Wilderness Lodge DVC additions - Copper Creek Villas & Cabins

That's how they afford to stay at BLT. I think your statement goes back to what the DVC critics site often. The Deluxe DVCs are filled with folks who may not be able to afford to stay at Disney every year if they weren't paying it off via a 10 year mortgage.

And some people really do like to have home cooked meals even on vacation.
Maybe I just misunderstood the criticism all along. Are you saying it's the DVCers, as in the people themselves, that the critics have a problem with? I always saw it as them implying that Disney does things to cheapen the resort experience when there's DVC present.

well, at least that is how I interpret their commentary, since it is closely followed by criticisms of those who buy and the degraded levels of tourist behavior. But maybe I'm hearing a dog whistle when there isn't one.

So it's definitely "bungalows" ala Poly DVC?

...It's so nice for Disney to be spending sooo much attention, time, and effort to build nice rooms only for the folks who have ridiculous amounts of spending money. :greedy: :greedy: :greedy:

Sounds about right to me. Given the choice of pleasing my poor customers or my rich customers, I'm going to opt for the rich customer every single time.

It's not like providing these high-end options in any way diminishes the experience of those with a more modest budget. If anything, it helps everyone. High-end guests will demand high-quality public amenities, dining, and customer service.

Sigh, I'll be there in December to see if they're deforesting or not. If they can do it like tree houses and retain most of the trees, it may not be a horrible addition.

Sounds like they should just shut the place down if all of that is going to be closed.
These closures aren't even close to shutting down 20% of the services at WL. All Disney is saying at this point is that the area from the beach, which includes a tiny playground and firepit along with chairs over through the hidden springs pool, will be walled off and unavailable. I'm sure the nightly movies that are shown on the beach will be moved, most likely to the indoor area in the villas as they do when it's expected to rain. I just got back and while there paid careful attention to the number of folk using the beach knowing that it was going to be gone the next time I'm there. Despite the crowds in the parks, there was almost no one there except at movie/campfire time, and even then the most I ever saw was about 14 people and it was very much dependent on the weather (one time it was only 2 adults with what I considered to be their two older teenage kids. Walking down toward rentals dock each day at various times of day I never saw anyone using the playground (it's very lacking to start with and needs an update.)

Pools undergo refurbishments all the time. This one happens to be a major one to expand the little quiet pool and add features, hopefully while keeping the charm. I'll be upset if they take out the trees that protect the view back to the lodge and villas. So many people these days are asking for "pool view" thinking that's what makes a good view, not understanding the true wonder of the lodge and villas are the trees and the fact that one cannot see past them. This gives the illusion of having a state park right outside your window.

If you're in the villas on the far side of the building and prefer the feature pool to the hidden springs pool, chances are you won't feel the closures at all.

Wonderful. So glad I booked a studio at WL for Princess Half Marathon weekend.

Can hardly wait to see next year's dues bill. :(

We have stayed at AKV, BCV, BWV and VGF and seen cookware, bakeware and kitchen electrics on a number of occasions. There are numerous discussion boards and blogs dedicated to recipe ideas for cooking in the studios. Here are just a few I found with one Google search:

Crock pots and waffle makers are common recommendations.

Odd....I find that all you need is a drill for everything from scrambling eggs to pureeing beef.......

Are you complaining about your home resort receiving upgrades?

I'm excited to see how my home resort looks by 2018. Better than becoming a rundown schnitzel hole.

No, just that I booked for a busy weekend during the construction. As long as Disney doesn't deforest as part of the addition.

I'm sure they won't put anyone in a room facing construction. I'm also sure the treeline will get worse then better. Like the MK Hub project. We will use our points to stay at other villas by and large until this project is done.

They mostly succeed too.

As to people bringing in crock pots and the like, I've never noticed it.

Truth be told, I do a lot of cooking in the room, but only when I have a one bedroom or bigger. We do eat most our breakfasts in the the room even when we have a studio since the microwave, toaster, small fridge, coffee pot, sink is just what the doctor ordered to avoid walking around in an early morning caffeine deprived haze whilst the stomach rumbles. I will admit that the one time I wheeled a keg of Keystone across the lobby and invited everyone (CM and guest alike) to come on down and party in my villa may have been off putting to some (especially since I was wearing a tank top, speedos, and a fedora).

We did bring a crock pot once, but I can't believe anyone noticed me carrying it in. I probably shouldn't have prepared the beef stew in the lobby tbh. A lot of opportunists would grab spoonfuls on their way to catch the MK boat.

Can't believe I actually agree with you about something, anything.

Also, by catering to the very rich, WDW is helping to alleviate the overcrowding problem.

Says you. Last time we were down some family was traipsing through the lobby of BLT with a 30 qt turkey fryer. With the turkey cooking! The marble floor was a slippery mess with all that oil splattering around.

OMG, seriously?

I had a room on ground level looking out at the spot where the new structure will go (I assume/hope it will be a community hall) Tried making heads/tails out of the designs we've seen in relation to the tree line that's there right now and it's possible they may be retaining a good part of what we see as woods, with pathways where the grassy area is now (it has a ditch developing along the length of the building from breaks in the irrigation system and needs to be redone anyway). I'm not happy with the idea of people walking along outside by patio door, but if it's kept to a minimum foot-traffic wise and the paths are done tastefully as winding paths with the trademark animal foot prints that are found throughout, it may be very nice.

To me the Villas are perfection as-is, and it would be impossible to improve upon them but I'm trying to be optimistic here. The big butterfly-attracting bushes along the fence may be gone, and the fence too, that is a shame but I think we could adapt, but loss of the trees would be the worst mistake they could make.
