pressure behind my eye. Sometimes I have to sit up right in bed in the middle of the night to let gravity do its thing. Then there's the post nasal drip that's always fun. I think I am going to press my doctor for a better solution, because taking Allegra before I go to sleep is not cutting it.

What was the recovery like for an adenoid removal? I heard tonsillectomy is harder as an adult and it's quite painful.

Hello-

I have been doing YouTube work outs. I like the app I was using, but I was feeling spent afterwards. I am shifting gears for a bit.

I am sort of following this whole Boeing saga. Apparently, that whistle blower who died told family and friends if he ever dies, it is not a suicide. This is insane. Boeing was skating on thin ice before that door plug popped out earlier this year. Now there are all of these issues with their 737 MAX. I wonder how much of this stuff is common and now the magnifying glass is on them, so we're hearing more. It's disappointing because they once brought so much innovation to the industry. I don't know if they can ever return to their former glory. They keep cutting corners, resulting in accidents and disasters. It's like they never learn. Back in Jan, my husband booked flights to Phoenix for us later in the year. Both legs are on a MAX 8. I never used to worry about going on them. I have flown on them after they were back in service. I look at overall performance and I assume the odds are in my favor. I am a little anxious about flying on the MAX now. 😱

How is Sam's injury faring?

She paid me a visit in the driveway this morning, but she didn't want to come closer. She ran home shortly after I called her name. Oh well, I'm just an animal magnet in general. Yesterday, as I was finishing up my workday, I heard something that sounded like metal hitting the side of the house. I opened my office window and after doing a double take, I saw a squirrel on the brick window frame using its little claws to pull on my window screen. Normally squirrels bolt when they see us, but it just danced around the window for a few minutes before running off to do something else.

She's improving. She can go down into a full squat with minimal to no pain and she did a little bit of light jogging without issue, but now she's got to start easing back in. We have an appointment to bring her back to the doctor on 4/2. She wants to go back sooner, but I'm afraid that she'll be pushed back in too quickly if she gets cleared before that point.

I can relate to your nervousness with the flights. While not a MAX, our plane back from Arizona was a Boeing model. I used to get great peace of mind when we were on a Boeing made jet, but this time I wasn't so comfortable. That's also very concerning with the whistle blower. It really makes you wonder what's going on behind the scenes.

I went ahead and ordered the walking pad treadmill. It's not supposed to arrive until Tuesday, but the keyboard/mouse stand should arrive over the weekend so I can get those in place. At the very least, I can work while standing on Monday to get used to it. The updates in our actual office building space have been equipped with electronic desktops that can be raised and lowered. So, I do sometimes stand there when I go in to work.

We're expecting a rainy weekend. In fact, we're waiting on the worst of today's storms to head this way. Hail in some parts is up to ping pong ball sized. They just showed people running from the Houston Rodeo carnival that chose not to take cover before the storm came in. I just hope we don't have any house or car damage...or injuries for that matter. Keeping power would be a bonus!

I am not super surprised about Boeing. At my last job, Boeing was one of our customers. They just stopped paying us. It's not that unusual for a customer to default, but for a customer as big as frickin Boeing to default? Yikes. I think we ended up writing off a bunch of their balance and sent it over to collections.

Then, I was taking accounting classes. Every core class, we had to select a company to study. I decided I wanted to know what the heck Boeing was doing, so I picked them to study. Their financial statements were atrocious.

I have a theory based on what I researched. It seems like they started having quality control issues in the middle of the last decade with the 737 Max 8. Then, COVID hit. Not only did airlines cancel airplane orders and not book new orders, but the supply chain just got completely messed up, so Boeing couldn't deliver their existing orders. So they took the financial hit from the Max 8 crisis, then they lose their revenue stream, they deal with rising costs, they start losing money. So then upper management starts putting pressure on the manufacturing teams to get these airplanes delivered. They already have a quality control problem, and now they're speeding up the process...it gets worse.

My thought is at this point, someone (likely a private equity company) needs to buy them and clean house. But yeah, when all this happened, I was not surprised.

As far as flying on a Boeing, I'm not overly concerned because statistically, you're still way more likely to be in a car accident than in an incident involving commercial aircraft. Would I feel safer on an Airbus? Yes, absolutely. Unfortunately, Southwest's fleet is entirely Boeing 737s. Fortunately, I don't think they have any Max 9's; just the 8's, which they took out of service when they had the accident several years ago and I know they were thoroughly inspected before being put back into service. I've flown on the Max 8 before and haven't worried about it, though admittedly I don't sit behind the wing anymore. I sit at the wing or forward, or I sit all the way back.

My adenoid removal would probably not have been as bad, but they nicked my uvula, and that made everything super sore. I couldn't swallow...it felt like knives carving my throat. Then two days after the surgery, I caught some sort of stomach bug, so I was throwing up, which was also very painful in my throat. It was awful. And I was so tired from the anesthesia that it wore me out just walking to the bathroom. I was kind of a mess. But I suspect that had they not cut my uvula, I probably would have been fine. I've heard other people say that adenoid removal wasn't bad.

[Apologies if you know all of this stuff for your studies.]

I remember about 5 years ago, the NYT did a thorough investigation about Boeing after the two MAX crashes. The company has a culture of not listening to their engineers and test pilots. Airbus unveiled its new 321 neo and American was the first airline to put an order in, then AA told Boeing what they'd done. I guess this is some sort of "courtesy" thing? Idk.This put Boeing in a tailspin, so they wanted to put a product out to compete with Airbus. All they did was take a 50 year model and stretched it out. But, it needed bigger engines, so they had to place the engines further forward than on other 737 variants. However, this would cause the plane to take off at a steep angle that could cause it to stall. So, the installed this software program that would make the rudder "level out" the ascent. SWA placed a large order and Boeing assured them pilots would not need time in the simulator to certify for it--they even promised SWA that if pilots needed simulator certification, they would rebate SWA $1 million for each plane purchased. The only training required was on an iPad and it never mentioned this software program.

But even before this MAX stuff, they had issues (fires) with the lithium batteries in their Dreamliners and when they delivered an order of 787s to the military (I forget which branch), they found tools and metal shavings near wiring.

It doesn't help that former Boeing employees work at the FAA. I don't even know how that happens. Also, Boeing is allowed to self certify its aircraft and it created an atmosphere of pressure for these employees to lie and sign off on shoddy workmanship. The DoJ is getting involved now, so maybe this will give Boeing a shake up of its C-suite.

I do like the Dreamliner. I don't know if it's in my head, but I don't feel so wrecked after an 8 hour flight on 787s. That incident that happened this week was from a pilot's seat pushing him onto his yoke. It was a flight attendant who accidentally actuated his seat, so not really a Boeing issue.

I miss when there were more manufacturers. I feel like there was a lot more variance in aircraft. There were some really cool-looking aircraft 30 years ago. I miss 747s and DC 10s. lol

Happy Monday! Checking in from the new standing desk setup. The walking pad won't arrive until sometime tomorrow, but I'm pushing myself to stand as much as possible while I work. I'm so accustomed to just sinking into my chair and being sedentary all day (no matter how much I try and push myself to move) that this feels like a big change. You supposedly burn an avg of 47 more calories an hour standing, but I also can't stand super still for long...so it may be more. I still have my chair handy, but it's for breaks as I get used to this. I have it off to the side and the desk is set up so that I'm forced to stand.

I also noticed that we have some birds living in our breezeway. We saw a nest, but I never saw any birds in it and my head hasn't been dive-bombed the way some kinds do when protecting their territory. So, we thought it was built and abandoned. I got the ladder out and it all looked dark in the nest but there was a heaviness to it and some very clear movement when I tried to lift it. It's in an awkward spot to get my camera up there, but I got my phone close enough for a few pics. I counted at least five baby birds in the nest. I decided to move one of our inside security cameras up there to watch them. I'm thinking about making these video montages each day to chronicle their journey. I can also use to determine when the nest is empty since I think I want to clear it out once they're gone. This video is yesterday, but the camera has already gone off twice today. So, I already have footage for the next video. There's been some debate as to whether these are Carolina Wrens or Bewick's Wrens.

That sounds awful. I can't imagine how that must have felt with acid making contact with wounds. I am thinking I should see an ENT for my sinus issues.

Aw, those birds are so cute. Every year, there's a bird's nest outside of my front door. I am always afraid I am going to get dive bombed, but so far it's just a lot of angry, aggressive-sounding little chirps.

Can you use the walking pad while you're typing? Forty-seven calories an hour adds up at the end of the day. My husband used to have a stand up desk, but he stopped using it. I don't know why.

Hello-

I've been doing a mix of workouts, kettle bell, running on the treadmill and today I did a strength training workout.

Apparently, the cherry blossoms peaked yesterday. They peaked earlier than predicted, which is when I booked a hotel room. I'm not surprised. The warm weather brought everything out last week. We're still going, though. I went after the peak last year and it was still beautiful, with plenty of blossoms still on the trees.

I keep waiting to be dive bombed. I think it was peak pandemic, spring 2020, when a robin fledgling sought shelter in this same breezeway. I was trying to protect it from the dogs, but the robins and cardinals ganged up on me and were aiming for my head. These wrens don't seem too bothered by us. I have to get back up there today to replace the camera batteries.

Supposedly, yes. Most people recommend keeping the speed at 2 MPH or less. Anything faster and it becomes very difficult to type. I don't stand still very well, so focusing my movement to gentle walking may improve my overall focus while on my feet. I need to find the balance between standing and sitting. Too much standing also isn't good. Yesterday, I stood for a little over 5 hours of my workday...which is apparently too much. I've been reading that 4 hours should be the max. It did something because my legs felt like I'd been walking all day and my lower back is achy. Was your husband's desk at home or in the office?

Our friend who has allergies to pollen went to DC to see the cherry blossoms with family. He advised it was a great time minus the huge discomfort from the pollen.
