Oh goodness, you are misguided. I'm sure certain CM's who have been working for the company for periods of time get those benefits, but CPs/part-time (a good majority of front-line CMs) only receive 20% most of the year in park. It goes up to 40% at the holidays.
I'm not misguided at all. You're talking about merchandise discounts, I was talking about hotel rooms.

What the spirit is talking about from what i've gathered is the on-site employee only discount store which sells highly discounted merch, normally out-of-season or stuff that they just don't sell anymore. Yes great finds can be had, but don't kid yourself that this somehow makes up for how terrible CMs get treated.
He is correct about the discounts. Full time get 40% for friends/family and 50% for themselves. It also does bump up to 60% are rare occasions.

Everyone keeps saying that bringing DVC to a resort lessens the experience, and I would like an example of that.

I am a DVC member and, at times, do feel as though bringing DVC lessens the experience.

From the Grand Floridian Lobby Society Orchestra to onsite fairytale weddings, Disney's Grand Floridian Resort & Spa truly evokes feelings of class and sophistication. Moreover, I am sure it is a resort that most aspire to visiting at some point in their lifetime.

To me, it is odd to see guests carrying crock pots, Keurig coffee makers, Swiffer kits, electric skillets and a variety of other kitchen and household items across the lobby toward the villas. I am truly sorry, but I cringe and hope that Grand Floridian CM's do not assume that we are kitchen carrying DVC members.

I thought the VGF had it's own check in desk. So, aside from the fact that I've never seen any guest anywhere carrying kitchen appliances about (perhaps buried in their luggage or storage tote), why in the world would they have them over at the main building?

Don't make the assumption that those staying at the GF are classy folk either. Oddest sight I've ever seen on Disney property were some folks checking into the Grand Floridian (about 2006, well before the villas were built): a large family had their clothes in and hanging out laundry baskets. Reminded me of camping as a kid.

In my experience as a DVC member, Through observation and conversations with other owners, I've come to the belief that owners take pride and care of the rooms and resort grounds more so than those who are simply renting a room.

I've stayed at OKW, Wilderness Lodge, Boardwalk, Animal Kingdom Lodge, Beach Club, and Hilton Head and never seen anything like that. I'm not saying it's never happened, but it doesn't feel like a common occurrence to me.

We have stayed at AKV, BCV, BWV and VGF and seen cookware, bakeware and kitchen electrics on a number of occasions. There are numerous discussion boards and blogs dedicated to recipe ideas for cooking in the studios. Here are just a few I found with one Google search:

Crock pots and waffle makers are common recommendations.

Like I said, I believe that it happens and even believe that it's common. What I have not seen is it bleeding out of those folks' rooms and somehow hurting the overall resort experience.

Hmmm, having stayed DVC 16 times just in the last 6 years, we have never seen anyone doing this. I will not say that it doesn't happen, but it cannot be that common. Of course we don't hang out in the lobby for hours on end either. We have stayed at OKW, SSR, Treehouses, BWV, VGC, and VGF.

Oh, and I would say that the regular guests at some of the resorts lessen the experience far more than a DVC member. We have cringed at what some people think is appropriate garb or behavior at any resort.

Yeah, you're looking at the DISboards. Home of the honey boo boo crowd. I used to visit there, but the place is a mess of entitled idiots who try to game everything that Disney has to offer.

Again, I've never seen kitchen appliances being toted through the resorts. Ever. Can we leave those drama filled cooking discussions to the DIS, please? ;)

My favorite: Lady with a "MILF" t-shirt pulled on stage to participate at the Hoop Dee Doo. Oops.

Wait. There exists a place on the interwebz that makes this place a sanctuary to get away from entitled idiots who try to game everything that Disney has to offer?

They mostly succeed too.

As to people bringing in crock pots and the like, I've never noticed it.

Says you. Last time we were down some family was traipsing through the lobby of BLT with a 30 qt turkey fryer. With the turkey cooking! The marble floor was a slippery mess with all that oil splattering around.

I agree. I always cringe imagining what Housekeeping must deal with. People get all sorts of crazy ideas, especially when they pay crazy prices for vacation...But it's simple, treating others and their things the way you want your stuff and yourself to be treated should be the staring point...but alas....

I bring some kitchen stuff along on trips when I'm staying at a villa for at least a week. But haven't done it when staying in a studio. I bring everything in a big plastic container...I was amazed how well the food smell from kitchens doesn't really "pollute" hallways at Kidani Village. At least I didn't notice it. Haven't stayed at newer DVC rooms, but I would imagine it's the same at Bay Lake...not sure about converted rooms though.

Serious question... if you can afford to stay at Bay Lake Tower, how are you so cheap that you need to crock pot your meals on vacation?

That's how they afford to stay at BLT. I think your statement goes back to what the DVC critics site often. The Deluxe DVCs are filled with folks who may not be able to afford to stay at Disney every year if they weren't paying it off via a 10 year mortgage.

And some people really do like to have home cooked meals even on vacation.
