Win or Lose (Pixar Disney+ series)

I think I made clear that I’m not watching it because doing so would leave a bad taste in my mouth, not because I’m boycotting it as such.

I don’t watch (or not watch) things to “virtue signal”, whatever you mean by that term. My viewing decisions are guided by a much simpler and rather selfish criterion: enjoyment.

If'n y'alls wont be watching this... why are you commenting in this thread? I believe the popular thought 'round this forum is if you have no intent to watch the film... you have no place in the thread. You're here to either virtue signal about being high and mighty for NOT watching it, trolling, or both.

Go peacock somewhere else.
It's rather ironic that you're accusing others of trolling when you're the one here stirring the pot and casting aspersions without any provocation.

As I said, I would like to watch this show and may well end up doing so. Now, however, is not the right time for me. There's no "peacocking" in any of what I've said, just a candid acknowledgement of my own ambivalence.

I am commenting here as a Disney and Pixar fan who cares deeply about the themes the show was originally going to address. What is your contribution to this thread?

Just so everyone is a bit more clear, with how the show seems to be structured (each characters personal journey and I assume an episode after that they all seem to be ending on, the big game)… it’s more like a slice of the pie was taken out. Almost indiscernibly so, since we are just being served slices of pie so far.

The themes, structure, etc are all in tact. We’ll just never get one characters journey. I don’t even know who that character is so far.

I’m more left with “this is a shame” rather than feeling like the production is materially different. It’s in fact very similar to what I was presented in 2023.

I acknowledge everyone is free to choose to approach engaging or not engaging. But I wish this never happened, because it is still delightful.

I meant it more rhetorically than asking who it was, but this character does get some screen time and dialogue in episode one. I assume their episode was cut looking at the promotional material.

Episode one was top left yellow and then blue.

From what I can tell, the episode focusing on the character hasn’t been cut; it’s the references to her trans identity that have been removed.

For anyone interested, this is how the character was conceived in 2021:

It’s amazing what difference a few years can make.

Not only did I not know who the character was, she’s just presented as a girl. I guess that’s less morally terrible than reverting the character to male, at least.

Every character has a hook that they are anxious about (first one was living up to dad, who is also the coach, who is also basically Ted Lasso, so super accepting to the audience… but the character is absolutely terrible at baseball). The second is the umpire who has shut himself off to criticisms (because he is always making tough calls, is also the kids teacher, but has also shut himself off to love in the process). Character one manifests a talking sweat blob and character two is wearing his armor all the time.

So I’m curious, because I think the original story wouldn’t have been a minor blink and you miss it thing. But actually would have been proper representation.

Oh yeah! I think I remember reading that. I wonder if the storyline would have remained the same if the show had been released in 2023 like originally planned. Or if Lightyear and Strange World hadn’t bombed. Or if Disney hadn’t been in the crosshairs of some politicians. Or if…

Like you said, a few years can make a big difference.

This show is so mundane and ordinary. I miss the times when Disney and Pixar used to have exciting ideas like seeing the world from the point of view of a toy or a mouse wanting to be a chef. There's no sense of adventure or wonder anymore. Everything is just plain and boring.
