working out for Disney

It's not worth the risk. You can't out-maneuver bad weather and you can't withstand low oxygen environments. I think social media fuels a lot of this. I think there are a lot of things people wouldn't do if it meant they couldn't broadcast it to the world. I am convinced yoga is one of these things. I don't think it would be as popular as it is if it wasn't for Instagram. There are so many women who do various yoga poses in bikinis on the beach. There are naked yoga accounts, too.

I hope your wrist feels better. That sounds awful. Are you taking anything like ibuprofen to help with the pain? I wonder if you have carpal tunnel syndrome?
I think you might be right about the social media. I think people take unnecessary risks that they wouldn't have taken prior to social media. My teacher climbed back in the 80s, and they were smart about it and called it when it got too dangerous. But now, people will keep pushing because they want to brag on social media about having climbed to the top. So stupid.

My wrist is bad...I'm not sure what carpal tunnel feels like, but this pain is at the back and side of my wrist when I bend my wrist back or when I pick something up or rotate the wrist. It feels similar to the bursitis in my hip, where I just have no strength in it. So I can't use that hand to push myself up when I'm sitting, for example. Or to try to pick up a pan to swirl the oil around in it. Anything that puts my wrist in a position where it's bent backwards hurts.

Hey guys, I have started my workout routine to be fit for Disney a month last month. 4 months to get where I want to be.
Jillian Michaels has been kicking my butt for almost 6 weeks now, and I'm LOVING the results I'm getting. It makes me eat better and feel better all around! Good job everyone :)

Hi! Welcome :) Which Jillian workout are you using? I have her kettle bells, which came with some workouts. Good stuff! The eating better really helps too...not that I'm always good, but I do so much better with my fitness goals when I'm mindful of my nutrition.

I've often wondered about that with yoga. A girl I knew from college is really into acro yoga. All of their pictures were in bathing suits in crazy places and/or scenic spots. It was all interesting to look at and made for good pictures, while also feeling a bit odd. Like, why are you wearing a bikini in the middle of a city parking lot doing poses on old cars? I have several friends who teach yoga, and while every now and then they'll post a pic if they managed a really wild pose (Astavakrasana? I think), most times it's just encouraging people to attend class, yoga etiquette jokes, or how much they enjoy yoga after some other kind of workout day.

I have mixed feelings about yoga. I really enjoy it, but it's become such a big business. It's weird how people here have taken this ancient, spiritual practice and slapped trademarks on the names of classes and names of poses they've strung together into a "flow." It's part of the reason I stopped that yoga program I was doing. She was saying all the "right" things in the classes, but there is a PDF of the program describing the classes and things to meditate upon. So many things were trademarked, it put me off of it.

I don't see how having an IG account that features nothing but yoga poses in a bikini and mala beads in exotic locales is compatible with the entire philosophy of yoga. One of the things I like about yoga is the message to tone down the ego. In yoga, when you're trying to get into full expression of a pose, you're supposed to listen to what your body can do and not what you want to do because you think it looks impressive or the person next to you it is doing it. It's something I try to take off of the mat with me as I go about my day. To me, posting bikini yoga photos seems to be feeding the ego. I don't know, maybe I am wrong. 🤷‍♀️At r/yoga, I once asked how yoga selfies, etc are compatible with not listening to the ego so much and I got some very un-yogalike responses! :hilarious:

Yikes. I hope you can get a doctor to check it out today and get some relief in short order. It's frustrating to not be able to carry out the most basic tasks.

Welcome aboard! Four months is plenty of time to get in shape for a Disney vacation. :)

Good morning--

Checking in with yoga. Today looks like a better weather day, so no more storms. :)

So, I was concerned about my face getting shiny at my interview, since my skin is oily and I am going to be in Houston 😓 . The interview is 4-5 hours, too. This is a strike against you if you look greasy. I have been using Estee Lauder Double Wear and sometimes Hourglass Immaculate with different primers. Neither of them keep me matte for more than an hour or two. I looked around for a solution and people were saying Laura Mercier's Setting Powder is good for keeping the face matte. So, I spent $40 on this stuff and you're supposed to apply it with a power puff. Does it come with a powder puff? No, it does not; that is an additional purchase. I kind of thought a $40 powder might include a puff? :hilarious:

So how much does a powder puff cost? Does it have to be a specific kind of powder puff? Can you just buy powder puffs at walmart or target? I don't wear makeup, so I'm sorry if these are dumb questions...I really have no clue.

Thank you! And I agree. Four months is plenty of time and this first month and a half has been so great, I am starting to enjoy the pain I feel while working out, haha.

Good luck for your interview :D Whew, 4-5 hours is very long. I hardly ever use foundation during the summer. I don't know whether this is available in the US, but during the summer I use something called "M.Asam Magic Finish". It is like a lightly tinted primer, that is supposed to match every skin tone. It keeps my face matte all day and makes my skin look super smooth. It works great for me, while my sister didn't like it at all. It cost me around 20€.

Welcome aboard and you have enough time so don't worry. JM is great but on some days you'll want to walk as far as you can because you need endurance and you'll benefit from mixing things up IMHO. Good luck

Good luck and for that type of heat and humidity you may also want to get Urban Decay All Nighter setting spray. BTW the powder may be best applied with a powder brush for a more natural finish. Get a brush or puff whatever is cheaper;)

I walk quite a lot, actually. I walk to and from work every day, plus most errands I have to run, if possible I'll walk. I wish I could get into running again, but I had surgery on my foot a year ago and running has been difficult ever since.
Now that it's getting hot I wan to go swimming again on a weekly basis. I am highly motivated :D

When I think of yoga today, it reminds me of the Charlie Brown Christmas special and how Lucy remarks that it's now all run by some big eastern syndicate. Still, I think it's a fair comparison. Commercialism and capitalism latches onto something rooted in spirituality and turned it into some kind of corporate monster because of the cash cow potential. Back before the kids were born, a friend tried getting me into some yoga and pilates videos and while I didn't have any background in either one, I guess I expected more spirituality and centering vs. "feel the burn." That was my sign that things were happening, but not having a yoga base before it, I had very little frame of reference. Now I'm even more lost with all of the current yoga posts and class descriptions.

Ultimately, the posts from that acro-yoga friend felt more like showboating than an actual love for yoga. I'm sure many of these selfies and IG accounts are the same. Of course, these are the same kinds of people who have to get the perfect selfie at the Grand Canyon and wind up going over the edge.

Yeah, a lot of the powder comes with nothing these days, but I agree with @figmentfan423 about a brush. My 12 year old even informed me that my foundation should be applied with a brush. I had no idea! Obviously, everyone's skin is different, but I have found that I don't need much in the way of powder down here. I needed it all the time when I lived in NJ and NY, but I rarely use it here. I'm wondering if it's because I use a foundation with a matte finish. Of course, I've also been here for some time, so it may also be that my skin has adjusted to the area. Still, I know it's for an interview, so you want to plan in case it really is needed. We will probably be mid 90s when you're here, but humidity may not be awful if it's warmer (unless it rains). It's usually much worse in the mornings. It's 91 right now and humidity is only 54%, but I'm sure it was closer to 85% this morning. What does still react to humidity for me is my hair. I know not everyone has curls that expand and frizz, but if you have hair that reacts, I'd plan for that.

Last night was a 30 min run. The weekday 30 min runs are really to work on speed and last night was a good night. I made major improvements with overall pace, fastest mile, and fastest speed at any point in the run...like over a minute of improvement. I'm going to go off plan for my "long" run this weekend. The training plan only calls for a 1.5 mile run, but I feel like my long run should be longer than my 30 min speed runs, so I think I'm just going to set 5k as my minimum. This morning, I biked a little over 16 mi, did a lot of leg work, and abs time before walking out my legs a bit on the treadmill.

Hi and thanks for the warm welcome :)
I do some of her older workouts. I completed 30 day shred. After that I started alternating the three different workouts and additionally did two short workouts from an app I use: one for abs, one for legs and hips, all in one go. Only around 40 minutes total, but very effective. I rest for a day when I feel like I have to

I think I would like to do start 6 week sixpack next week.
I really enjoy her workouts (after the initial pain, haha).
I have been wanting to try yoga inferno, but I am not very flexible and I would hate to mess anything up by not exercising a pose correctly.
