working out for Disney

An almost soul food supper. Probably needed some fried okra and maybe some cornbread to qualify as soul food, but it was good. Marinated the thighs in pickle juice then grilled with Penzey's and then glazed with Heinz Memphis BBQ Sauce, served with collards and black eyed peas, tomato and a piece of toast on the side. Good stuff. I did sprinkle the collards and peas liberally with hot sauce after the pic was taken. Served with iced tea of course. Mine was sweetened with splenda, which is not the same, but better than unsweetened iced tea any day.

So we went to buy a Polaris Slingshot today. Closest dealer was about an hour away and I have been talking to a salesperson there several times on the phone. This was to be for my wife, who is kinda crazy about these things since we have been seeing them often cruising around the mountains.
The dealer got in a brand new 2019 Slingshot S in white, which is the model and color she wanted. The 2018 S was only available in black. 2019 S is only available in white, so bingo! Her color.
Got there and it was sitting out front beside a green 2018 SL Icon model that was quite sharp too. We talked with the rep and learned all the details and specs and decided the S model was the one, though the dealer did have many more models at several different price points inside. You can spend a ridiculous amount of money upgrading and customize these things.
She climbed in and it seemed to fit her OK, but a little tight. Since this was going to be mostly her toy, I tried out the passenger side, and there was no legroom at all. I was sitting there with my knees way up almost to my chest, with no room to stretch out at all. It put me in a position that I probably could only ride in for maybe an hour. Seems the exhaust comes down in front of the passenger compartment and that is the reason for the limited legroom. Yes, they put heat shields there, which is supposed to help with heat coming into the cockpit, but we will never know how well that works.
When I tried the driver's side, there was more leg room, but the passenger side was too cramped for her too.
So, we did not even take it for a test ride, though the rep was convinced once we drove it, that would change our mind. No, the reason for selling the motorcycle was to upgrade to something more comfortable, and maybe safer too. Since it was uncomfortable just to sit in, no need to even do the scheduled test drive.
Oh well, saved 20 plus thousand dollars, plus countless more in future mods and upgrades, but we were both a little sad to not bring it home.

Hi all. I'm trying to get all caught up on the board. We went to Germany for a week in mid-July and had nightmares with internet, so I was way behind. Then when we came back, I worked every night that week, and we've had one heck of a heatwave so I've been avoiding the computer. But I'm afraid if I don't catch up NOW, I'll never get there, and the heat is showing no signs of going away...the forcast is in the 90s for the foreseeable future. Last week was MISERABLE...code orange with advisories to avoid physical activity in the afternoon and to make sure to drink a lot of fluids. It was over 100 degrees, and without airco, it was brutal. They actually bought cooling towels for work, but they only bought 12, and there are like 50 people working at any given moment. So they have been handing out popsicles every day to combat the heat. When I'm home, I've been sitting in a nice cool bathtub and reading. I'm reading some books about Autism right now. I am getting my exercise with work and vacation days, but it's a bit too hot for much more than walking. Hope all is well with everyone!!
Welcome back! Safe hydrated and safe

Yes please. Starting tomorrow it's supposed to clear out and get warm. I hope the rain heads your way.
We're supposed to be in the 90s for at least another week. I'm so tired of it. It wouldn't be so bad if we had air conditioning. My body just doesn't handle the heat well and there's nowhere to go to get relief from it. DD is already sleeping downstairs on the couch because her room faces the sun the whole day and is the hottest room in the whole house, so she's escaped downstairs. But even with the fan on and my cooling towel draped over me, it's still too warm. We can't seem to get it cooled down, even opening the windows at night. It's been this way for several weeks now and there have been several fires in the area because we haven't had any moisture. There was a trash heap that caught fire, and a haystack I think. I wish I was in Disney! It may be hot there, but at least there's air conditioning, and plenty of entertainment!!

No A/C stinks. I can do 90s and humid with a fan but even I work out early or late and stay hydrated.

That looks really sleek. Stupid question -- I've never seen these before, so where do you drive them? Is this an off-road thing? Sorry, I really don't know. (I feel bad for your wife as she wanted one, but seriously--if the seat didn't feel comfortable, she was right not to buy it. I'm calling b.s. on the salesman--reminds me a little of the shoe salesperson who is out of your size, but suggests 1/2 size smaller--because it will "stretch out" in time . . .:cautious:

The sleek looks is what caught her attention. Slingshots are a kinda cross between motorcycle and car and are fully street legal though many states require you to wear motorcycle helmets when in one. Our idea was for it to be a toy to cruise around the mountains here on weekend road trips, maybe up to The Smokies and on up the Blue Ridge Parkway like we used to do on the motorcyle. Just another toy to replace an older toy and this seemed more motorcycle like than just a regular car convertible.
As for the salesman, he said they actively encourage test rides (which most motorcycle dealers do not) because once someone who is undecided drives it they are sold. He said most people come back from the test drive with a smile on their face and memories of when they were young and took their first ride in a go-kart. He said that grown up go-kart ride and futuristic look does most of the selling for him, especially to us baby boomers.

Score! I got plums the other day and I have really been enjoying them. It's not something I buy out of season, but they are so refreshing right now!!! Mandarines are great too!

They didn't even have any at the grocery store I go to every day. I had to go to a different one and I'm not sure how much I paid for them, but produce here is massively expensive anyway. Way more than in the US. But I don't care, because they taste so good!!!

So do you just eat the plums raw or do you use them in pies and tarts and stuff like that?

Did some grilling this evening - pinwheel steaks stuffed with spinach and herbs, chicken stuffed with broccoli and cheese, and some Italian sausage for spaghetti sauce for tomorrow or the next day.

I grilled burgers on the grill last night. We only needed two, but the package had 4 so I cooked them all. When they were done, I brought out the plate and spatula to the grill. As I was scooping one up under the spatula, it fell off, and through the grates into the coals! Next one was o.k. Third one fell off and ended up in the coals too!! :jawdrop: Fourth one was safe. :p

Moral of the story--buy 4 burgers, if you only really need two! :hilarious: :hilarious:

The organic plums were the most expensive thing we got yesterday $1.99 a pound. I only got 8.

Only EIGHT? That's a lot of plums! ;)

No fruit in my house gets turned into pies, jam, tarts and such unless I bought it by the bushel:banghead::banghead::banghead:

BUSHEL? I've never bought a bushel of anything! :D
