I have been busy unpacking. We moved in Tuesday and my husband left for DC that night. So it's just been me unpacking and making very slow progress. BUT, I did workout yesterday and I am sore today. I found this 12 week program online (they are circuits that change up every 2 weeks), so I'll just do that until I get bored.
I haven't been sleeping well, since a) I am in a new house on a somewhat busy street and b) my husband is in DC for work. So, I was in the dead of sleep this morning when I heard this *crash* of glass and my house alarm went off. It jolted me out of my sleep and I wear a sleep mask, so I had no idea what time it was. I thought someone was trying to break in. I grabbed the scissors I had been using in my room to open moving boxes and made my way towards the door. I wanted to see if my son was okay. He opened the door was running around like a chicken with its head cut off and yelling at me to turn the alarm off. It turns out he was making breakfast and he dropped a plate. I then looked at the clock and saw it was coming up on 9 AM. He didn't disarm the alarm and it can recognize the frequency of breaking glass. My heart was racing and I think my adrenal glands pumped out a week's worth of adrenaline.
I have a degree in Nursing so I certainly know the importance of working out and staying healthy. I actually start my 1st Official Nursing Job at an Urgent Care Facility on October 3rd.
Got back from two weeks in WDW last week. I gave myself several days to recover. Didn't feel too good for a couple of days (female issues), but now I'm getting back to working out.
Yesterday I only did about 20 minutes. I did two 10-minute segments on my Pilates DVD, the ab workout and arm and shoulder shaper.
Today, I wandered around Target, and decided while I was wandering to get some decent workout clothes and stop working out in old t-shirts and my PE shorts from high school. I bought two new athletic shirts, a pair of legging that are supposed to come down to halfway down the knee on most people but are down to my ankles (still look good though) and a better pair of athletic shorts that fit better.
And before you ask, I didn't just wander Target and buy workout clothes. I actually used them. I did 30 minutes on my mini trampoline and then 30 minutes on the statinary bike. Tomorrow will probably be a strength training and abs day, Sunday another cardio day, and then we'll see next week as I am restarting school and starting a new job. Thinking Mondays will be off days.
I'm thinking about investing in a Fitbit. I'm doing a long three week trip to California and then to WDW in January, and it would be interesting to see how many steps I do in DL per day vs. WDW, but I think I need to do some research. I don't want to be nagged by it if I lay on my bed all day because I have a migraine or asthma symptoms, which does happen.
Another good place for workout clothes is Old Navy. Sign up for their email and you'll get notice of their sales. Last fall, I got two pairs of capris, 3 tanks and 2 sports bras for $80 all in--shipping included. I once bought a tank top and yoga shorts at Lululemon and it cost me $112 for two pieces. Never again. Don't get me wrong, they are cute and I bought them about three years ago. But they don't have the gusset in the shorts, just a regular seam and because of that some yoga poses aren't so comfortable.
I have a Fit Bit One and it doesn't make any noise or vibrate to "nag" me into motion. I notice if I put it flat on a surface, after a minute the little screen will flash something like, "MOVE IT" or STEP ON IT," but it's silent.
I would never consider Lululemon because of their outrageous prices. I can get decent workout clothes and bras at Target. I even went to a specialty store for new bras and asked about a sports bra, and it was SO uncomfortable. I prefer my Target one. More comfortable and about $50 cheaper. I'll have to keep Old Navy in mind. I just went with Target because I happened to be in there anyway.
I went for a walk today to see how long it would take to for my son to get to his new HS, since he lives too close for bus service and then I did a Jessica Smith workout when I got back. Other than that, I have just been busy putting my house in order.
LOL Kohl's is notorious for marking up their merchandise and then having these "mega, blow out" sales. My mom shops there and she's always telling me, "Look, I saved $X on all of this stuff."
Sometimes they're a joke with their prices. However, other times, you really can get some great buys there. There have been times that I've price compared things like brand name coffee pots, for example, with them and other stores like Bed Bad and Beyond, and Lowes, to name a few. Sometimes when Kohls has a good sale, and then has 15-20% coupons off in addition to that, you really can save money.
Yea, it is here too. I have created a monster by getting my grandson interested in golf. He starts his High School Career on Monday and has decided that he wants to get in one more round of golf before he starts so he wants to do it tomorrow. I don't mind the heat normally, but, with the humidity at about 110% it is a little sticky. I guess I'm starting to get concerned about my age and my exposure to adverse conditions. Something I never used to even think about, much less be concerned about. Anyway, we are going out very early when the temperatures will be in the low 70's but the humidity will still be repressive. With any luck I'll live through it. Wish me luck.
It might also be because on the third hole there is a small marker on the tee with the name of a person about my age that bought the farm on that spot a year or so ago. It's a little disheartening to see it. I'd rather not be reminded. Especially since he was younger them I am.

Evening everyone. Busy day today. My grandfather passed away a few weeks ago, and his wife is moving from their house to an apartment that's more manageable for her, so we went over to her house today, and she gave us some stuff that she's not taking to her apartment. We moved a bunch of stuff from her house into the two SUVs and then moved the stuff back into our house. So that was a nice workout there. We don't have it yet, but she's giving us her treadmill! Yea! Been wanting one for a while. Then this evening I did three ten-minute segments on my Pilates DVD.
In other news, I have decided that I am no longer going to step on my scale. I've been doing a lot of research about my body type, and it all comes up with the same thing: my weight is NOT a good measure of how healthy I am or how in shape I am. So I have dumped the scale in favor of other measurements, such as the size of my waist. I also got a heart rate tracker app for my phone so I can track my heart rate during workouts and keep an eye on my resting heart rate. I took it tonight, and my resting heart rate was 61 bpm. That's right around where it should be. I'm also focusing on other good things that have happened, like that I had to buy new shorts at the beginning of this summer because my old ones were too big, the fact that I've had to throw some shirts in the dryer because they're too big,
Or that I had to buy new bras this week because I dropped a cup size. Which I wanted very much to do.
So no more scale for me. I am not going to step on one unless it's at the doctor's office. It's not a good measure for me, and for my body type, it's more discouraging than helpful.

I'm far from an expert on this subject, but I have read that the best indicator for anyone is the test for body fat amount. (There's a few ways to do that--small calipers are one.) I think it's referred to as BMI (body mass index).
As you stated, pounds on the scale only give one component of overall healthy size, and don't take into consideration everything else, including bone structure, etc.

I totally despise humidity; it drains me of my energy and gives me headaches if the heat index is also very high.
With regard to your spoiler, I'd disregard the marker near that tee. Sure, your chances of keeling over inch up the older you get. However, please don't lose sight of the fact that people as young as kids, can drop dead from any number of reasons. Happens rather frequently. So, I think you've pretty much beaten the odds at this point, and I wouldn't worry too much about your possible demise, anytime soon. (Love the new avatar as well.)
Hi buddy!! Yes, I'm always up early--even on the weekends. I have to be up early on work mornings and wish I could sleep in on a weekend, but that never happens. (Wait until Figgy gets back--she's always on early, too!!)

I only get on the scale about once or twice per month. I used to every day, but that got discouraging. Yes, plenty of other measures of how well you are doing. For me, the number one indicator is just how I feel over all. Stamina level, vision and level of thirst tell me a lot.
Good for you relying less on the numbers on a scale. Internal indicators mean a lot, especially during the period when you are changing fat tissue to muscle. Muscle weighs more and you want more of the good stuff.

I have friends who like to sleep in on the weekends. Does not work for us. Internal clock says "Hey sleepyhead, time to get up. There is a sunrise headed our way and you don't want to miss it."

^^^^This!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I stepped on the scale for grins and giggles when I got home , but only because it was in the direct path of where I was walking. I have a few pairs of denim shorts and jeans that give me the best idea of how I'm doing.
