working out for Disney

Good morning,

For those who don't know, I took a trip to Hawaii a few weeks ago. Got some great workouts there in the form of snorkeling and climbing Diamond Head. 😁

Got back last Monday. I'm still not entirely back on East Coast time and had a nasty cold, so yesterday after work was my first day back at the gym. I did the bike and then hit the weights. It didn't feel that intense at the time, but I'm rather sore today. I intended to get up this morning and swim, but that didn't work out (my body decided on sleep over working out...) so today

That sounds AMAZING!!! I've never been to Hawaii, but that's the kind of stuff I'd want to do. I'm sure the snorkeling is incredible and I can't begin to even imagine the views during your climb! My coworker just got back from Hawaii...beautiful pics, but hers was more to see family. I'm sure you'll get back to normal soon...just your body telling you it has to adjust.

I ran last night...short walk to warm up, 5k, and then I thought I'd walk home, but after a little bit, I decided to test my pace in a lighter non-stop jog to see how I'd do if I need to pick up the pace when I'm really tired...so a light jog home after my run and my pace was better than I thought it would be. I'm improving with each run and even had another PR last night for my 5k part even though it was slick from intermittent showers, but that demon voice in my head gets to me some of the time. I have over 2.5 months until I run for any kind of proof of time, so I still have time, but when I read people's posts about what's needed to make a significant difference with Disney...it gives me anxiety. My Christmas themed race is also this weekend. It shouldn't be making me nervous, but I haven't done anything like this in ages and this is my first time ever really running something like this...so, it's causing some stress. I'm sure people are even walking it, so I probably don't have any legitimate reason to fear being last, but it's still in my head. BUT...I guess this is why I'm making myself do some stuff like this...so I get these jitters out of the way before I'm running anything important. I also found out that a college friend will be there, and while that's good and she's nice and very positive, I'm not used to being around anyone I know when doing this. I still have over 2.5 months until I do anything to try for proof of time so I really just need to remember there's time. And the reality...this is all about getting better...and I'm getting better. And even if my proof of time isn't quite fast enough, most sources I've read still say you should get bumped up some by Disney simply by having any kind of proof of time. End freak out (for now)

I also hit the gym this morning. I know I haven't been pushing as hard on the bike since I've started running, which has made it kind of boring, so I did interval work while biking to push my legs a bit more. After warming up, I'd alternate one mile with a minimum speed of 17mph and then one mile where I sprinted...usually 19.5-20+mph. Mileage was around 15.75, which is better than I've been doing. Then I did arms with the 12lb weights, shoulders with the 8s, some abs, and walked a little at the end. The kids want me take them out for a short run tonight. The older one has agreed to try my method so she doesn't crash and burn too soon. We'll see how that goes!

I goofed again. I intended to get up and go to the gym. Had everything ready. I've been sleeping in the basement because there's renovation work going on upstairs. It's pitch black in the basement. Well, pitch black means I will not wake up. I have to have light. So...I overslept. Like, way overslept and got ready for work in ten minutes. So...we shall try again tomorrow.

Good evening.

I did not good today. Mainly because I planned the gym for after work.

Swan for thirty minutes. Tredding water thrown in with the laps.

I also made a discovery today. Steam rooms are really not my thing.

Well, you know how much I hate the heat. I despise steam rooms. My toxins and I have coexisted quite nicely for my entire life, so no need to sweat them out now!! :p

They have saunas too, and maybe in winter I'll like those. But the steam room, I feel like I can't breathe in that thing, and I definitely can't see. Big nope. I'll stick with the hot tub.

Since losing my thyroid, I'm always warm now. Still prefer summer, but I overheat so much more easily. Yesterday we were allowed to wear shorts to work. It was glorious

I've really been trying to stay on top of my fitness because I've been eating like a PIG!!!

My parents came into town for the 4th and we've had steaks and brisket all week, courtesy of my hubby...

And let's not forget my patriotic gluten free dairy free brownies...

And deviled eggs...LOTS of deviled eggs!

So, for the working out...I ran for 30 min on Thursday morning and did my full gym workout....yesterday, I woke up and did my full gym workout before work...and today, I ran a 5k race, ran another 3 miles when I got home, did some light biking (5mi), legs and abs, and then went to the pool for about an hour. It was 80 degrees with over 90% humidity at 7am when the 5k started, so you can only imagine how much that all wiped me out.

They make me feel like I can't breathe. They seem so luxurious in tv shows and advertisements, and then you step into one and feel like there's something burning in your lungs. No thank you. I kind of like breathing....it keeps me alive.

That seems like a lot! I'm not sure what the humidity is here now, but it cooled down a lot, thank goodness!! I just can't do the 90s - 100s with no airco!! How you go running in the heat boggles my mind. I get so nauseated when I move too much in that heat.

It's odd, but I think the humidity is having a greater impact on me vs. the heat. I don't feel sick from it, but it's making my heart work harder than normal and after a couple of miles, I've sweat to the point that I can't cool off very well due to the amount of moisture in the air. I can never get a really good picture to illustrate what it's like running here, but we were walking the other day and I took this one from an open air section where we stopped to enjoy the breeze and lower humidity.

That dark tunnel looking section in the upper right is what I'm in for 85-90% of my runs. There's no direct sunlight, but the air just doesn't move in there and all that vegetation makes it a steam bath. And I'm with you and @MinnieM123 - saunas and steam baths may look luxurious, but I wouldn't go out of my way to relax in one. I know, I'm running in a natural version, but I do it to avoid the sun.

I do at least get one nice benefit from braving the conditions...if I'm walking, I can stop to take pictures of pretty stuff :D

Lots of birds and bunnies too, but they usually flee before I can take any pictures.

We all know this, but as a reminder, please remember to drink a lot of water when it's really humid out.

Today here was gorgeous, considering it's summer. There was no humidity (that will change by tomorrow) and the temperature wasn't bad at all. The weather gave me the incentive to climb up a (very small) mountain in the area. There was even a light breeze at the top. Why can't summer always be like today?!!!

Definitely! I have this whole hydration plan I use leading up to runs, and while I will wear my hydration pack on longer runs, I've decided to go back to a hand held bottle for shorter ones.

Sounds like your weather was gorgeous! Also sounds like a nice climb!

Hello-

I've been busy for the past week since my husband was off and we arrived in NC Saturday afternoon. We didn't know how I-95 was going to be on a post 4th weekend, so we left around 4 PM, made it to Richmond and spent the night there, then drove the rest of the way Saturday. It was much better. The last time we came down, we did it all the way through and it took the better part of 11 hours when you factor in eating and bathroom breaks.

We rented this house before through Airbnb and it wasn't as clean as we remembered. The floors hadn't been swept, there were crumbs on the dining room table and there were nail clippings on the floor in our bedroom. I cleaned it up and carried on with my vacation. Then last night, I was watching TV and I noticed sugar ants on the coffee table. It has hinges on it, so I opened it up. There were loads of tiny ants inside dining on crumbs inside. So, my husband turned over the table and I swept up the crumbs. I sent her a text letting her know and I mentioned the house was a little dirty when we arrived. I also told her I wasn't complaining, but letting her know as a remote owner what was going on.

She called me about 10 minutes later and she was on the defensive. I swear, the text I sent her was non-combative and I was just basically letting her know about the ants to tackle that before it becomes a bigger issue. She immediately tells me she's had the same "maid" for years and she usually has people telling her how spotless the house is. I told her about the this pile of sand the floor that looked like someone dumped sand out of their shoe and she freaking laughs maniacally at me, like I am some naive idiot who doesn't understand what a beach house is supposed to be like. I told her I knew there is going to be some sand in a beach house, but this was a small pile of sand on the floor. Then I told her about the nail clippings on the bedroom floor and she just turned it around on me by saying that she usually gets comments on how clean her house it. Honestly, I was just letting her know how her "maid" was cleaning. She offered to have the "maid" clean it today, but I already cleaned up after her. She never said anything like, "Thanks for letting me know." Anyone else would keep quiet and write a poor review. That's another thing, she threatens legal action if you don't let her vet your review on Airbnb first. I'm not sure how legally binding that is, but it points to the direction this woman is a pain in the backside. I couldn't sleep last night because I was so livid that she laughed at me when I told her about all of the sand I ended up sweeping up from the floor and then I was wondering if I am being too picky. I wasn't looking for renumeration or anything like that. I honestly was letting her know about the haphazard cleaning. This is a really nice house for the area. It is really cute, well-kept and it's a 5 min walk to the beach, if that. Lesson learned, keep my mouth shut and let others blast them in a review.

Anyway, I brought my yoga mat down with me and I did 60 min yesterday. I am going to do a shorter practice today and get out for a walk before it storms.

Yesterday, we made a steam pot with crab legs, shrimp, kielbasa, andouille, baby potatoes and corn. It was really tasty.

Yoga favor...the friend running the 5k with me at Disney is sort of hitting a lull and decided she really prefers yoga to running. That's not to say she's not going to train for the race, but the yoga makes her happier. She's feeling some burnout with the YouTube videos she's been using (no idea which ones) and is trying to cut costs and not hit the pricey studios since she's already paying for the Y. I don't know what videos she's been watching and I think we've established that I don't know a ton about yoga :hilarious:, but she likes Vinyasa flows as well as things that focus on strength and balance. Any YouTube recs for her would be GREATLY appreciated :)

Here are some channels I use:

There are a few 30 minute classes here, you just have to dig around.
