I like hanging out at the lodge, enjoying the pool, exploring the grounds, hanging out in the lobby, hidden Mickey hunt etc...but, I think your son might get a kick out of the campfire unless he thinks he is getting too old (I'm not too old for it!) and too cool to hang out with characters and younger kids. The boat ride over and back is not very long, maybe 10-15 minutes plus wait time, so it might be worth doing.
One thing I notice sometimes is parents trying to cram too much into their youngster's days. We have noticed some very tired looking children being encouraged to do more and more when the kids look wore out. I have never had that actually happen to us as we don't have kids, but I can imagine thinking I needed to cram in as much as possible so they can do a lot while there.
So bottom line is if we had children, I think I would probably go over to the campfire, make some s'mores, maybe enjoy the sing-a-long but not stay for the movie, unless little Ricky is too tired or overstimulated then I would let him decide and if he did not really want to go, then just not go.
That was a long and rambling way to say have fun either way, but don't over do it.
