"Winter Dreams" - A new World of Color Holiday Show!

I saw the show last night and was very impressed. There are little things that do not show up on the videos and the scope of the show can only be experienced in person. I can't wait to see how the added technology is incorporated into the regular show.

The snow effect was difficult to spot. At least last night they were only being launched from the very back of the viewing area. I only saw them after the show as the wind was blowing them away the viewing area. It would be better if they put the machines on the other side of the lagoon so they could be seen by the audience.

I love World Of Color but this version is very bad ! This is just promotion for Frozen, this is just the passage "Let It Go" who is successful ! In the version of Paris, pyrotechnics is really pretty! It is shorter but it's enough !

There's been promotion for Frozen?

I'll be seeing the show Friday night. Can't wait!
Enjoy!

Due to incredibly last-minute business travel (and getting to make my own travel arrangements), I am blessed to be able to see the show AGAIN tonight! (I'm from the Midwest!)

(for the record and note to all you savvy business travel planners: I planned my own travel and BECAUSE I chose to arrive a day early - and give myself opportunity to visit DLR for a day - I saved my company between $300-$600 in airfare! Seems reasonable enough to me to get to take a day to relax at The Happiest Place on Earth!)

I love WoC, it's my baby. And I've been waiting for them to do a Christmas version ever since the show debuted in 2010. So naturally my expectations were very high for Winter Dreams. I saw it for the first time tonight after holding off on watching any video clips, and was disappointed. I thought the virtual choir was weird, though they sounded beautiful. The first part of the show was good but it went downhill fast at the Nutcracker scene. That scene lasted far too long. Olaf singing about summer seemed very out of place in a Christmas show. The sing along was dumb and the snow effect failed for me. I was expecting a lot of snowflakes, but there wasn't enough and they took off and flew behind the Mermaid building pretty quickly. It's not an effect that can be enjoyed by the entire crowd.

I loved the classic cartoons in the beginning. Those cartoons take me back to my childhood. Elsa's song was great, and the Christmas around the world was a nice segment. It seemed like there was a lot of fountain usage in the first half and it was beautiful. They didn't rely on the back 3 screens as much which was nice.

I'm usually not a very nit picky person (though I guess I'm being extremely nit picky with this show lol), but this just didn't do it for me. :(

@Nicole220 , did you just hack into my brain waves and type the results on a discussion forum?! :D
I agree with every last letter you wrote, including the part about loving WoC like a baby! (I swear that sometimes on a rough day I can listen to the audio and it will help me escape from life and into a place of happiness and joy!)

I'm glad you mentioned the choir too. I was thinking it all along but didn't want to criticize the beautiful voices! It's great, but what on Earth does it have to do with the show? (I really cringe at the thought that the "Glow" title is linked to an attempt to pimp the "Glow with the show" Ears...)

Anyhow, each element in and of itself is pretty good, but it just doesn't tell a story the way that the standard show does. (and that darn nutcracker segment does drag).

Thanks for posting. No disrespect to the show or creator (I have a feeling there were some distinct promotional intentions with the show that were likely "strongly encouraged" by the executives...), but it just doesn't live up to the original for me.

That's interesting - I find World of Color to be utterly storyless. It had a storyline that executives forced the creative team to cut, so it's essentially a lovely clip show that goes on a bit too long for my taste (can't wait until that Brave segment gets the axe). Winter Dreams has a host that ties each segment together providing segues the original show doesn't have - I find it has a much stronger "story", which is being generous.

The choir segment was pushed out to the "pre-show" at the last minute, again by executive decree. It was originally in the flow of the show to provide a softer moment, and now it's kind of a weird pre-show that doesn't seem to have much to do with anything.

Anyway, differing opinions are the lifeblood of the internet. Now, let's insult each other for unrelated reasons because we disagree, and then have a dramatic and public makeup with custom memes. ;)

While many will say that the Winter adaptation is not as great as the Normal season run I will state one thing in favor of the Winter show. If you watch how the water is coordinated it seems that the production crew is more competent with the system are willing to try new things in their design.

Totally agree! As much as I love the original show, it's obvious that they know how to work the system a lot better now. The programming is more precise and all the effects are spot on. With the original show they had to follow the outline that had been created prior to working on the actual lagoon. With this new show, they came with the experience of knowing what the tech is actually capable of -- it seems like they had more freedom to play.

For those who are interested, here's an interview with Jason Badger after the premiere of Winter Dreams. If you wanted to know just who is the actual designer of the dazzling lights and fountains.. it's him!

Yeah, there is no storyline in WoC, which is why some people prefer Fantasmic!. It's a montage, but that doesn't mean it isn't great. WoC is indeed great, but no, there's no story.
That was my only criticism of it. Also why I didn't like Magical as well as Wishes.

Magical does have a storyline, in a sense the way Wishes does.

I have to save final judgement until I see the show with my own eyes, but from watching YouTube videos, I THINK I like Magical more than Wishes, and I blame that on Remember spoiling me.

I like Wishes better. Although I'm HOPING that by the time you go both Epcot and Magic Kingdom will have gotten new fireworks shows. Wishes has been around for a decade now, and Illuminations has been around for even longer. We've gotten fireworks specials before, but nothing permanent. The Summer Nightstick fireworks ere great. Both have gotten upgrades, but still. Magical doesn't have quite the story that Wishes does. Maybe that's because I've seen Wishes far too many times.

I can't say I minded Dumbo being in Magical though... except it took me watching it three times before I saw him!

And I bet it's because I've seen Magical many times. Remember tops that as well anyway. I doubt I'll be able to ever see Wishes live, but I don't know.

Like I said, I'm really hoping that when you're finally able to go, they'll be different. Although they're great and it would be great for you to see them live, those of us who have ben watching them for 10 years are ready for something new.

I guess maybe my meaning of "story" is a little obscure...more of a combination of literal and figurative "colors" with the animation and colorful characters portrayed throughout. It introduces the sets one by one and then has a culmination of audio-visual colorful experience at the end to wrap it all up. Despite the fact that Winter Dreams does indeed have a narrator that interjects various comments and antics between segments, I just don't feel that his contribution necessarily ties the individual segments of the show together into something cohesive.

As for insults...I'll save those for the Wand/Hat/Monorail Expansion threads! ;)

BTW, has anyone listened to the Soundtrack version of "Let It Go"? I imagined that it would be nearly the same as what is in WoC: Winter Dreams, but it is actually a much slower cadence and has much less musical accompaniment and fanfare.
Honestly speaking, I like the version in the show much better because of the energy and the music. (I guess the one in the show combines the best of the "mainstream" Demi Lavato version with the voice and expression of Idina Menzel.)
