working out for Disney

Good Morning. Okay.....I've done quite a lot of reading here and I must say that I'm impressed. I did not expect to find a group of people dedicated to healthy lifestyle here on the Disney board. I'm pretty excited about it! For years I was very involved on a forum about "clean" eating. I learned a lot while there, tried some things that ended up not being sustainable in the long run, but also developed a lot of good habits that have become my own cornerstones of good living. That forum has become largely inactive now. The program that it was build around having lost steam, as so many programs do. I see that some of you are vegetarian and that others of you are trying to incorporate more veggie only meals into your lives. I'll be honest and just let you know that I am a former vegetarian. I was meatless for ten years and a vegan for two years. Unfortunately it did not work out for me and I had to accept that my body does best with some animal based protein in my daily mix. I have complete respect for those who choose to be vegetarian but I have learned that we each have different needs when it comes to nutrition and that the most important thing we can do is listen to our own bodies and take the path that is right for us as individuals.

Currently my diet revolves around meals consisting primarily of low starch vegetables and protein. I limit grains, especially wheat. I avoid soy, corn, and added sugars. I try to stick with whole, unprocessed foods.

A recent foot injury is slowing me down. I'm on a break from cardio for that reason- no elliptical, no treadmill, no stair machine. I'm still doing weight bearing exercise 3 days a week. I walk a lot but I'm restricted to "sensible' shoe choices :( We have a Disney vacation in 31 days and I hope to be back to normal by then.
Oh I'm a carnivore for sure. And I agree about listening to your own body, etc. I've learned for myself and I don't use the phrase "can't have"...like "I can't have a candy bar" because if I tell myself I can't have something, I want it more. For me it's more about moderation and it's easier to make healthier choices if I allow myself a treat sometimes. If I know that the chocolate will be there tomorrow, it's easier to choose an apple today. You do what works for you.

We ate pretty junky food yesterday because it was one of those days where we weren't home in time to cook a real meal and we were watching a friend's daughter while her mom took her sister to a musical as a reward for something. So we had chicken nuggets and fries at home. Tonight I have to work, so I will for sure get my workout in...taking my pedometer to see how much I walk again. But DS has soccer and I go to work at the same time, which is right at the dinner hour, so he and I have to eat early. Hubby and DD and DS are eating pizza for dinner and I opted for a chicken breast and veggie stir fry thing. I need something quick and easy, but I don't want to eat pizza. Sometimes it's hard because our schedules are so crazy. DS has soccer on Mon. and Wed. I have choir on Tues. and DD has musical theater (GRID) on Thurs. Fri is the only day we don't have activities, and Mon., Wed., and Thurs. the activities are at dinner time so we either have to eat early or late...I hate to think what it's doing to my system eating at a different time every day!

Great for you, finding out what works best for your body! It took me forever to find what works for me. Good luck and I hope your better in time for your trip.
I really believe it's a life long process. Not only does each person have different nutritional needs, but I think it changes for us all from time to time depending on other factors in our lives. It can be frustrating for sure.
Thank you for the encouragement and good wishes.

Agreed- any kind of plan that is too rigid is ultimately unsustainable. I must admit I have a problem with that even though I know better. I like rules and structure. Following a set plan toward a goal (fitness or otherwise) is like a game for me, but then eventually I'll stray a bit, see it as a complete failure and then throw in the towel using it as an excuse to binge. So yes, moderation is key. It's about finding that elusive balance. I can talk the talk, but I'm still not there.

Good luck to you with your foot. I 'm currently cutting down on meat, but not out. I did vegetarian for about two years, and like you I need some meat, and eggs. I've been on board for good shoes, for quite a bit now, and the double lined socks, to prevent blisters with all the walking in Disney. Have a great vacation!

I love the Blue Angels and also the Thunderbirds. Haven't seen a great air show with either one of those military precision flying teams, in maybe 15 years. Glad you got to see the Blue Angels recently. :)
We have been going to see them for years. This past weekend was close to home. We are headed out Thursday for Pensacola to the Blue Angels homecoming airshow at NAS Pensacola Friday and Saturday. Two air shows in two weekends...sweet.

Good morning checking in with some kickboxing (Jillian Michaels) and Walk to the Hits Party Songs Leslie Sansone. It's going to be another beautiful day here so I will head out walking with my friends. I like them but I've realized I go more fore their company than calorie burning as they don't walk very fast. I don't really blame them as here it is November and our trees still have a good amount of leaves on them. That and it felt more like September outside yesterday 70s in November just makes me so:joyfull::joyfull::joyfull::joyfull: One more thing before I go yesterday on Dr. Oz The Wheatbelly guy (never can remember his name LOL) had an all purpose baking mix recipe that was grain free which is now up on the Oz site. Have a marvelous day and remember to move it, move it. xoxo

Kickboxing too? You have a wide variety of workouts you do. Is that how you keep up the motivation to keep moving? I find myself getting bored quickly and when it is dreary outside like it is here today, it is much easier to just sleep in instead of getting out and walking in fog and drizzle. Now, with the time change, it is dark by the time we get home.
How do you suggest making exercising more appealing than cuddling up and hitting the snooze button in the morning?
On a side note we went to a local theater production of Mary Poppins last night. It was preview performance night and was very well done. Preview night opening was general admission and we got third row center. The play was very well done, great sets, very good cast and energetic performances by a huge cast. There were a couple of mishaps with the set, but preview night is to work out those things. Only issue for me was it was so long, 2.5 hours with a 15 minute intermission means we did not get home until after 11 p.m. Not in bed till well after midnight makes 6 a.m. get here very soon.
Anyway, thanks for the encouragement.

Sounds like you had a marvelous night. A big thanks to @Sans Souci for bringing this thread back as I was in a bit of a workout rut. Checking in here reminds me to not just get moving 6 days a week but to change things up as well. Once the bad weather kicks in I suggest Leslie Sansone workouts for beginners and quite a few of hers can be found on youtube. A good reason not to hit the snooze button:joyfull: You can do whatever you set your mind to.
