THNX everybody around here seems to have caught that 3 week bug including my dh. Last week I was mostly very tired and sneezed all the time so who knows. At the first sign I started taking lemon, garlic and honey and I'm thinking it may have cut down on some of the symptoms

Ick. I usually make a "tea" of lemon, honey and hot water and I find that helps with a sore throat. Hope you're all feeling better soon.

So sorry to hear about your grandmother. We're thinking my FIL has Parkinson's. He's sooooo shaky and unsteady now. Does your grandma have any other family that lives closer?

My mom does, but she works overnights a lot. My grandmother's sister is 15 minutes away. When the weather is OK, she takes my grandmother to her appointments, but she lives outside of Chicago, so the weather is rarely "OK" in the winter months. ;)

The shakiness and unsteadiness you're describing in your FIL is how it started with my grandmother. It is worth it for him to get diagnosed sooner rather than later, because you can delay the progression somewhat with meds. She was here in the summer and a few times, she would need to sit down immediately and someone would have to help her to the nearest chair. I thought it was something else, but that was the beginning, I guess. When I went to her house for Thanksgiving, she was using a walker and out of nowhere, she would need to sit down and her right hand would start shaking vigorously. My mom has been telling my husband she thinks I am not helping out enough, but I don't know what I can do other than visiting for a week every month or so. I can't move in and fly back to NJ at the weekends, you know? I didn't choose to move away. This job in NJ was the only job offer my husband received after being let go.

Well what does she expect you to do from hundreds of miles away? Sheesh. Plus, you have your own family to take care of as well...who takes care of them if you're gone taking care of your grandmother? It seems kind of unrealistic to expect you to leave your family to their own devices so you can take the burden off her.

Sympathy like. Maybe you should buy your mom a map for her birthday

Good Monday morning! We had a wonderful weekend with our DD and SIL. My grand-doggie loved his toys. He destroyed a rope tennis ball thingy in about 15 mts! It was too funny!
Now for a normal week. Groceries and laundry on the list. Walking outside if this rain dries up.

I think she is upset that she is the only one taking care of her. I honestly would pitch in if I still lived in IL. At this point, my grandmother pretty much carries out her activities of daily living herself. She surrendered her license last summer, but other than that, she cooks, showers, etc. My husband said that my mom has been making remarks about how there is room in our house for the both of them. NO. My mother is very manipulative and moody. She gives silent treatments and slams doors when she's angry. She was angry with me once and threatened to call child protective services and on my husband and me. When my son was a toddler, she said she saw my husband punch our son in the crotch and told my family about it. I asked her about it last year and she said she doesn't remember saying that. OK, then. I refuse to walk on eggshells in my own house.

Hello-

I am going to try to workout today. I slipped down a few steps yesterday and nothing hurt afterwards, but I am a little bit sore today. The bottoms of my feet, one wrist and a shoulder blade are sore. :hilarious:

My husband got me an early Valentine's day present yesterday. He got me a membership at the Philadelphia Museum of Art, so we went there yesterday afternoon. There was an exhibition of European paintings that a Philly lawyer collected during his lifetime. He passed away in 1917 and bequeathed this collection to Philadelphia. It is hard for me to imagine having that kind of money to be able to collect these paintings, but I appreciate that he left collection to the public to enjoy. The paintings were by "big names." Then we walked around in the park outside the museum, since it was relatively mild outside. It was an enjoyable Sunday afternoon, despite it being rainy and gloomy. :)

{{HUGS}} I could have sworn your town had a limit on how many adults could live under one roof.:angelic::angelic::angelic::angelic: or doesn't your "guest room" need to be gutted and redone?:angelic::angelic::angelic::angelic::angelic: DIYs take forever:angelic::angelic::angelic::angelic::angelic::angelic: Is there a semi assisted situation that would work for her out there?

The like is for the present but take it easy until you heal up. All I got for me over the weekend was a $5 pair of clearance Danskin imitation sketchers at Walmart. I like them and for me they work as well as the "real ones" I was going to replace my sneakers but James needed clothes AGAIN:banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead:

Ah, so it's not so much that she has to take care of her mom, but that no one is taking care of HER? She wants the easy life where someone else is working and taking care of all the daily stuff and she can relax and enjoy retirement?

Ohh that's nice! I wish we had museums around close by. I love walking and looking in museums! Nice day for you.

My mom does work, but otherwise you've summed it up. My mother is a very "transactional" person and my grandmother paid for certain things in my life while cash was tight when we were kids, so I think my mom is going to pull, "Your grandmother did so much for you and now it's your turn to return the favor." Not to get into specifics, but I have done stuff for my grandmother and paid for things for her. Not because I "owed" her, but because she looked after everyone else and I wanted to show her I appreciated her.

I do not accept invitations from my mom to go shopping or out to eat. I don't accept gifts outside of my birthday and Christmas. They all come with strings attached.

I am glad I have only one and I have stopped letting him come grocery shopping with me. He puts a bunch of organic fruit ($$$) in the cart and eats it all within 24 hours. Then he'll send me a text from school asking me to get more...:cautious:
