How did we go from Dream Passes to Disney Special Activities ?

Earlier in the Thread said:
They already have this service if you have enough money. Celebs are always being escorted in the exit.

There ya go.. Just a little misunderstanding as to the purpose/role of DSA. Buying a tour guide does not get you into any attractions faster than a knowledgable Disney guest does, being a recognizable celebrity (to the point of it being a safety concern) or actively in the employ of the Disney Company does get you some special perks... The equivelent of a Dream Fastpass (not for sale)

I respectively disagree

I worked at Big Thunder Mountain Railroad during my college program, and every VIP tour guide ALWAYS, ALWAYS, ALWAYS, ALWAYS brought there guests through the ride exit and boarded the train in a matter of a few minutes, as opposed to waiting in the line, even if there guests weren't celebrity's.

Also I can back this up further by saying I never once even saw a tour guide even in the line to begin with. I doubt they did this just at BTMR, so I took it as they did the same at other rides around the park.

All the tour guide has to do is go through the exit, ask for "x" number of seats...and thats it

I could see Disney charging for the fastpasses. Why do some people get angry when someone posts a rumor and asks for references... I mean if someone wants to post untrue things I say let them..

An opinion is a feeling about something that can't be proven or disproven. "Splash Mountain is better than Space Mountain" would be an example.

"Disney is going to start selling Dream Fastpasses" is either objectively true or not true, so it can't be an opinion. Guess or hunch would be more accurate.

Sorry for the thread drift, but that jumped out at me.

I'm not sure where you got such a specific and limited definition of the word "opinion", but it sounds like you just made it up. It is by no means limited to the description you gave for it. What the OP expressed most certainly qualifies as an "opinion". Check out these definitions from dictionary.com:

1. a belief or judgment that rests on grounds insufficient to produce complete certainty. 2. a personal view, attitude, or appraisal. 3. the formal expression of a professional judgment: to ask for a second medical opinion. 4. Law. the formal statement by a judge or court of the reasoning and the principles of law used in reaching a decision of a case. 5. a judgment or estimate of a person or thing with respect to character, merit, etc.: to forfeit someone's good opinion. 6. a favorable estimate; esteem: I haven't much of an opinion of him.

I would contend that outside of the medical definition, which is kind of its own animal, the common usage of the word is limited to statements which are neither true or false objectively.

It's a fine line. Saying "John McCain is best positioned to be elected president" is an opinion. Saying "John McCain will be elected president" is either true or it's not. I'm not sure how a statement can be both fact (or fiction) and opinion. I suppose some leeway could be given to statements about future events, since their veracity (or lack thereof) hasn't yet been established. I still say "guess" more accurately and clearly reflects the nature of such statements than "opinion."

Of course, with all those qualifiers, this could be understood as being simply my opinion on the matter. :animwink:

Let me put it this way:

Merf has his Spaceship Earth...

The Hatfields have the McCoys...

The Republicans have the Democrats...

I have DSA...

Don't forget Al!

OT: Actually, when you say it like that, they all sound like diseases. "I've come down with an extreme case of DSA..."

...Though your next argument may be where I drew the conclusion between those aforementioned things, and diseases. :lookaroun

...Sorry.

Actually, all 6 of the definitions are really their "own animal", which was basically my point. Your statement seemed to imply that there was one definition, and one definition only, for the word "opinion". The dictionary disagrees with you, however, and so do I. Could it be argued that you've simply expressed your opinion and I've simply expressed mine? No. A definition is just that...a definition, not someone's "opinion" of what a word means.

Perhaps an even more appropriate word (as opposed to "hunch" or "guess", neither of which are strictly limited to future events) would be "speculation".

Bottom line: I support the OP's statement that it was just his opinion. :)
