News Wondrous Journeys firework show coming to Disneyland

I watched a video of Magical last night because I forgot bits and pieces of the show. Now that we have projections, the show comes off as very basic at times, but it’s still amazing. I miss it.

With that being said, I think Wondrous Journeys is the best Disneyland firework show since RDCT. Still waiting to see it in person for final judgement, but that’s where my opinion is heading.
Magical is a perfect template for firework shows, in my books. Its entire soundtrack is derived from classic Disney pictures, the music is mostly instrumental, the transitions between segments is smooth, the theme is good, the lack of projections keeps the show from being too busy, and of course the Dumbo segment is absolutely flawless. It's a wonderful show. Simple, sure, but still wonderful.

I can understand why some people may really like Wondrous Journeys, but it unfortunately does not appeal to my sensibilities at all.

Side note, but after watching a recording of Magical, I was reminded how much I prefer the pre-60th color scheme for the castle. The royal blue tiling has grown on me, but I do miss the old aesthetic for Sleeping Beauty Castle.

I agree. Magical, as a basis, is pretty perfect. I’d say for a general firework show, it uses the right formula. Maybe the anniversary firework shows should be separated from the general ones.

What impresses me about WJ is that they were able to pull off referencing literally ever WDAS film without it coming off as a clip show. Additionally, the song doesn’t sound like a typical firework show song, which is welcoming.

Agreed about the castle

I still can't find a clip or image of Disney's upcoming Wish! Was that a false promise or am I not looking clearly?

Interesting take… Thoughts?

I mean, I understand the choice with the vibe of the show, and focusing on the protagonists and their struggles, versus the outside forces that work against them.

At the same time, Disneyland firework shows don’t normally get a villain segment… so that would have been fun (in the vein of Wishes or Happily Ever After).

So I’m unsure if it’s refreshing for Disneyland really?

Great point, I can’t think of a general Disneyland firework show that has a villains segment. Maybe the Twitter user is used to WDW?
I think it's astute. I haven't commented on this show until now (absolutely love it!) and I think this take goes straight to the heart of the production.
I agree! And this understanding of the show does align with what Disney and Jordan Peterson say about the show:

There's a villains segment during Happily Ever After and (I'm fairly certain there was one during) Wishes. Disney Dreams in Paris had a villain segment that actually reused some of the DL Fantasmic audio.

It actually works pretty well in all those shows I think, but it's certainly not a prerequisite.

I do miss great Disney villains in the films though!
