Will Harry Potter 2.0 be open by late 2014?

Hi,

We're currently planning on going back to Orlando in November/December 2014 to see HP2.0, Antartica and FLE.

I know that Antartica is opening 2013, FLE should be finished by 2014, but will HP2.0 be finished by Nov/Dec 2014, or may it be delayed until 2015?

My guess is that it would be (although I obviously have no actual idea). With Avatar coming in 2015/16 you would think that Universal would want some time where they are the only big new attraction in the area.

It's just that I remember for HP1.0 they wanted to get it open by December 2009 (Dec 09-Jun 10 were the dates given), but it didn't open till June 2010 - so if they want it open by December 2014, might it slip to June 2015?

Good point that it hasn't even been announced yet. I was reminded of that fact Sunday night when a waitress at the Hard Rock Hotel told me there were two rumors on what was going to be done with the Jaws area of the park. When she told me the rumors, one of the two had nothing to do with Harry Potter. So. . .

Opening day is a long way off. And what is Universal's track record with openings? My perception is that construction tends to run longer than expected.

It's 2.5 years away. And Potter is going to Jaws. There's no question.

Universal has normal build times. Sure they have set backs here and there, but it's the same as Disney's. They'll hit around their mark. So late 2014/early 2015.

Yes, sorry. My point in recounting the conversation with the local waitress was to illustrate the lack of knowledge about the plans outside these discussion forums. In hindsight, I can see how my post could have suggested that there might be some indecision over what to do with the property but that was not my intent.

As for the normal build times, you are probably right but it sure seemed to take an extra long time to get that rip ride rockit coaster up and going.

And they're still having trouble figuring how to keep it running. They just recently (like within the last 2-3 weeks) went through and did a complete reprogram of the ride system/computers. The ride crew (especially controls) and maintenance base are getting to know each other very well now.

I think so far, they've had more issues than they did before the reprogramming. They were running with two trains either last night or the night before because of some constant issues with both the system and the trains (mainly audio for the trains).

Really? We visit once a year and it seemed like one year it wasn't there the next we were riding it!

They started construction on Rip-Ride-Rocket in May of 2008 and it was supposed to open in Spring of 2009, but due to technical problems it didn't open until August 19, 2009.
