working out for Disney

Hello-

I did an "8 minute tabata workout" this AM. Once I added the warm up, cool down and stretching, it was closer to 25 minutes. :)

I noticed ever since I've started doing these workouts again, my weight has been creeping up. I am in maintenance in Weight Watchers, so I track everything I put in my mouth. I don't know if it's water retention from using weights and kettlebells after not using them for a while? I am enjoying my workouts for the time being and I am not ready to go back to yoga. It's not like a massive amount of weight, it's like 3 lbs over 4-5 weeks. I feel like I am working out harder and it's frustrating to see the scale moving in the wrong direction. Anyway, it's just a little vent. :p

My 20th anniversary is next week, so I am having a no holds barred dinner to celebrate. :hilarious:

Well, it's a huge warehouse, 2 floors, so there's no way that fans help. They have standing fans at a couple of the packing stations, but that only helps the people who are working at one of those packing stations. And since the biggest part of the job is walking orders, (16,000 steps today) and you are basically walking the length of half a football field, back and forth, pushing a big cart, there's no way to have a fan on you when you are walking orders. Ventilation is ALWAYS a problem, because it's a physical job...you are always active/moving. But normally, it's bearable. But when it gets over about 25 Celsius outside, it starts to get uncomfortable, and this week has been between 30-35 all week except today. I would imagine we were over 100 Fahrenheit on Tuesday, at least upstairs, so without any windows or any way to circulate the air, it's basically a sweatshop.

That's awful. I mean, I know it's work, but they really should find some way for you all to work safely when temperatures rise like that. You say sweatshop and my mind instantly goes to the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory fire. At some point, they need to figure out something.

@HouCuseChickie this has some nice gf/df recipes View attachment 384585 She uses nuts for some of the cheeses so that may not work out for you but may give you some work arounds. See if your library has it

As long as I can keep the nuts out of stuff like the food processor, blender and stand mixer...I'm good. I just get afraid of nut bits and oils getting trapped in those devices and possibly causing a reaction. Still, I'll have to look into this because I really need to get some new dishes in my line up.

That sounds absolutely awful. Flying when you have stomach issues is the worst.

I like my MIL (outside of the fact she loves to talk over me), but her food sanitation skills are non. Whenever we go over for Christmas, she serves this massive turkey for Christmas dinner. There's never enough in her room in her fridge, so she keeps in the oven--for days. I never eat turkey after the first time it's served, even though she serves it for dinner the next few nights. What kills me is she acts like I am a prima donna for not eating it.

I was just so afraid I'd have an accident on the plane.

My husband and I get into it over how long it's safe to eat meat after it's been cooked. I'm usually good for 3-4 days on a turkey, but I also thaw mine in the fridge. I don't think I'd knowingly eat a turkey that was air thawed in the oven. That really scares me. Other meats aren't so bad, but poultry...not so much. And definitely not a prima donna for not wanting to come down with food poisoning over Christmas dinner!

I decided I'm going to work out later today. I have to go to the doctor later on (just an annual visit) and it would have put cleaning up after a workout in conflict with some scheduling. On top of that, I took some meds last night that knocked me out. I was up at 5am, but I had to go right back to sleep. Long story short...some meds have gluten and/or dairy in them...and it's often not well labeled. We had several types of stomach meds in the house which can help with some of the issues associated with stomach bugs. I managed to avoid the two that had gluten, but I wound up taking the one that had dairy. I had tried Googling it before and never found anything negative on it, but I couldn't figure out why my stomach was hurting so much and why the meds that were designed to help this issue just seemed to be making things worse. I tried running last night before making the connection and my tummy was like a soda bottle that had been vigorously shaken again and again. I felt downright awful when I got home. So, I started digging, and that's when I finally found a site showing that these meds were not dairy free. We had a safe antacid I was able to take. I also opted for a Zyrtec (which is what knocked me out). Days of pain and bloating were nearly gone in under an hour!

Obviously, last night was not a good run, but I got the time done (far from the worst of my runs) and I think I'm going to use the climber tonight for my higher intensity workout. I have to get in a longer run tomorrow, but I'm really looking forward to it. Why? Christmas in July!!! 🎄 I wound up registering for that Christmas in July 5K I think I'd talked about and even though I was in a lot of pain last night, running to holiday music is really good! I don't know how much of my music people around me can hear, but Holly Jolly Christmas is one heck of a running song! 😂 I even added a handful of songs to my Christmas playlist. My full Christmas playlist is nearly 5.5 hours of music, but I've trimmed it down to a little over 1.5 hours of music for my holiday running playlist.

She didn't thaw the turkey in the oven, she stored it there after dinner--for three days! 🤢

She made a turkey curry with it and she told me the spices in the curry sauce would kill anything. No. That's not how this works. :hilarious:

I'm sorry...I misunderstood. Still, that's awful! That reminds me of the Seinfeld episode where George's dad has flashbacks to his days as a military cook, when he tried to make old meat work with creative spicing and prep.

Who would have thought that there was dairy (or even gluten for that matter) in some meds? I would have thought maybe vegans can't use tablets that have a gel coating, in case there is gelatin in the coating. I guess antacids might have dairy, since those have calcium in them?

My MIL is the same way...of course, over here no one just cooks a whole Turkey or Chicken or ham, etc. (I do) But MIL is totally relaxed about things that won't fit in the fridge....she'll leave a pot of soup with meat in it for days, so I never eat soup there. And when I was growing up, we were always taught to put leftovers in the fridge as soon as possible...is that what you learned? Because my MIL taught my husband that you should always wait until it's cooled down completely before you put it in the fridge. My husband will make this dish for DS, and it takes a couple hours of simmering. So he'll start cooking it after dinner, and then turn it off before he goes to bed, and leave it to cool overnight before putting it in the fridge. I won't eat that, either.

I had to look that up as I had never heard of it. I guess I am fortunate that our building is only 2 stories, so if we had to jump out of the windows in the break room, the worst we'd suffer is broken bones. But I think the company would fail an inspection miserably. For example, on the ground floor, the perimeter of the building is a fire escape route. There's not supposed to be anything within a couple of feet of the walls, so if a fire breaks out, and you can't see, you can follow the wall to reach a door. But there's CONSTANTLY stuff up against the wall...I even mentioned it once and was told there was nothing they could do about it, because there was no where else to put that stuff. And if you were upstairs, you'd be lucky to find the stairwell in a fire. They do prop the doors open now, which is actually against fire code, because they are big heavy fire doors meant to keep a fire from spreading, but when it gets so hot in the summer, keeping those doors closed just locks in the heat even more. A few years ago, they had a thermometer upstairs and in a heat wave, it was 111 degrees up there. And it's not just fire hazards...someone sprained a rib a couple of years ago because there was a zip tie on the floor that her foot caught in and she fell straight forward. I swear sometimes that I'm the only one who knows how to empty a trash can and put plastic in the plastic recycle containers...there's always trash all over the floor. I've slipped on these little plastic sheets that go between the thumb and fingers of mittens/gloves....they fall out, and people don't pick them up, and they can lie there for weeks, and you step on one, and it slides. There are places where the floor is so ripped up that there are potholes in the main path and you trip over that, or slide on the rubble. I can't have my phone on the work floor...I should sneak it in sometime and take pictures. It's really not a safe place to work. Between the violations of escape routes, lack of knowledge of escape routes (I've worked there for over 10 years, and this is the first year I've ever experienced a fire drill and I had no idea where I was supposed to go, so I just followed everyon else....turns out they were wrong. Even the managers didn't know where the nearest exit was...I asked if we shouldn't have taken this one door....the manager was like...."Oh...yeah....I guess that IS the closest one." ), to just the slipping hazards, tripping hazards, things that fall on you, boxes too heavy that they want you to lift over your head...if they were inspected, they'd be shut down.

I'm sorry about the allergy issues on your stomach...that must be miserable!! Glad you figured out what it was.

Love that you are running to Christmas music now!!

Yes. I was taught that left overs should be refrigerated within 2 hours. My husband used to wait until things were 100% cooled before sticking them in the fridge. That is old advice. People did that because they thought sticking warm food in the fridge would overwhelm it. Maybe once upon a time that was the truth, but not anymore. Fridges can cope with warm food now.

In the past few years, I have had two bouts of food poisoning, one of which I am sure was listeria from eating French brie made with raw cow's milk that my husband left out too long and didn't tell me or throw it out. I am overzealous about food safety now. I've probably thrown out food that was good, just to err on the safe side.

My mom worked a 2nd job in a grocery store when I was in college, and she sometimes had to clean the deli. She was taught about cross-contamination of meats and such, and she started bleaching everything. I had to finally ask her to rinse it after she bleached it when I was home, because everything tasted like bleach, but she was really serious about sanitizing everything. And then, there are the studies about kitchen sponges....that people don't change them for months and they just spread bacteria. My MIL is one who wants everything to LOOK clean, so she will wipe everything down, but not necessarily with a clean cloth. I won't use a cloth more than once. Once I've wiped down the counter, table, etc (with bleach), the cloth goes into the laundry, and all those things get washed at 60 Celsius to make sure bacteria is gone! I'm not a clean freak like my MIL, but what I clean, I want to be CLEAN, not just look nice.

In high school, we had cooking classes. (You'd never know it -- I'm a lousey cook! :p ) But the main takeaway for me was the food safety lessons that they drilled into our heads. The two hour rule is about standard. And our teacher always told us that rhyme, too -- "When in doubt, throw it out." It floors me when I see people try to save a few bucks by not throwing out something that could potentially make a person ill. Just NOT worth it.

I remembered reading about it and had done some research, but when I couldn't initially find anything on the one med, I thought I was in the clear. Now I know better.

The 5k is next weekend...so, July 6th. It feels a bit early for Christmas in July, but it should be fun and hopefully my parents can partake in the post-race goodies that I likely won't be able to eat. I've seen the longer local races note that running with headphones is not advised, but not prohibited. I haven't seen anything with the shorter races. It's normally just a safety thing since most people run with some kind of buds or pods that often make the wearer unable to hear anything but their music. Mine rest over my ears, so I can hear everything going on around me...right down to the lizards and bunnies trying to quietly shift away from the paths.

Wow! Markets closed on the 26th! We have many that are even open for part of the 25th. Still, I don't blame you. Cheese sandwiches are a step up from praying to the porcelain over some poorly kept poultry!
