Thanks for sharing! It’s literally impossible to catch all the references if you’re watching the show right in front of the castle. Small world provides a large enough canvas to be able to see everything, but then you miss the full scale of the fireworks.

Not all the references are on the castle either. I thank basically what's on Small World is broken up across the castle and Main Street.

Okay thanks to the help of TikTok, the vocalist for Belle is made obvious, and I CANNOT BELIEVE I MISSED IT.

The voice of Belle is one of my favourite vocalists, and broadway stars, the incomparable Shoshana Bean. If you know her voice, it's unmistakable.

Someone take my gay card away from me, I hath failed.
I will see to it at the next Meeting.

I was just about to post this! Just got it on my FYP and was gobsmacked I didn’t realize it before!

The comments are also saying EJ Cardona of Voctave may have voiced Hercules in this quartet; need to go back and listen to compare though.

That’s debatable. I’m a pretty big fan of his work. Not sure what lousy shows he’s done.

2017 Fantasmic at Disneyland while technically impressive, is a far weaker show than what came before. Most versions of World of Color, Light Magic (as an art director- and the art direction for that show was certainly not great), Halloween Screams, Disney's Luminaria at DCA (that only lasted one season!), and Mickey's Mix Magic.

Each of these have their fans- but I'd make the argument that none live up to their potential. Except for Mickey's Mix Magic, which is just trash and not at all fit for Walt Disney's Disneyland.

Wouldn’t that be the Davison “formula” that people don’t like?

A villains segment, and good triumphing over evil is not a Davison formula and has nothing to do with any of the complaints I've ever heard about Davison's productions.

In fact, good triumphing evil and a solid villains segment is one of the reasons why Fantasmic is so much better than World of Color- instead of feeling like a medley of Disney movies the show was able to take on it's own identity and feel that much more 'real'.

Typically complaints around Davison's stuff revolve around his continuous use of the same properties, recycling scenes from different shows, the 'clip show' of just projecting scenes from a film instead of using new audio and visuals.

I think they should have included a segment for the villains, and good triumphs over evil.

I wonder if there's a good way to do this in a fireworks show. The medium isn't conducive to a linear story, which would be needed in order for good to triumph over evil. But then, Fantasmic is playing in the Rivers and no spectacular does it better.

Fireworks shows are only effective if they're able to evoke an emotion from the crowd, and certainly should not try to tell a story- In this case, the goal is to tap into the audience's nostalgia of watching Disney films. I mean how many Americans were born and raised on Walt Disney Animation? Basically everyone in the last 100 years except those born in the 2000's when Pixar was the superior studio, but even then Disney was able to incorporate that studio into their brand seamlessly (not that it's relevant to this fireworks show).

There’s lots of well known Disney Villains in the 100 years. Pete, The Evil Queen, Stromboli, Chernabog, Headless Horseman, Lady Tremaine, Queen of Hearts, Captain Hook, Maleficent, Cruella, Mad Madam Mim, Shere Khan, Prince John, Horned King, Ratigan, Skyes, Ursula, Gaston, Jafar, Scar, Shan-Yu, Ratcliffe, Hades, Frollo, Clayton, Yzma, Dr. Facilier, Gothel, King Candy, Hans, Komatoa, etc.

Tho, I prefer a more traditional a capella rendition...

Disneyland wrongly played much-hated Mickey's Mix Magic for Sweethearts Nite guests as the special fireworks cancelled due to high winds. Why they not just presented the encore performance of Wondrous Journeys with projections for these guests?

I don’t think I can say this enough, but it truly is surreal and even weird seeing so many rare Disney characters and movies in a big production like this. Even the score from The Lion King that’s used in the show is very strange, to me, at least.

On another note, who do you think they’ll send flying through the sky in the next firework show?
I'd imagine ariel for a little mermaid sequence. Just imagine her swimming back and forth behind the castle as if she's underwater.

Christopher Lennertz (music arranger for Wondrous Journeys) tweeted the complete list of featured soloists in the show, including the previously mentioned Shoshana Bean (Sho-Bean as Belle apparently!), Rachel Potter (not singing as Moana though, as Christopher tagged Auli'i in the tweet), and EJ Cardona:

If someone could find what section Tony Winner™️ Lena Hall is singing in, I'd be grateful. My hunch is that she's the lead female singer on the "Immortals" track, but I could be wrong.

Surprised they didn't get Eden Espinosa as a soloist, even for WoC: One.

Yes! This Attractions magazine article says Lena Hall performed "Immortals." In fact, between the article and Christopher's tweet we can piece together I think a good chunk of the new performers:
  • "It's Wondrous" - Devan Garcia & Rudi
  • "When You Wish Upon A Star" - Rachel Potter & ?
  • "Belle" (reprise) - Shoshanna Bean
  • "Go the Distance" - EJ Cardona
  • "How Far I'll Go" - Auli'i Cravalho
  • "Out There" - Trevor Dion Nicholas
  • "Almost There" - Tank & Ty Taylor
  • "Immortals" - Lena Hall
  • "Dos Oroguitas" - JP Castillo
  • "It's Wondrous" (walkout version) - Lawrence

I watched a video of Magical last night because I forgot bits and pieces of the show. Now that we have projections, the show comes off as very basic at times, but it’s still amazing. I miss it.

With that being said, I think Wondrous Journeys is the best Disneyland firework show since RDCT. Still waiting to see it in person for final judgement, but that’s where my opinion is heading.
