Will they walk away with my camera?

At least 5 times out of every trip to Disney a perfect stranger will ask me to take a picture of them in front of the castle or something like that. Now don't get me wrong I do not mind doing this at all, actually I get a kick out of seeing the people happy but I always wonder why are they trusting a perfect stranger with thier expensive camera?

Because there are enough "good samaritans" at WDW that, if you screamed "stop that man, he has my camera" the thief would get tackled a dozen times over. If he's lucky, Disney security will get to him before a guest to the parks upset that someone is ruining the Disney magic goes all Rambo on his keister.

Maybe they are high on something. Or they think that someone that comes to WDW is nice person and the won't take the camera.

There is only one place to exit most WDW parks (2 at EPCOT), cast members and security are everywhere and the radio is faster than the fastest thief, maybe? That, plus, who is going to take off with your camera right there in front of Mickey and everybody?

Hmm, I think you're missing perfect opportunities to get 5 free cameras.

I heard that if someone steals your camera while at WDW, security will take their children and put them in IASW for eternity. Honest... :lookaroun

I think you'd be safe if you do a little investigation first. For example, you're probably going to get your camera back if you go to an adult in a family that's there with their kids.

9 times out of 10, you're going to be fine. There's always a possiblity that something could happen, so you don't want to hand your camera over to just anybody.

If all else fails, ask a CM or a Photopass person to take your picture. You won't have a problem there, and Photopass people know how to use a camera (at least, I hope they do!)

We used to bring a 2nd camera-- disposable-- just for that purpose. Now that we use digital, I'm not sure what we'd do. I think I've become too spoiled to wait for film to develop. But I guess I have a long time to think about it

Well if I ever need someone to take my pictures I always ask a CM to do it, there is usually one around whenever I need my picture taken and they are usually more than happy to do it. I generally never ask other guests but when I was carrying around my big SLR people used to ask me all the time to take their picture like I was some sort of real photographer.

Oh well, its always good to be freindly and I find that I am more freindly when in the world then other places and most people are too.

It would never occur to me that someone would take my camera if I asked them to take a family photo. Nor would it occur to me to take someone elses camera. Especially at WDW where there are so many families. I cant imagine asking a man/woman with a family to take our photo and then have them abandon their family to run away with our camera.

My boyfriend and I have no kids, so when we go we're always alone. We always rely on strangers to take our photos. Most of the time, people will come and up and offer to take our pic for us, which is really nice. A lot of times I also will look for another lone couple, and ask if they want their picture taken, and if they would mind taking ours. The best was when we were eating at Biergarten at a table of older couples, and they were so nice and said "You guys need some pictures taken here!" and they pretty much gave us an impromptu photo shoot. I don't worry about them taking it because my boyfriend is huge and a cop and someone would be pretty gutsy to run off with my camera with him standing there (that's in addition to it's Disney World and everyone is in love with life while they're there).

Few people are as Machiavellian as I, but I wouldn't be overly worried about having someone snap a shot. Granted, I am extremely fast and hold advanced belts in 3 martial arts, so it'd be a bad move.

But that aside, you call out "Stop that guy's got my camera" and he's going to be facing 3 stroller moms, 2 dads on vacations, 20 CMs and at least a couple of hyperactive teens...not likely to get very far.

There are great stories in the Mouse Tales books about how far people get after commiting crimes...they don't. We're talking about a place that's as controlled as a Las Vegas casino.

That's no guarantee, but professionals will stick to picking pockets as opposed to a grab & dash - too many cameras for evidence and identification.

I've never asked someone to take a picture for us, but people are always offering...Must be I have a cool camera?? That was especially true on our honeymoon because people would see my DH taking a picture of just me and they would offer....So nice :)
I have taken pictures for others if they ask or sometimes I ask them- just a nice thing to do so that everyone can be in the picture (you have to have at least one "full family" photo right??)

I believe the smart ones choose...

...people like me who are too old and overweight to run not to mention being constantly surrounded by my four children asking for money :hammer: Taking the picture is kind of a respite for me :)

We have had other guests take our picture before but a lot of times the pics come out kinda bad so I got a gorilla pod check them out here ---> http://www.joby.com/ Been useing it around the house and stuff and it really works great. I guess I still have to worry about somebody snatching it but I don't really think that will happen.

When I was a CM for the College Program I recall wandering through the parks on my day off and always asking to take photos for people. It tends to be such a habit when you're working that you start doing it when you're being a Guest! Freaked a lot of people out, I think...but they're usually fine once I tell them I'm a CM.

But most of the responses in this thread are right...security at Disney is pretty top-notch. I wouldn't worry about someone just running off with it.
