Magical is a perfect template for firework shows, in my books. Its entire soundtrack is derived from classic Disney pictures, the music is mostly instrumental, the transitions between segments is smooth, the theme is good, the lack of projections keeps the show from being too busy, and of course the Dumbo segment is absolutely flawless. It's a wonderful show. Simple, sure, but still wonderful.I watched a video of Magical last night because I forgot bits and pieces of the show. Now that we have projections, the show comes off as very basic at times, but it’s still amazing. I miss it.
With that being said, I think Wondrous Journeys is the best Disneyland firework show since RDCT. Still waiting to see it in person for final judgement, but that’s where my opinion is heading.
I can understand why some people may really like Wondrous Journeys, but it unfortunately does not appeal to my sensibilities at all.
Side note, but after watching a recording of Magical, I was reminded how much I prefer the pre-60th color scheme for the castle. The royal blue tiling has grown on me, but I do miss the old aesthetic for Sleeping Beauty Castle.
