just wondering what you were insinuating with the comment about safety.

The rollercoaster in SM is old. And as such, it requires a regular maintenance cycle of constantly welding to stop cracking.

Sounds dangerous, right? Well, that's the claim some make. They say this constant need to weld is a sign that the coaster is about to have a spectacular fail and kill people. As a side effect of the constantly welding, the ride isn't as smooth as it could be. So, every time you ride it and feel the shaking, you're feeling your probably immediate death.

However, others claim that every coaster that old has a regular maintenance of welding. Steel cracks under repeated stress. It's what steel does. It is not self-healing. It needs welding. It's what happens to all coasters. The fact that they're conducting such rigorous maintenance and welding whenever they find a crack is actually a sign of its safety. Though, even these people will say it's really time for a new coaster. Welding can't go on forever as a fix. Eventually all coasters need new tracks, or, a complete rebuild.

Further to this, it's worth mentioning again the Space Mountain track is tubular. This means it can hold air inside that's different to that in the show building. A crack would mean a change of air in the tube and trigger an alarm.

I've ridden both. Don't mind a ride being a little rough, was just wondering what you were insinuating with the comment about safety.
I would never accuse SM of being unsafe, and I continue to ride it, but every ride system has a theoretical end of life. That's why Universal just spent millions tearing down Hulk only to rebuild it (in terms of track) in what appears to be an exact duplicate layout. Hulk opened in 1999. SM opened in 1975. There are many reasons that is not a perfect analogy (SM is indoors, Hulk copes with storms, etc,) but I think that sums up why Martin and others were rather appalled when the full "gut and replace" rehab was canceled. A better analogy: DL did get a gut and replace rehab and its very similar ride track was 2 years younger. If I had to pick a more inherently dangerous coaster it would be Primeval Whirl, but I would certainly advocate Disney spend the dollars and downtime on Space. Who knows? They could use the opportunity to wow us with some show upgrades.

How are they going to deal with over crowding on Main Street with this show? That area is already way beyond packed every night with wishes, and now all the people who watch the fireworks in fantasyland and Tomorrowland will have to be in Main Street too unless they want to miss out on half the show (the projections).

Is there any plan in place for this?

I was at Shanghai Disneyland last week, and it seems to me that it's a pretty sure bet that the replacement for Wishes will be similar in style to their night-time show.

As has been discussed as likely for the new MK show... It was HEAVY on projections and light on pyro (compared to Wishes).

Myself and my family were not fans.

It felt like it had long "dead spots" in the show... And that wasn't because of whatever IP they were showing... It just wasn't that exciting a format of a show, we didn't think.

There were a few good segments. But when we travel to the other side of the planet to see everything in Shanghai for a first time (and who knows if and when we will ever get back) and the kids don't care to watch it on our second or third nights at the park?? That's not a ringing endorsement. And that's from an (obviously) Disney Parks obsessed family.

A side note... The projections on the SDL castle just weren't that impressive. I'm not sure if it's because of all the little nooks and crannies and huge depth changes on that massive castle... But the projections never really looked like they were on a flat surface, like they're able to give the illusion of at WDW. And I saw it from a few different vantage points. It was weird.

Also... A pet peeve of mine:

I don't like when the night time castle shows focus on Disney movies and aren't parks-related. I think the shows should be a celebration of where you are, on vacation (for non-locals), and the memories you've been making. Not snippets of Disney labeled movies that at times have absolutely no presence in the parks you're at.

IMO, "Remember" at Disneyland was perfection. Absolute perfection.

SDL felt like a book report or a trailer.

That's why Rivers of Light is so appealing to me. It's a show firmly rooted in the ideas of Animal Kingdom and, according to Rohde, is meant to offer guests the opportunity to reflect on their day at the park.

its absolute chaos as it is and an accident waiting to happen, after going through it last month I said never again would I see any fireworks in person, except at Epcot. They didn't even bother to use and direct people through the backstage overflow behind Main Street, and they built that why again?

I live in CA, and let me tell you trying to get a good spot to see "Disneyland Forever" was a nightmare. Since the projections were on Main Street as well as the castle, you had lots of people trying to stay back while the cast members were trying to move them forward between the buildings and the castle, which offered not as good as an experience, IMO.

Thankfully HEA is projections on JUST the castle, which will force everyone into the hub. It'll still be a nightmare, but I think the Cast Members will just have to do more crowd control. In Disneyland the crowd control is insane: "lanes" of people moving and being stopped when places get packed (like Adventureland at Christmastime, UGH.)

That said, I'm super excited for this. I LOOOVED Disneyland Forever, and I'm sure this'll be amazing.

The solution right now is too watch from Fantasyland. Way less crowded and a better view (imo). That won't help once projections are added though
