Aww, how sad. Seeing things being demolished and taken down at Disney in plain view of everyone always makes me feel bad..especially since I never went inside the pavillion. :(

You think that's bad then you should see what they are doing to the wand!

Well, we all hate the wand. The last time I saw Epcot in it's former glory was when I was six years old, so..the wand's an exception.
Not everyone hated the wand. Likewise, not everyone liked WoL. There were many of us who saw it as Richard Simmon's Stuck-in-the-80s Hellhole. :)

disney can promote the daylight of attractions and they can also kill attractions. in the case of wonders, they killed it cause metlife didnt agree with the terms disney wanted in sponsorship so they cut loose. its sad they are taking the DNA thing down, they just recently went though and painted it like 2 years ago. i kno 2 years dont seem recent but in disney time it is, lol...

WE don't all hate the wand. I like it and I am sad to see it go. Even if I am in the minority. LOL.

I'm with you girl. I liked it but I'm ready for a change. I just hope that it's all gone before I get there next month. I would hate to have pictures of parts of the wand next to SSE.

It does make me sad that they seem to be closing this pavillion down--I always liked Cranium Command. But, I would rather see them do something with the space and not just let it sit there empty.

Over the last few years, the party line was that they only opened it during really crowded times of the year. It was never open when I was there, even though I was there in June and over Spring Break...are there more crowded times than summer and Spring Break?

Is it the 80's as a decade that bothers you or the pavillion's focus on body and health?

Anyway, I think that it's sad to see another empty pavillion ... is Oydessy pavillion even still there?

I was thinking about the closure of this pavilion and it hit me:

The sad thing about this situation is that this pavilion would probably be refurbished and opened again if there was a Pixar character who promoted "Life & Health". The Living Seas was going downhill, so Disney added Nemo. Wonders went downhill and Disney did nothing.

(I'm not trying to turn this into a Pixar-hate party. This is just a thought I had.)

I hadn't looked at it like that ... IMHO you have a really good point. :)

Nah, it's really not about Pixar. If Nemo hadn't come along, it would have been Ariel over at the Seas, but it just happened that Nemo came along and was a smash hit just in time. Disney hasn't had a big hit animated character since The Lion King outside of Pixar, so that's why you see so much Pixar in the parks lately. When Disney does have a hit character (e.g. Jack Sparrow), you see him in the parks, too. Once they get some non-Pixar hit animated characters, you'll see attractions for them.

Epcot is changing, of course. It used to be nearly character-free. But the "educational Epcot" wasn't connecting with a lot of guests, and pavilions like TLS and WoL were feeling outdated. Disney responded by bringing in characters and thrills and de-emphasizing the education side of things. You can love it or hate it, but it's really not about Pixar at all.

am I the only person who thought the signage (and even color scheme on the helix) at WoL was really dated? Like, "HELP! We're stuck in 1996!" (Yes, signage for Ellen's Energy Adventure is equally as bad.)

The building actually looks a bit more dignified without the signage, just like SSE without the Wand...

WoL was neat, but honestly I was never emotionally attached to it like I was with Horizons. It was kind of like a local science museum plussed up a bit. It wasn't the huge, all-encompassing spectacle like other earlier Epcot attractions.

on another note: keep in mind how powerful and important sponsorships are for Epcot pavilions, more than any other park: one should be concerned about other sponsor-less pavilions (UoE, I'm talking to you...) These things tend to go in cycles though: don't think for a minute that Disney has "killed" the idea of a health pavilion; like every other great idea they've merely just temporarily shelved it until the right set of circumstances comes along again.

Hmmmm,, wonder if they have enough material between the wand and the DNA symbol to rebuild Horizons.
Perhaps if they take down that Sorcerers hat and the tombstones in front of SSE, there might be enough ..........:)

I'll take 1996 over 1986 any day of the week.

And you don't think your own age has ANYTHING to do with that? We can't help but have our own personal biases when it comes to what we like or don't like and usually what we first experienced is going to be our favorite. There's nothing wrong with that, you SHOULD enjoy something from the 90's that you can remember more vividly than looking at something from a previous decade through time colored glasses. I'm guilty as charged because I would take a 1980's EPCOT over what is currently there any day. Doesn't mean it isn't still my favorite park (which it is) and it doesn't mean I am not a huge fan of things like Test Track and Mission Space (which I am).

Personally, I felt the wand was the most dated looking thing at any Disney park. The star and the font looked like a 1960's/1970's nightmare to me. I am not a big fan of the tombstones out front, but at least they look somewhat futuristic and don't completely clash with the rest of the area.

As far as WoL goes, I'll certainly miss the place. I wish we could get a complete upgrade to the pavilion instead of it just sitting there, but that's how it goes. It is very late 80's and early 90's-ish, but that is one of the MANY reasons I fell in love with the place again last year when I was able to go in and enjoy for the last time. It really took me back to my childhood and I gained a whole new appreciation for things like The Making of Me and Cranium Command and I still say Body Wars is the most thrilling attraction in Epcot. Sure it's time for a change, but hopefully we will actually get a change and not another Odyssey.

Thank goodness its about time they got rid of that worthless pavilion now do something better with it than have an 80s leftover attraction take up space
