working out for Disney

I've been feeling kind of blah with my workouts this week. I think my body is recovering from some of the rich food while I ate while my family was in town as well as all of the stress of everything going on outside of that. I can't remember if it was Tuesday or Wednesday where I got up...did 2/3 of my workout and decided to just go back to bed for 25 minutes. One of my coworkers swears the stye I also developed this week is part of this stress. All I know is that I hate having to wear my glasses and it makes me feel like I'm in even more of a fog. Yesterday and today have been better, but trying to get my eating back in order. I think the sugar in the cake really messed with me, but maybe the asparagus risotto I'm trying tonight will help me break out of that. At least I may have a new source of exercise coming my way.

The kids have spring break next week and we decided that this would be the time when we'd look to adding dogs back into our home/family/lives. So, maybe by tomorrow, we'll have some new furry family members who could use some walking time. We're expecting some rain, but temps should be good for walking.

I'm so glad your husband is being supportive! That's nice that he realizes this is important to you. I have a friend who does toastmasters and she loves it. What kinds of group activities do they do? That sounds fun to me, but maybe I'm picturing the wrong kinds of activities.

It's an organization that helps people build confidence with public speaking. I should've joined years ago. I am somewhat soft spoken and dread public speaking, but I know the only way to get comfortable is through speaking publicly. You write and present speeches and other members give you feed back.

Well that's different -- being interviewed by a computer, and not a person! :hilarious: But, because there's no one asking you the questions in person, you might actually relax a bit more, as you're reacting to a computer only.
May I wish you the very best of luck with your interview.

Thanks for the good luck wishes. I think they helped. :)

It was weird at first, but then I got used to it. That said, I would have rather spoken to a human. The questions weren't hard. I think they want to see what you look like and how you present yourself before inviting you for a face to face interview.

What is the new source of exercise? It sounds like stress and diet are doing a number on you. It might not be to take a little break.

I got back from WDW late Wed. afternoon. I felt sluggish from the rich food I ate, too. I started the week out well, then by the end there was brunch at the Cali Grill and late nights in resort bars. We went to Homecomin' on our penultimate day. My stomach felt like a water bed. I have been eating lots of fresh fruits and home cooked meals. I can't stomach another restaurant meal right now.

Post pix if you get some new furry family members! You're getting more than one?

Hello-

Thanks for all the good luck wishes! 💖

This morning I did a "yoga for creativity" class. I wanted something calming before doing this interview. I talked to my laptop a bit more this morning before clicking on the link to begin the interview.

My video interview is done. I feel like I did well. I was able to discuss how my social work experience would be an asset as a flight attendant. My grandfather was a pilot for American and my father worked for American until retirement, so I wove that in there too. LOLI feel like I was poised, affable and made good points, but at the end of day, I still might not be what the want. I am glad it's over. I think I might have a glass of prosecco with dinner tonight to celebrate. lol

It has been so cold yesterday so I have been walking inside :banghead: Today I am bundling up and walking outside this afternoon. I need fresh air and sunshine!! Only 29 more days until our Disney trip! We both are needing a vacation really bad!!

It's not nice up here, either. :cautious: After being in Florida for a week, I am not in a rush to go out for a walk in freezing temps.

LOL...the exercise would be walking the new furry family members. Our previous dog wasn't much of a walker after becoming a senior dog. She was just content to zip around the yard a handful of times a day and show the squirrels who was boss. 🤣

I have a few days off for spring break next week, so I'm hoping that helps give me some peace. Dining out is also not in my plans for at least another week. Homecomin' is one of those meals that you go into it knowing it will be heavy, but it's so good. I could probably be reasonably good at Cali Grill, but the drinking definitely takes its toll.

The plan is to rescue two dogs. We had always wanted to be a two dog household, but Daisy wasn't fond of being around other dogs. The dog we had before Daisy was downright aggressive towards other dogs, but Daisy was usually just aloof, so we were hoping it would work. About 5 or 6 years ago, we tried fostering a dog to see if we could make it work, but it was a disaster. The only pro...the foster dog was from the city shelter and was a day away from being put down when we started the foster process. So, the foster window restarted the adoption clock for her and hopefully gave her a new lease on life. It should be interesting, but I'll be sure to post pics if we find new fur babies this weekend.

Hello,

I got back home around dinner time last night. The final two days were so cold. I was wearing my winter coat. :cautious:

I did a lower body work out this morning. I did pretty much keep up with my workouts while I was away.

So, last night I had dinner and formulated potential responses for my video interview tomorrow. I had been researching while at WDW here and there. There is no human on the other end. There is a computer voice that gives you the question with a minute to think about it. Then you get three minutes to respond. So I am going to be talking to my laptop, basically. :p I am nervous about this, but I'm guessing a lot of others are, too.

My husband has been really supportive. While I was gone, he went to Macy's and bought me a new black blazer to wear tomorrow. He even offered to "help" me tomorrow. I declined, since I feel like I have this under control and I can't take him with me to Dallas for the face to face interview. I want to do this all under my own steam. :hilarious: He was even discussing how to make this work if I am hired and I get placed in another city other than PHL. This is such a sea change for him!

I am going to fine tune my potential responses and practice talking to my laptop today. Tomorrow is basically about seeing how you present yourself and how you speak. It sounds like the questions are pretty tame, but I am taking nothing for granted. LOL

If I feel like my interview went well and I have a shot at a face to face, I am going to join Toastmasters. I feel like I need help with public speaking. The next round is all group interviews with group activities where they watch you interact with others. That is what fills me with dread...

It sounds like you made some good points and were able to throw in some good info. Hopefully it will lead to some good news...and at the very least, you'll have a nice drink and dinner :) That in itself is a good thing!

Duh...I didn't even put two and two together about getting a dog and more exercise. 🤦‍♀️

I had two dogs one time. One was a mini poodle and the other was a Jack Russell Terrier. They had this love/hate thing going on. They were like two dysfunctional people living together. My Jack Russell died suddenly. My poodle was upset. He was whining and spent the few days afterwards searching for him all over the house. It was really difficult to watch.

I've thought about fostering a dog, but I have some reservations.

We've never technically had two at the same time, but back when my husband bought our first house, we had my FIL's two black labs for about 6-7 months. I really enjoyed that time and I think the dogs appreciated being inside dogs while with us. I'm sure it was tough watching your poodle experience that kind of grief, but it just goes to show that animals have a much deeper bond than some people would like to admit.

We didn't initially go into it wanting to foster, but it was more of a foster to adopt sort of situation, so we figured we'd give it a try. I can't see us doing that again.

Oh sorry...I just realized I wasn't clear. I know what toastmasters is. I meant what kind of group activities does the airline do in the interview process? You said they do group activities and watch you interract, and you were dreading that part....that sounds fun to me, so I was wondering what they do?

Sorry! I misunderstood what you were asking.

So, from what I can gather, they start watching you from the minute you walk in the facility. Before the activities begin, you're supposed to mix and mingle with other candidates. Recruiters watch you from a balcony above to see how you interact with others. Then they split you into two groups and you do an activity. It sounds like you have to find three things you all have in common and one thing unique to yourself. But one person has to emerge as the leader--this is reduces your chances of getting cut. Then, you present your three things to the other group. Then, there is an interview with 4 other applicants. You have to follow all directions, or they take you out of the running. I mean, all directions. I guess then there is a benefits presentation and finally a one on one interview with a recruiter. You can be told to go home at any point throughout the day. If they take you on, they finger print you and you do a reach test to see if you can reach the overhead bins. Then you get a conditional job offer.

I read that someone went to an interview and of over 30 candidates, they selected only three.

I am not so much worried about the group activity, it's the "Survivor" aspect of it. I'm not someone who's willing to step on someone's toes to make myself look good.

It sounds like such a detailed process. In the end, you just have to do your best and do what's comfortable for you. I can understand not wanting to step on people's toes and hopefully the recruiters will favor candidates who are compassionate and professional vs. excessively cutthroat and ruthless.
