We are regulars at the WL and the construction did not bother us at all in our two most recent stays, the lower crowds make dining and the transportation much more comfortable. I can spend hours in the lobby alone especially with the Christmas decorations up!
Enjoy the time you have there and if you are into pin trading there is a board at a kiosk in the lobby, another at the front desk and a small one on Humphrey the bear inside the mercantile.
Also we always go straight to the mercantile, out front there is a carved totem with Humphrey the bear and above him Donald, Goofy and then Mickey. Rub Humphrey's nose for a little extra magic. It has always worked for us!
Thank you!

The Wilderness Lodge is awesome. WE have stayed twice, and it is now out go to resort. The bunk bed rooms are big and the courtyard ones have a good view of the pool. The ease of access the boats to the MK are a huge bonus and are way faster than the monorail. Or you can take the boats to the contemporary and catch the monorail there. Both are fun. The pool is great (it is in the shade most of the day, so it may be a bit chilly)

I bet you will love it. Enjoy your trip!!!!

For those of you that are WL fans,

I wanted to share that I found furniture for sale from the Wilderness Lodge. They cleared out the wing they are currently converting to DVC and I found the company that bought it.

The company is WREC Liquidators and they are located not in FL but in Somerset KY.
They have all of the room furniture and fixtures. I was just there in person and con confirm they have it and pretty good prices.

If you are looking for them they are on Facebook: look up WREC Liquidators and you can find them and the contact information.

If you need anymore information let me know

Can someone tell me who WL shares bus service with?

We will be heading to Epcot on our checkout day from GF, taking monorail. When leave Epcot we will check in at WL.

Also will be taking a bus from WL to AK the next day. Approximate travel time with this?

I stayed in WL in 2013 so my info could be outdated but at that time WL shared buses with Poly & GF. Sometimes the buses made stops at Fort Wilderness as well but my memory is that it wasn't everytime we rode the bus.

WL shares with Ft. Wilderness from Epcot. It will be dropped off first.
WL will share with either Contemporary or Ft. Wilderness to AK. In both cases, WL is picked up first. Figure 25 minutes to AK.

I was under the impression that the construction won't have an impact on us, and that we won't even easily see it.

Now you have me worried!..even though I can't change either way.lol

Can you tell me what I should expect?

Well, there's no beach access, lots of construction walls up around the DVC villas and the wing being converted to DVC studios. But several of the new cabins have been framed and another buidling is up, so they are making progress.

Here's a picture of the tree in the lobby at Christmas time. And the fireplace will have a fire going. Maybe because it's my home Resort, so I'm a tad partial, but I love WL over GF (and I've also got points at GF) at Christmas time. Walk over to the DVC villas...there's a smaller tree in the lobby, go see Walt's train, and the lobby will have this wonderful warm smell.

Thanks! I am excited about the Christmas decorations. I had wanted to switch to an Epcot resort but nothing was available (only a 1 bedroom club level which is out of my price range lol). I think the move from GF to WL will be a nice change of scenery for the last few nights. Bike rides and fireplaces :) We aren't doing a park on 12/3, hoping to make it to Chip n Dale's campfire, leaving before the movie so we can have a late dinner at Whispering Canyon.

Do you know what time the Carolwood Pacific room is open until? There was a photo of a game of checkers on fb..that looks like a nice way to wind down.

Carolwood Pacific room does not close, it is located to the right of the lobby in the villas building and has no doors. It is kinda like an extension of the lobby. Nice place for a quiet getaway. We went over there this past Thursday. Will post some photos when I get a chance. I have some new construction photos as well.

We did Discovery Cove this past Wednesday, and it is probably one of the best days we have ever had in the Orlando area. And the weather last week was fantastic!
Awesome! I have absolutely no clue how I am going to pack for our stay. I used to freeze in Orlando past October, but now that we're in the Midwest the evenings may not be as much of a shock. I think I will pack our winter coats, hats, boots, gloves, and lots of layers just in case. Unfortunately it is creating quite the negative impact on my luggage capacity.

Quick computer search confirms no doors, just an open archway entrance off the lobby area.

Oh yay!!! Thank you!

Please give me your opinion, do we hang out at WL in the evening, or should we go to the campfire? We have an Ohana breakfast that morning, then heading to Fantasia Gardens for some mini golf, then back to WL for a bike ride to FW. I don't know if going back again for the campfire is necessary, or if we could have a good time just hanging out at WL.

I like hanging out at the lodge, enjoying the pool, exploring the grounds, hanging out in the lobby, hidden Mickey hunt etc...but, I think your son might get a kick out of the campfire unless he thinks he is getting too old (I'm not too old for it!) and too cool to hang out with characters and younger kids. The boat ride over and back is not very long, maybe 10-15 minutes plus wait time, so it might be worth doing.
One thing I notice sometimes is parents trying to cram too much into their youngster's days. We have noticed some very tired looking children being encouraged to do more and more when the kids look wore out. I have never had that actually happen to us as we don't have kids, but I can imagine thinking I needed to cram in as much as possible so they can do a lot while there.
So bottom line is if we had children, I think I would probably go over to the campfire, make some s'mores, maybe enjoy the sing-a-long but not stay for the movie, unless little Ricky is too tired or overstimulated then I would let him decide and if he did not really want to go, then just not go.
That was a long and rambling way to say have fun either way, but don't over do it.

Here are a couple of photo taken the other day inside the Carolwood Pacific room. The first are actual rail cars from Walt's mini railway at his former home in California. In the second pic in the photo in the center of the wall, you can see Walt riding the mini train at home where the rail cars in the other room are from.

Oh, you must have ran into my 5 year last year :(.

I pushed him way past his limits and did end up easing up. I've tried to make this trip more low key. We have 3.5 days that we aren't doing any parks. The .5 we will head over to MK around 8pm for EMH. I've really tried not to schedule any early mornings after a late night, and do think I've been relatively successful in that. Last year we were at MK til midnight, and then had an Ohana breakfast at 7:30am followed by Epcot. I learned from those mistakes!

I do think he would enjoy Chip n Dale.. I can play it by ear..but was trying to figure out if I should schedule an early or late WC dinner. If we do the campfire then we can't fit dinner in before. He's 6 now and this will probably be the last year he would even care about the campfire. On the other hand, a relaxing evening of checkers and hidden mickeys could be the perfect way to end the trip. Ugh, I'll figure it out.
